Orange Is the New Black: The Actress Behind Frieda Has Had a Surprising Career

Warning: Spoiler alert for Orange Is the New Black season five. One of the most interesting supporting characters to emerge on Orange Is the New Black seasons four and five is most definitely Frieda Berlin, played by long time character actress Dale Soules. After being treated to her backstory - young Frieda (played by Mia Sinclair Jenness) had some mad survival skills, even if her dad was a bit much with his survivalist fervor - we find out that present-day Frieda has been hiding a massive bunker in an abandoned pool house underneath the prison, tricked out with all sorts of electronics and tons of nonperishables. Wait, what? That's amazing. And it has definitely piqued fans' interest in both Frieda and the actress who plays her. The 71-year-old thespian grew up in New Jersey in the 1940s and '50s, where she was a bit of an outcast at school

Gwyneth Paltrow Stuns at the Met Gala After Vowing She'd "Never Go Again"

Gwyneth Paltrow Stuns at the Met Gala After Vowing She'd
Gwyneth Paltrow was the epitome of classic beauty at the Met Gala on Monday night. The 44-year-old actress hit the red carpet in a sleek, baby pink gown reminiscent of the Calvin Klein dress she wore during her first-ever appearance at the high-fashion event back in 1995. Although her number was certainly a show-stopper, it was her arrival at the Met Gala period that had people talking. As you might recall, in 2013 Gwyneth infamously told USA Today that she can't stand going to the fashion elite's fete year after year. "I'm never going again," she declared. "It was so un-fun. It was boiling. It was too crowded. I did not enjoy it at all." Not long after her scathing review, she doubled down during an interview with Australian radio show hosts Kyle and Jackie O. "It sucked," she said. "It seems like the it's the best thing in the world, you always think,

Emma Watson’s The Circle Ends The Lame Spring Movie Season -- The Weekend Warrior

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.

Even Emma Watson and Tom Hanks May Not Be Enough to Make a Mark As April Ends

The last weekend of April, and the “slower” spring movie season is ending this weekend, leading directly into the start of the lucrative summer box office next week. As has been the case in past years, the last couple weekends in April see a couple movies hoping to bring in any amount of money before the first big summer blockbuster, and other movies that will steal away their theaters. Last weekend was pretty sad, but hopefully a few of this weekend’s movies will fare better.

The movie that stands the best chance at finding an audience this weekend is the tech industry thriller The Circle

‘The Fate of the Furious’ Will Be Another Week Leading the Box Office

‘The Fate of the Furious’ Will Be Another Week Leading the Box Office
No dramatic tension here: “The Fate of the Furious” (Universal) again will be the top box-office performer in its second weekend, continuing its worldwide push to over $1 billion. Even with a steep fall (likely 55% to 60%), it could end up grossing double what we expect from the five new releases combined.

The next two weeks will see eight new mainstream releases, an unusually high number, and all are standalone, non-franchise entries. That’s rare these days. But unlike “Get Out,” “Hidden Figures,” and “La La Land” — three original movies that grossed $150 million or more at home in the last five months — none of the upcoming titles should do more than minor business.

Every Studio Film Directed By Female Filmmakers Coming Out Over the Next Two Years

Numbers don’t lie. A recent study found female filmmakers remain “grossly underrepresented” when it comes to directing opportunities, and there is no arena in which that is more apparent than Hollywood’s own studio system. As The Wrap recently noted, “of the 149 movies currently slated for a wide release from the six legacy studios over the next three years, only 12 have female directors. That means a whopping 92 percent of the major motion pictures due in theaters through the end of 2019 will be helmed by men.”

That number only includes studio features from the big six, not speciality arms like Fox Searchlight, Sony Pictures Classics, or Focus Features. However, adding those more indie-minded distributors (which are often heavy on festival acquisitions) doesn’t paint a much rosier picture. Over the course of 2017 and 2018, only 24 films directed by women will hit theaters care of a Hollywood studio, and despite continued attention
