‘Glee’ Star Alex Newell ‘Provides’ in Broadway Debut in ‘Once on This Island’ (Exclusive)

‘Glee’ Star Alex Newell ‘Provides’ in Broadway Debut in ‘Once on This Island’ (Exclusive)
About halfway through the Broadway revival of Once on This Island, the god Asaka takes center stage during “Mama Will Provide,” a bombastic number about aiding the story’s heroine, Ti Moune (Hailey Kilgore), a peasant girl who falls for a wealthy boy from the other side of their Antilles island nation, on her journey to find love. Played by Alex Newell, the actor and singer famous for playing the transgender student Unique on Glee, the flamboyant and vibrant god sashays her way around the sand-covered stage, filling the Circle in the Square Theatre with song.

It’s a show-stopping moment that brings audiences to their feet. Suddenly, the energy of the show is lifted by Newell’s rousing Broadway debut, a standout performance among acting and Broadway veterans (Lea Salonga, Greenleaf’s Merle Dandridge and Quentin Earl Darrington) who play the island’s other three gods.

For Newell, the initial performances and subsequent reactions came as a surprise

10 alternate titles for 'Stonewall' based on its bizarre new poster

10 alternate titles for 'Stonewall' based on its bizarre new poster
There's this Roland Emmerich movie "Stonewall" coming out about the riots at New York's Stonewall Inn in 1969 that paved the way for the Lgbt civil rights movement. We discussed earlier how the trailer's cloying feel seems disappointing. Now we have a poster to ogle. I'll be: It does not get better.   Now, now: I have not seen this film. I don't know how successfully it will defy our expectations and present an accurate picture of the uprising. But I did have to check multiple sources to make sure this poster wasn't a fraud. Look at it. Look at those ragtag, smiling kids. Is this a poster for a critical Lgbt moment or Six Flags? It's time to rename this movie. Here are the best ten options. 1. Step Up 4... Civil Rights 2. So You Think You Can Disturb the Peace 3. The Sandlot 3: We Play Ball Like a Girl 4. Xanadu 2:

‘Glee’ May Suck Now, But It Changed the Goddamn World

  • VH1.com
We know it’s hard to believe, but the last episode of Glee ~*eVeR*~ airs tonight. The New Directions have given us an incredible six years of singing, dancing, and awkward teen sexual tension, but it’s time for them to leave the show choir room for good. Admittedly, the most recent seasons of Glee haven’t been that great (this season especially, with its self-referencing jokes and out-of-control fat-shaming). However, we can’t let Ryan Murphy’s inability to craft a third act stop us from honoring Glee. When it was good, it was really fucking good. And, more importantly, it changed culture forever.

From putting gay teens on primetime to introducing us to living Ken doll/actual sex god Darren Criss, Glee wasn’t afraid to go where television had never been before. It broke racial, sexual, and gender boundaries — not to mention it brought the musical back in a big way.

The Voice Top 10 Performance Recap: Truth Detectives

The Voice Top 10 Performance Recap: Truth Detectives
You can’t believe everything you hear on TV — not even (or perhaps especially) when it’s packaged in flannel-shirt wrapping paper, a folksy Oklahoma-accent and a corporate edict to keep the 18-49 demo rating above 3 million.

Which is why I didn’t let myself get angry or dismayed by Blake Shelton’s ridiculous exaggeration during The Voice‘s Top 10 performance episode on Monday: “This is the best live show I have ever seen in seven seasons.”

Dude, seriously?

I don’t believe for a second that the country coach believes such ridiculousness — not after an evening marked by incredibly insipid song selection,

'Glee' star Blake Jenner needs your Kickstarter help for his new movie

  • Pop2it
Calling all Gleeks: a few of the McKinley High New Directions members need your help. "Glee" star (and "The Glee Project" winner) Blake Jenner has written a feature film, and he and his fiance/"Glee" costar Melissa Benoist need some assistance to get it off the ground. The couple has turned to Kickstarter to help fund the movie, and they're more than halfway to their goal.

The campaign, which ends on Wednesday, Dec. 11, has raised more than $62,000 for "Billy Boy," about a troubled 18-year-old high schooler (Jenner) who meets a waitress (Benoist) after a night of partying. She inspires him to change his life and live up to his potential.

The movie is already partially funded, but Jenner and Benoist are seeking $100,000 to help cover the rest of their expenses. They hope to start shooting in late May or early June of 2014 so they can finish the movie in time

‘Glee’: 12 Hottest Guys Ever — Darren Criss, Chord Overstreet & More

Browse our gallery of harmonizing hotties & vote for your favorite (of all time!)

Between last week’s loin cloth-laden performance of “Roar” and next week’s shirtless photo shoot, it seems the fifth season of Glee is shaping up to its most skin-tastic one yet — and we’re definitely not complaining! So the HollywoodLife.com came up with an idea: Let’s rank the glee hotties, past and present, and decide which one we love most. Y’all ready for this?

(Side note: Out of respect for Cory Monteith‘s memory, we omitted Finn from this competition. It didn’t seem right to plaster naughty shirtless pictures of him, then pit him against his fellow gleeks. It should go without saying that Finn will always be our No. 1.)
