Roger Avary Assembles International Cast for His Directorial Comeback ‘Lucky Day’ (Exclusive)
Oscar-winning writer/filmmaker Roger Avary (“Pulp Fiction”) has enlisted a roster of international actors for “Lucky Day,” the pulp action movie which will mark his directorial comeback.

Besides Crispin Glover (“American Gods”), Nina Dobrev (“Flatliners”), Luke Bracey (“Point Break”) and Michael Madsen (“The Hateful Eight”) who have already been announced, “Lucky Day” will also star Clé Bennett (“Jigsaw”), Nadia Fares (“Marseille”), David Hewlett (“The Shape of Water”), Tomer Sisley (“Largo Winch”) and Josie Ho (“Dream Home”).

Lucky Day” is being produced by Samuel Hadida – with whom Avary collaborated on “Killing Zoe,” “Rules of Attractions” and “Silent Hill,” among other films — and Don Carmody. Hadida and Carmody produced together the “Resident Evil” and “Silent Hill” movies.

Penned by Avary, “Lucky Day” follows an ex-con on parole who sets off to reunite with his wife and daughter and gets hunted down by a psychopathic hitman looking to avenge his dead brother.

MipTV: EuropaCorpTV to Remake ‘Doctor Foster,’ Develop U.S.-Based ‘French Detective’ (Exclusive)

Cannes– EuropaCorp TV, the television division of Luc Besson’s powerhouse, is developing several ambitious, high-concept French and U.S. drama series, including the French adaptation of Britain’s “Doctor Foster” and the new U.S. series “The French Detective.”

Doctor Foster” is a hit BBC One thriller drama series about a woman who suspects her husband of having an affair and starts investigating, which propels her into a downward spiral. Helene Duchateau and Baptiste Filleul are co-writing the French adaptation, which is being co-produced by BBC France. TF1 is co-developing the six-episode series. BBC Worldwide will handle international sales.

“The best thing about this show is the fact that’s a true genre-bender. It’s not just another show about adultery; it’s a thriller, a mystery and a drama,” said Thomas Anargyros, the Paris-based president and CEO of EuropaCorp TV. Lucy Lawless and Stuart Townsend are going back in time.

The former “Xena: Warrior Princess” actress and the actor who starred on ABC’s “Betrayal” are joining Wgn America’s “Salem” for Season 2, which began production on Wednesday. Actors Joe Doyle (“Raw”) and Oliver Bell (“How to Make Love Like an Englishman”) are also set to join the cast of the witch drama, set in 17th century Salem, Massachusetts, site of the infamous real-life witch trials that resulted in executions of 20 people.

Syfy Picks Up Season 4 of Lost Girl

Hopefully you’ve been watching this really fun, entertaining supernatural show. If not, now’s the time to get going on that. Lost Girl brings us new supernatural creatures nearly every week as well as longer story arcs, some nice fight scenes, great cast chemistry, and lots of sex between pretty people. What’s not to like?

The series is produced in Canada and airs on Showcase there; Showcase and Syfy both announced the new season pickup yesterday. Unfortunately, while Canada is getting the next season in late 2013, we in the U.S. have to wait until 2014. Hopefully that isn’t set in stone…
