Monster Trucks movie review: what a car-tastrophe

MaryAnn’s quick take… What if “monster trucks” actually meant — wait for it — that there were monsters in the trucks? From an idea by a four-year-old (really), and it shows. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

What if “monster trucks” actually meant — wait for it — that there were monsters in the trucks? Cute monsters, of course. Nice monsters. (Duh! Nobody likes bad monsters.) The kind of monsters that a boy could be friends with and drive around with and do daring deeds with. Wouldn’t that be cool?

A monster in a truck is the least ridiculous thing amidst a story that is often illogical and morally hugely problematic.

Apparently — this will shock you — Monster Trucks was developed from an idea by former Paramount president Adam Goodman’s four-year-old son. Seriously. They didn’t actually

James Corden, One Direction’s Niall Horan Sing Your New Favorite Halloween Anthem (Video)
It’s Friday/let’s do it/Laugh at/James Corden. The CBS “Late Late Show” host and his pal Niall Horan from One Direction parodied Ginuwine’s “Pony” last night with Halloween anthem, “Candy.” “I’m just a Batman/looking for some Pop Rocks./Something with sweet inside/you look like the right Fun Size,” Corden kicks the music video off. And that’s nowhere near the last or best candy pun of the pre-taped sketch. Also Read: James Corden Gets Ewan McGregor to Admit He Pooped His Pants in the '90s (Video) Here’s another good one: “Girl,

19 Rules Everyone Should Follow on Halloween (Yes, That Means You Too)

19 Rules Everyone Should Follow on Halloween (Yes, That Means You Too)
Happy HalloOooOOween. Let’s make sure we’re on the same page here, people.

1. Do not do blackface. No matter how “respectful” you think your costume is. No matter how many black friends you say you have. Learn from Julianne Hough’s mistakes. Do not do blackface.

2. Seriously, do not do blackface. Just don’t do it.

3. Or any other culturally or otherwise insensitive costumes. Don’t be racist. Don’t be misogynistic. If you’re actively trying to piss people off with your costume, you are actually just an A-hole. That’s your costume and yourself.

4. Don’t dress as anyone who was arrested this year. Or someone who was killed. Or involved in any form of tragedy within a 365-day calendar year. There’s no such thing as “too soon” when literally no time has passed.

5. Only dress slutty if it’s creative. Whatever

'Mean Girls': Why the Tina Fey Comedy is Still the Best Modern Teen Movie

  • Moviefone
To celebrate today's 10th anniversary of "Mean Girls," everyone should do what I did last night and rewatch the hilarious high-school flick (it's currently available to stream just about everywhere, but I admit to owning it on DVD). There's a reason we're making a big deal about the biting comedy's decade mark. In the 10 years since "Mean Girls" was released, no other realistic teen comedy (meaning not the ones about magical orphans, sparkling vampires, or dystopian warriors) has come close to becoming as much a cultural touchstone as the Tina Fey-penned, Mark Waters-directed classic.

Waters, who in the ensuing decade has directed or produced seven films, including "500 Days of Summer," "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past," and "Vampire Academy," told Moviefone that he thinks the reason "Mean Girls" still resonates with audiences is that essentially the high-school experience is the same one generation to the next. "The big theme of

Angelenos will have a chance to discover Guillaume Gallienne’s “Me, Myself and Mum” — the film that beat “Blue Is the Warmest Color” to win the French industry’s top prize, the Cesar — and 40 other Gallic pics at this year’s City of Lights, City of Angels festival, unspooling April 21-28 at L.A.’s Directors Guild Theater.

Now in its 18th year, the premiere-powered showcase serves up a mix of new talent and old masters, including the latest from Oscar winner Claude Lelouch (“A Man and a Woman”), whose “We Love You, You Bastard” will open the event. This year’s edition also boasts new features from Francois Ozon (“Young and Beautiful”), Catherine Breillat (“Abuse of Weakness”), Francois Dupeyron (“One of a Kind”), Paris-based Roman Polanski (“Venus in Fur”) and Cedric Klapisch (“Chinese Puzzle”), the subject of an in-depth Focus on a Filmmaker spotlight on April 24.
