One of my most-anticipated from of this years Frightfest offerings is Todd Tucker’s The Terror of Hallow’s Eve which stars Caleb Thomas, Jt Neal, Annie Read, Juliet Landau, Eric Roberts, Doug Jones, Christian Kane, and Sarah Lancaster. Why, you may ask, is a generically titled film, about a wish-granting demon is so high on my must-see list for this years festival? DVD Review: Monster Mutt

Monster Mutt

Stars: Rhiannon Leigh Wryn, Billy Unger, Zack Ward, Brian Stepanek, Juliet Landau | Written by Timothy Dolan | Directed by Todd Tucker

I’ll admit it, ever since I heard that Monster Mutt was being released I’ve been chomping at the bit (pardon the pun) to watch it. Why? Well the film was described to me as a family-friendly 80s throwback featuring a giant dog that was all puppet and no CGI. 80s? No CGI? Sounds like a dream combo to me… And thankfully I wasn’t disappointed.

Monster Mutt tells the story of the Taylor family, more pointedly the two Taylor children Ashley (Wryn) and Zach (Unger) and their beloved, and clever, family pet Max who is kidnapped by the evil Sirus Caldwell (Ward) and subjected to a bizarre experimental injection that sees Max transformed into the eponymous monster mutt. With a little help from scientist Dr. Victor

Soundtrack Round Up

“Welcome to the first of what is a new regular feature where we take a look at the soundtracks from forthcoming movies, along with some of old favourites. First up is Jack Kirby, taking a look at some new soundtracks coming soon… Enjoy!” – Phil

Arnau Bataller’s score to Lovecraft inspired horror sequel La Sombra Prohibida begins as it means to continue; with a furious bombardment of strings, timpani and choral warbling. The music is loud and dynamic with lofty ambitions, presumably to convey the scale of the otherworldly monstrosities in the film. Santiago’s Madness builds more subtly than the Opening Credits, but its crescendo is no less dramatic. Despite some softer moments in tracks such as A Personal Feeling and You’ve Been There Before though, the score is a little too samey throughout its runtime. Its eight minute penultimate track Cthulhu proves to be the most interesting

Monster Mutt Trailer and DVD Date

It was a little over a year ago when I first brought news of Monster Mutt, a monstrous new family film billing itself as "Beethoven meets Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" about a lovable dog transformed by a mad scientist into an adorably silly looking furry fiend. I predicted then it would be on DVD shelves sometime in 2010. My prediction proved off by four days.

Monster Mutt will arriving on DVD shelves at Wal-Mart and other DVD retailers/renters on January 4, 2011. Todd Tucker (a co-producer of the Night of the Demons remake) directs Rhiannon Leigh Wryn (The Last Mimzy), Bart Johnson (High School Musical), Brian Stepanek ("The Suite Life of Zach and Cody"), Juliet Landau ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") and Zack Ward (Postal) in this frightfully funny family flick about a pair of kids trying to save their beloved pooch from a mad scientist working for a sinister villain whose

Orson Welles Rises from the Grave to Tell Christmas Tails in 3D

This is one of the more bizarre stories I’ve posted in my time here: Orson Welles, who died in 1985, will be in a new movie. Well, his voice will be in the movie, but it’s still bizarre how it came about. THR reports that “lost tapes” of Welles narrating a book called Christmas Tails have been uncovered and that Drac Studios will now use them as basis for a movie. The tapes are a result of Welles narrating the book for his friend Robert X. Leed. Leed, in speaking with Drac Studios president Harvey Lowry, remembered he had the tapes, shared them with Lowry, and Lowry started brainstorming ideas for a picture.

Christmas Tails is about Santa’s dog saving Christmas by gathering other canines in the North after the Reindeer fall ill. Welles’ voice will be interspersed throughout and part of the movie will be about uncovering the tapes.

Orson Welles heading back to big screen

Orson Welles heading back to big screen
The late Orson Welles is back in the movie business. A rare recording only recently discovered of the filmmaker narrating a children's Christmas novel is being used as the basis for a film. It is being produced by Drac Studios, best known as a special effects and makeup shop for movies like "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" but now moving into full-fledged production.

Drac is in development on "Christmas Tails," a 3D live-action/CG hybrid movie to be directed by Todd Tucker and narrated by Welles, who died in 1985.

"It's a movie about how Santa's dog saves Christmas, but on one level, this a story about the discovery of Orson's lost tapes," Drac president Harvey Lowry said. "This is a substantial find. It's something that a filmmaker dreams of."

More than 25 years ago, author Robert X. Leed self-published a book titled "Christmas Tails," and in 1985 got his friend --

Now, Drac Studios is opening up Drac Studios Louisiana and going into pre-production on their next feature Dead in the Water , which will be directed by Rob Walker from a script by Si Dunn. Harvey Lowry is producing. "With all of the indie and studio films being shot in Louisiana, it was an easy decision to open a facility in the state," Lowry said. The company is leasing space in Baton Rouge's Raleigh Studios Celtic Media Center.

Drac Studios Duo Complete Monster Mutt

We chatted briefly with Todd Tucker and Harvey Lowry from Drac Studios on the red carpet of Spike's Scream Awards 2009, and the duo were very excited about their upcoming flick Monster Mutt , which Tucker directed and Lowry produced. "We.re a week away from completely finishing Monster Mutt ," Tucker tells Shock. "It.s a family fantasy film about a family dog that gets kidnapped by a corporation, they use him for testing and turn him into a monster dog. It.s lovable big monster dog, all practical FX. It.s a creature suit and an animatronic head." Monster Mutt sounds ideal for the Halloween season; we had to ask the influences they were going for with this one. "It.s very much character driven, it.s PG so it.s not gory or anything," confesses...
