Jean-Claude Van Damme Kicks, Quips His Way Back into Spotlight (Exclusive)

Jean-Claude Van Damme Kicks, Quips His Way Back into Spotlight (Exclusive)
It’s hard to imagine the indefatigable Jean-Claude Van Damme ever tapping out, but after wrapping his new Amazon series, Jean-Claude Van Johnson, the actor needed time to recharge after a surprisingly emotional experience on what, on the surface, seemed like a lighthearted action-comedy show.

“I truly believed in every one of those characters, and it destroyed me -- physically, mentality. It ripped me up,” Van Damme recalls to Et. “At the end of the show, I was very tired, like, ‘Aaaahhh.’”

Most action stars of the ‘90s traded on a grim stoicism, dispatching enemies and saving nations with little more than a grunt. But Van Damme was different, using a light touch and a charming personality to go along with his spinning jump kicks to become an international superstar, one equally at ease with kicking a mascot in the face in Sudden Death and swapping jokes with the Friends gang.

“The thing that always

Daddy’s Home 2 (2017)

This year has been a great movie year, so many unexpected highs and very few legitimately crushing lows (despite what the unnecessarily hate-filled comment sections of many places say). So good a year in fact, that the bad films of 2017 have made an extra effort to be bad, films like King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Fifty Shades Darker and the magnum opus of woeful The Emoji Movie. Well, now we can add another name to the pile in this comedy sequel to the unmemorable 2015 hit Daddy’s Home.

Daddy’s Home 2, like this year’s practically as bad A Bad Moms Christmas, adds more parents to the fray but subtracts all of the laughter. To put it in perspective, the best gag in this cruelly unfunny little film is about a thermostat, which is revealing of the level we are on here. The concept is achingly familiar, as the

‘Godless’: Jeff Daniels Weighs in on His Infamous Line, ’This Ain’t My Death’

‘Godless’: Jeff Daniels Weighs in on His Infamous Line, ’This Ain’t My Death’
[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from “Godless.”]

The Old West was a lawless place, where nothing was certain except for dust and hardship. On Netflix’s limited series “Godless,” outlaw Frank Griffin was certain about one thing though: how he wasn’t going to die.

“This ain’t my death,” he says over and over again like a mantra. Whether he has a noose around his neck or a shotgun pointed at his heart, he holds onto that unshakeable belief. “This ain’t my death. I’ve seen my death; this ain’t it.”

Jeff Daniels, who portrays Frank Griffin, spoke to IndieWire about that infamous line. “If it were a song, it’d be a good hook,” he said. “You preface that with, ‘Is this it? No, it’s not it. This ain’t my death. I just checked. Didn’t get the feeling that this was it.’ And that’s kind of all he goes on.

‘Daddy’s Home 2′ Review

Stars: Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, John Lithgow, Mel Gibson, Linda Cardellini | Written by Sean Anders, John Morris | Directed by Sean Anders

There’s a scene at the end of Daddy’s Home 2, Sean Anders’ sequel to his mediocre 2015 hit, which has all the hallmarks of a classic Christmas movie climax: the characters, previously at odds, coming together for a joyous singalong. Except the song they choose is Feed the World. The Band Aid anthem – once a call for the Western world to mobilise to relieve the vast suffering in Africa – is malignly appropriated as a campy joke, hollered against a backdrop of a shamelessly product-placed cinema chain handing out free snacks to gorging Americans. It’s not even the worst scene in the film, but it does epitomise a so-called comedy which is thoughtless on multiple levels, and frequently tasteless.

Brad (Will Ferrell) and Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) are now entrenched

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg make such a great comedic pair.

We saw it at first with their buddy-cop comedy The Other Guys, and then again with Daddy's Home, where Ferrell played the step-father to Wahlberg's children. The two men could not be any more different in their fathering approach, and that's likely because of their own fathers who enter the mix in the sequel, Daddy's Home 2, played by John Lithgow and Mel Gibson.

We had a chance to talk to the stars of the film. Check out the interview below and see Daddy's Home 2, now playing at Cineplex theatres.

Movie Review – Daddy’s Home 2 (2017)

Daddy’s Home 2, 2017.

Directed by Sean Anders.

Starring Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Mel Gibson, John Lithgow, John Cena, Linda Cardellini, Alessandra Ambrosio, Owen Vaccaro, Scarlett Estevez, Didi Costine, and Oscar Wahlberg

Synopsis:

Brad and Dusty must deal with their intrusive fathers during the holidays.

The greatest strength of the Daddy’s Home series continues to be on-the-nose casting. Released in 2015, the first dysfunctional family comedy made use of the excellent comedic Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg comedic pairing (a duo that were absolutely electric in The Other Guys), so it’s only fitting that director and co-writer Sean Anders (returning for the sequel and also known for Horrible Bosses) have found grandfather components containing that same hysterical chemistry by way of drastically opposing personalities.

Starting with Mel Gibson as Kurt, father to Mark Wahlberg’s Dusty, it’s important to note that he isn’t exactly a carbon copy. Sure,

‘Daddy’s Home 2’ Film Review: Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell Listlessly Pack This Stocking With Coal

‘Daddy’s Home 2’ Film Review: Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell Listlessly Pack This Stocking With Coal
Somewhere, there’s a parallel universe where the Will Ferrell-Mark Wahlberg movie that became a series is their 2010 collaboration “The Other Guys” — and in the words of Tina Fey, “I want to go to there,” if only to be spared any future sequels like “Daddy’s Home 2,” a painfully unfunny follow-up to the painfully unfunny 2015 movie. I laughed a total of three times during this witless trudge as it went through its predetermined part-two paces — gotta make the friends into enemies again so they can become friends all over again — and found myself wishing I was...

The Preview Reel: The Daddy’s Are Home Again to Take a Ride on the Orient Express

Welcome to this week’s “Preview Reel” column, where we look at the week’s upcoming wide-release movies. Unsurprisingly, Thor: Ragnarok dominated the box office last weekend with a debut of $122.7 million, which was good for the fourth-highest opening of the year. The well-received Marvel film will likely repeat this weekend as Kenneth Branagh’s murder mystery Murder on the Orient Express and the comedy sequel Daddy’s Home 2 battle for second place.

Murder on the Orient Express

What we are excited about: Easily the most exciting aspect of this movie is the all-star cast that includes: Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Judi Dench, and Daisy Ridley to name just a few headlining this impressive collection of talent. If they are all able to bring their A-games and the mystery is intriguing enough, this could be an early holiday season treat.

What we are worried about: Kenneth Branagh stars and directs in the movie,

Inside Brooke Shields’ Stylish New York Townhouse That’s Filled with Feathered Friends
Every room in Brooke Shields’s four-story New York City townhouse has what the actress calls “a cherry”—that “one thing I really didn’t want to live without, the one thing I splurged on.”

In the living room it’s the stone mantel Shields and her architect rescued from the Plaza Hotel after the property was refurbished in the mid-2000s; in the dining room it’s the hand-blocked wallpaper; and in her light-filled kitchen it’s the custom-made marble-topped dining table, inspired by a baker’s cart that Shields, 52, spotted in Europe. “If you look underneath it,” she points out,

Mark Wahlberg Is the Highest Paid Actor in the World

Mark Wahlberg Is the Highest Paid Actor in the World
Brother, can you spare a dime. With quite a few siblings, Mark Wahlberg probably hears this all the time. And he's pressed hard to come through with a loan every now and then, because Forbes just outed the actor and former Funky Bunch crew leader as the highest paid actor in the world. It's difficult for the man to say he just doesn't have the cash right now. He's definitely not strapped.

Forbes reveals that Wahlberg has pocked $68 million over the past year. His personal gain comes from a number of different projects and streams of revenue. He stars in two movies this year. The first, Transformers: The Last Knight, arrived this summer. It wasn't exactly the hit Paramount was hoping for as they try to rejuvenate the flailing franchise. The second is Daddy's Home 2, a Christmas themed comedy that arrives in November. Factored into this latest pay overview

Will Ferrell Takes the Lead in The 100 Year-Old Man
It's official. Will Ferrell is The 100 Year-Old Man. The improv icon will be starring in the comedy for CBS Films. The script for this hilarious caper will be based on author Jonas Jonasson's bestselling novel The 100 Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared. Not only is Ferrell set to play the lead, he'll also be producing the movie.

Will Ferrell is playing senior citizen Allan. The elderly man manages to escapes from his nursing home on his 100th birthday. While he goes on the run, it is revealed that Allan took part in several different defining events from the 20th Century. It's a lot like that little seen movie from 1994 called Forrest Gump. The movie was already made in Sweden. In that version, Allan had a fateful meeting with President Harry S. Truman. And he also had a memorable run-in with Robert Oppenheimer, the guy who created the atomic bomb.

The Hitman’s Bodyguard Review

  • HeyUGuys
Author: Scott Davis

For anyone that loved Cannon Films in the 1980’s and their shlocky, grotesque but strangely enjoyable fare, Millennium Films are still flying the Golan-Globus flag some three decades later. Many of those who worked for the charismatic Israeli cousins during that manic few years through such “classics” as Invasion USA, Missing in Action, Lifeforce and Over The Top, are now part of Millennium and while a lot of their properties share much of its DNA, there’s an air of quality control with the new gang.

Their latest 21st-century Cannon-esque outing is The Hitman’s Bodyguard, another run-of-the-mill action-comedy that has all the hallmarks of being a little bit of a stinker from the off. But it’s with great joy that we can shake off those fears and proclaim the film one of the year’s most ridiculous but unabashedly delightful romps with two stars at the top of their powers.

‘Fast Times’ at 35: Cameron Crowe, Amy Heckerling on Courting David Lynch, Sean Penn’s Method Acting, Genital Equality

‘Fast Times’ at 35: Cameron Crowe, Amy Heckerling on Courting David Lynch, Sean Penn’s Method Acting, Genital Equality
The seminal teen flick “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” is celebrating its 35th anniversary on Sunday.

Not only did the coming-of-age tale set in Southern California launch the careers of director Amy Heckerling and writer Cameron Crowe, the comedy catapulted Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Phoebe Cates, and Judge Reinhold into stardom.

And in 2005, “Fast Times,” which was based on Crowe’s 1981 book chronicling his adventures going undercover at a San Diego high school, was selected for preservation in the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

Ironically, “Fast Times” had to overcome many obstacles during production and almost failed to get released.

Among the early difficulties the production encountered was finding a director for the comedy, which also featured future best actor Oscar winners Forest Whitaker and Nicolas Cage — billed as Nicolas Coppola — as well as Eric Stoltz and Anthony Edwards.

Universal executive Thom Mount surprisingly recommended David Lynch, who
