World War II ‘Kamikaze’ Movie in the Works From Gianni Nunnari

Gianni Nunnari’s Hollywood Gang Productions has launched development on a World War II movie about the USS Laffey, which survived an intense kamikaze attack during the Battle of Okinawa in 1945.

The film has been given a working title of “Kamikaze” with Rosalind Ross hired to adapt from John Wukovitz’s book “Hell From the Heavens: The Epic Story of the USS Laffey and World War II’s Greatest Kamikaze Attack.”

The crew of USS Laffey withstood an attack that included four bomb hits and six kamikaze planes crashing into the ship, setting the destroyer ablaze. A total of 32 men died and 71 were wounded that day. Captain Frederick Julian Becton refused to give up, saying “I’ll never abandon this ship as long as a single gun will fire.”

The film will be produced by Nunnari, along with Hollywood Gang’s Shannon Gaulding. Nunnari’s producing credits include “300,” “Immortals,” and “300: Rise of an Empire,” along

Back in January, Cult of Chucky, Universal 1440's highly-anticipated horror sequel, started production, with director Don Mancini and star Jennifer Tilly sharing the first set photos. Now that the film is in post-production, the wait for the first trailer begins. But before the first footage drops, writer-director Don Mancini descended upon the Monsterpalooza convention in Pasadena, California this weekend, where he shed some new light on this sequel. During his convention appearance, the director made quite the bold statement, revealing that this will be the goriest Chucky movie ever.

"The gore effects in this movie, this is definitly the goriest of all of the movies. [This] wasn't something [we] set out to do, it just sort of turned out that way."

Don Mancini was joined by Jennifer Tilly, Fiona Dourif and animatronic effects supervisor Tony Gardner at the convention, with the director revealing that the story picks up directly after 2013's Curse of Chucky.

L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz and its sequels have been adapted for the screen for nearly as long as there has been cinema. There's something about the tale of farmgirl Dorothy Gale being swept into the strange, magical, and sometimes scary land of Oz that has stuck in American popular consciousness and never let go.

Emerald City is the latest addition to the long on-screen Oz tradition, but, for all of the ways it draws from its obvious source material, it's strengths and weakness are defined by other pop

Here’s the official plot.

Confined to an asylum for the criminally insane for the past four years, Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) is erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when her psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic “tool” to facilitate his patients’ group sessions — an all-too-familiar “Good Guy” doll with an innocently smiling face — a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn’t crazy after all. New Promos For NBC’s Emerald City Reveal A Very Different Oz

NBC’s certainly not in Kansas anymore. Starting early next year, TV audiences everywhere will get to see a new take on the classic L. Frank Baum story with Emerald City. Given the Game of Thrones treatment, these new clips promise a decidedly fresh and far more mature take on the fable.

The first video focuses on Adria Arjona, who’ll play Dorothy in this new version, as well as Oliver Jackson-Cohen, who’ll play a version-of-sorts of the Scarecrow called Lucas, and Joely Richardson, who’ll play Glinda. It certainly teases something grand and expensive, but are fans really going to eat up a darker, moodier, sexier version of The Wizard of Oz? That remains to be seen, but NBC is, at the very least, confident that audiences at home will go down this weathered Yellow Brick Road.

The second promo finds Vincent D’Onofrio, playing a nearly-unrecognizable version of the Wizard,

Cinelou Sets Jacob Tremblay’s ‘Burn Your Maps’ for February Release (Exclusive)
Cinelou Films has set an Oscar weekend release date of Feb. 24 for its Vera Farmiga-Jacob Tremblay comedy-drama “Burn Your Maps,” Variety has learned exclusively.

The film, directed by Jordan Roberts, centers on an American 8-year-old who declares to his parents that he is actually a Mongolian goat herder born in the wrong place. When he meets a similarly displaced Indian filmmaker, they journey east, seeking what they believe to be their true place in the world.

“It’s the same kind of quirky story as ‘Little Miss Sunshine,’ and we think mature audience will respond — particularly with an opening on the Oscar weekend,” said Mark Canton, who founded Cinelou in 2014 with Courtney Solomon.

Burn Your Maps” is the fifth title from Cinelou, founded as a prestige label specializing in character-driven adult-targeted movies in the $10 million range. Since then, it’s released Jennifer Aniston’s dark comedy “Cake” and

Immortals 2 Not Off The Table At Relativity

Before Henry Cavill became the Man of Steel for Warner Bros., there was Immortals, a lavish fantasy drama that first released five years ago. In those intervening years, Relativity Media has continually dropped hints of its plans to push on with a sequel – not all that surprising, given the original 2011 hit pulled in $226 million worldwide – and the latest report from Screen Daily indicates that Immortals 2 may not be such a far-fetched idea after all.

In fact, it’s one of a number of embryonic follow-ups kicking around at Relativity, now that the company has teamed up with Storyoscopic Films to engineer “family films and branded features with global appeal.” Among that slate of sequels no one asked for are November Man 2, Act of Valor 2 and Earth to Echo 2.

Out of those prospective films, Immortals 2 appears to hold the most potential, and not just because it features Henry Cavill’s name on the masthead.
