Los Cabos Raises the Ante with Stars, TV, Buzzed-Up Titles
Mexico City – In a visionary move, Mexico’s Los Cabos Festival launched in 2012 as a crossroads for the U.S., Mexican and Canadian industries – just as Mexican talent fires up the U.S. Latino market, Mexico consolidated as a film power which could bring significant money to the table and Canadian film authorities and filmmakers began to cultivate co-productions with Latin America.

Three years later, running Nov. 11-15, and bookended in 2015 by Jean-Marc Vallee’s “Demolition Man” and Michael Fassbender starrer “Steve Jobs,” Los Cabos boasts far more star presence: Academy Award winner Jared Leto, Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor.

Fest also bows news sections- Tastes, a gastronomy focus; American Specials, for audience friendly fare; Outdoor screenings; and Spotlight, featuring Alex Ross-Perry (“Listen Up Phillip,” “Queen of Earth”) and his regular d.p. Sean Price Williams.

In industry terms, the 4th Los Cabos has made another forward-thinking strategic land-grab launching Cabos TV.

Meanwhile, Diane's longtime boyfriend, Joshua Jackson, has been keeping busy on his own series, shooting the final season of Fringe in Vancouver in recent months. Morning Meme: Rachel Makes Kurt Cry On "Glee," Roison Murphy Gives Furry "Stimulation," and Russell Brand Explains Addiction

  • The Backlot
Russell Brand offers the best description of addiction I've ever read. “This is when you know it’s a disease. It doesn’t matter that I sat in that flat in Hackney and now I’m in the [upscale hotel] Savoy. I’m jealous of me then. It doesn’t make a difference to me. The money, the fame, the power, the sex, the women — none of it. I’d rather be a drug addict.”

We just landed a one ton mobile laboratory on Mars, and we managed to get pictures from the event in 15 minutes, which beats the hell out of the six hour delay we're getting for the Olympics, taking place in London. I stole that from somebody I'd like to credit, but now I forgot who.

The Human Rights Campaign has designated $250,000 each to Washington, Maryland, Maine and Minnesota to fight the ballot amendments on marriage taking place this November.

Vancouver, Canada – Whether it be rides to the airport, relationship advice or a place to crash, whenever anyone in her family needs ‘saving’, Vanessa (Kelly Hu) is the one they rely on.

The 30-something career woman must try to find a balance between her demanding family and her new found love as Vanessa realizes she is the one who needs to be saved from it all.

Vaff 2011 – Preview

Vancouver, Canada – Providing a forum for independent North American Asian filmmakers, the upcoming Vancouver Asian Film Festival (Vaff) will offer audiences a diverse selection of shorts and full features.

Celebrating its 15th year, the festival’s theme for 2011, ‘Love Letters to Vancouver’, ties in with the city of Vancouver’s 125th birthday celebration. The plywood background for the program guide cover may seem familiar because it was inspired after the Canucks riot when everyone wrote their ‘Love Letters’ to the city on the plywood covering broken windows and doors.

With almost 60 films and over 60 diverse Asian filmmakers, actors and special guests scheduled to attend this year’s festival, this is the largest Vancouver Asian Film festival to date.

Here are a few Vaff 2011 films we are looking forward to:

Chen Returns To Movies After Sex Scandal

  • WENN
Chen Returns To Movies After Sex Scandal
Asian superstar Edison Chen is returning to the big screen for the first time since a sex photo scandal threatened to ruin his career.

The Hong Kong-based singer/actor hit headlines last year after over 1,000 intimate shots of him engaged in sexual acts with several different women - all rising stars in Asia - hit the web.

The furore around the sex snaps forced Chen to flee Hong Kong and the controversy ended the entertainment careers of most of the girls involved.

But studio bosses have decided to give Chen another chance, and have signed him up to appear in new English-language comedy Almost Perfect.

The film tells the story of a girl who juggles her boyfriend and her family, and is reportedly set to his Chinese cinemas next year.

Chen has previously appeared in Infernal Affairs, The Grudge 2, and also had a cameo in last year's Batman movie The Dark Knight.
