The Batman's Matt Reeves inks deal with Netflix

David Crow Jan 8, 2018

Batman and Apes director, Matt Reeves, is setting up a first-look deal at Netflix for his production company...

In yet another sign of the changing times, director Matt Reeves at the height of his blockbuster and franchised prowess has set-up a new deal for his production company, 6th & Idaho, with the streaming service Netflix, as per Deadline.

To contextualise this for a moment, the director of the last two highly regarded Planet Of The Apes films and Warner Bros' upcoming and untitled Batman movie is setting up shop for at least the next several years with Netflix, which would allow the streaming giant to have first look at any movies Reeves produces through 6th & Idaho, which presumably would include films he would also direct.

The move follows a year in which Netflix has attracted increasingly well-known genre filmmakers like Bong Joon-ho and David Ayer in 2017, and

The Batman Director Matt Reeves Signs Deal with Netflix

Netflix is continuing to take bold steps. The streaming company has made a pretty significant move forward by landing a first look deal with A-list director Matt Reeves (The Batman, War for the Planet of the Apes). The deal also includes Reeves' production company, 6th and Idaho, and it will give Netflix the first look rights at any feature movies that Matt Reeves wants to direct or produce. Reeves previously held the same type of deal with Fox and now he's taking a chance with Netflix, which could see more major name directors take the plunge with the steaming giant.

Matt Reeves is currently signed on to write and helm The Batman for Warner Bros. and DC after taking over those duties from Ben Affleck, and now he has a new deal working with Netflix. The director released a statement speaking of his excitement to work with Netflix and their

The Predator production designer enlisted for live-action Akira

Having been in development for over 15 years now, it seems that the live-action Hollywood remake of Akira is finally starting to move forward towards production.

With Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi reportedly circling the director’s chair – and stating that he’s looking to adapt the manga, rather than the classic anime movie – it is now being reported that Warner Bros. has enlisted a production designer to help bring Neo-Tokyo to life.

According to Omega Underground, The Predator production designer Martin Whist has now boarded the project. Whist’s previous credits include Cloverfield, Super 8, The Cabin in the Woods, RoboCop and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb.

Warner Bros. first picked up the rights to Akira in 2002, with a number of directors becoming attached over the years including Stephen Norrington (Blade), Ruairi Robinson (The Last Days on Mars), Allen and Albert Hughes (The Book of Eli) and

Paramount Delays The Release Of Cloverfield 3

One of the most eagerly awaited films of 2018 – often referred to as Cloverfield 3 – has just been delayed by Paramount Pictures, in a move that will undoubtedly disappoint many fans of the burgeoning franchise. The J.J. Abrams-produced endeavour was originally slated for a February 2nd theatrical debut, but has now been pushed back to April 20th.

The Cloverfield franchise is a project that’s particularly fascinating in an era of Hollywood filmmaking that seems to hinge on ever-increasing levels of series cohesion. While loyal audiences of the biggest film franchises purposefully seek out closely woven connections between entries, Cloverfield is atypical in its nature as an anthology series. These are films that appear to share only the loosest of connections, while building an expansive new cinematic universe.

It began in 2008, with the giant success of Matt ReevesCloverfield. A high concept, invigorating take on both genre and artistic convention, the
