Fans don't have to worry whether The Big Bang Theory TV show will be cancelled too soon. Back in March of 2017, CBS renewed it through season 12. The Chuck Lorre - Bill Prady sitcom remains one of the highest-rated network TV shows on network television, even though its numbers have dropped over the years. Christmas specials are in full swing, and the networks dusted off some of their biggest classics last week: ABC’s “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and CBS’ “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” In their inaugural 2017 runs, “Rudolph” (2.1 among adults 18-49) edged out “Charlie Brown” (1.8), giving a ratings edge to the reindeer with a very shiny nose.

“Rudolph,” which premiered in 1964, and “Charlie Brown,” which first bowed in 1965, are considered the key staples in a sea of primetime holiday specials, some of which have come and gone over the years. But both specials were overshadowed this year by a newcomer: “DreamWorks Trolls Holiday,” which averaged a 2.4 rating when it aired on Nov. 24, during the Thanksgiving weekend.

But there are plenty of caveats to all of this, since none of the specials actually faced off in the same time slot. “A Charlie Brown Christmas” performed respectably considering it aired in a tough Thursday 8 p.

Apple unveiled its charts ranking the most popular movies, TV shows, music, apps, books and podcasts in the U.S. for 2017 — with both new and familiar faces in the world of media and entertainment.

The No. 1 movie of the year on Apple’s iTunes was Disney’s “Moana,” followed by Disney/Lucafilm’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and Warner Bros. “Wonder Woman.”

In TV, perennial favorites HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” AMC’s “The Walking Dead” and CBS’s “The Big Bang Theory” were the top three programs. New series charting in 2017 included HBO’s “Big Little Lies,” NBC’s “This Is Us,” PBS’s “Victoria” and FX’s “The Americans.”

Critics' Choice Awards 2018: Netflix, FX's Feud Lead TV Nominations
Nominees for the 23rd annual Critics’ Choice Awards were announced Wednesday, setting the stage for a clash of the small-screen titans next month.

Though Netflix is leading the pack with 20 total nominations, it’s FX’s Feud: Bette and Joan that emerged as the most-nominated show, with five of its performers also scoring individual nods. FX’s Fargo and HBO’s Big Little Lies also fared well, earning five nominations a piece.

The winners — including those in the film categories, which you can read here — will be announced during a live ceremony airing Thursday, Jan. 11 at 8/7c on The CW.
