Appaloosa

Ed Harris directed and starred in this 2008 throwback to cowboy movies of yore, in particular 1959’s Warlock. Harris and Viggo Mortensen are the marshall and deputy of small town Appaloosa, New Mexico going toe to toe with a ruthless rancher played by Jeremy Irons. In another nod to time-honored Western tropes, Renée Zellweger plays the alluring widow who comes between the lawmaker and his right-hand man.

Movie on Paralympic Medalist Bradley Snyder in the Works

Red Entertainment is developing an authorized biopic on Paralympic gold medalist Bradley Snyder with Robert Knott on board to script.

Red Sanders is producing the project, which will chronicle the life of the former U.S. Navy lieutenant who lost his eyesight while serving in Afghanistan.

One year after he lost his vision, he won two gold medals and one silver medal for the United States in swimming at the 2012 London Paralympic Games. Knott is closely working with Snyder. Production is expected to begin in the summer.

“My life’s great challenge came in the form of visual impairment, but we all face adversity,” said Snyder. “I hope my story will inspire people to adopt a positive outlook that enables them to courageously overcome their struggles.”

Knott wrote “Buster” for Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Picture Show and Universal Pictures. He also co-wrote, produced and directed the second unit for “Appaloosa,

‘Astronaut Wives Club’ Gets Summer Premiere Date on ABC

‘Astronaut Wives Club’ Gets Summer Premiere Date on ABC
Astronaut Wives Club” is finally ready to blast off at ABC, with the network announcing on Monday a summer premiere date for the new drama.

Originally scheduled to bow last summer and then pushed to spring for retooling and some cast changes, “Astronaut Wives Club” will air Thursdays at 8 p.m. starting June 18. That launch date will allow the network to promote the series during coverage of the NBA Finals, which will occupy Thursdays earlier in the month.

ABC had announced its summer schedule earlier this month, but there was no mention of “Astronaut Wives Club” at that time.

Based on the book by Lily Koppel, “Astronaut Wives Club” focuses on seven women who were key players behind some of the biggest events in American history. As America’s astronauts were launched on death-defying missions, the lives of their young wives were transformed, seemingly overnight, from military spouses to American royalty.

Together, we chatted about what drew him to the script, what it’s like working with Chris Evans, if and when Harris will be making a return to the director’s chair, and his advice for up-and-coming actors.

Could you talk about, in working with such an international crew, and especially the director, and the two other main characters are Korean, so what was like a big discovery for you?

Ed Harris: Well you know, the most interesting thing was the style of filming, you know?

Westerns find their new normal

Westerns are one of those rare, uniquely American film genres. They dominated film screens for years, were amongst some of the finest stories told in film, and they are films that have created some of the most compelling characters in film history.

But somewhere around the brilliant, sprawling mini-series Lonesome Dove in 1989, the western lost its appeal to the mass audience. They suddenly seemed out of touch and with the exception of movies like Young Guns (and its sequel). In recent years, however, westerns have been making an unmistakable resurgence in both film and television.

They didn’t completely disappear, though. In fact a few would pop up every few years in the 90s, some of the most notable include Unforgiven in 1992, Dances with Wolves in 1990, 1994’s Maverick and 1993’s Tombstone. They’d make a splash and everyone would talk about how it was going to revive the genre but alas it never really happened.

Viggo Mortensen Offered Role In Dracula Movie The Last Voyage Of The Demeter

Viggo Mortensen should be a rock star. Like, a bigger rock star than he already is. The dude makes fascinating choices with his career. Yes, he lands in super-mega-franchises like the Lord of the Rings trilogy. But he also collaborates with David Cronenberg, tries offbeat Westerns in Appaloosa and Hidalgo, and, if this news can be confirmed, might play a vampire-smuggler in a long-gestating project. That would be Millenium Films. The Last Voyage of the Demeter, a movie centered on a ship that transports Dracula from Transylvania to England. Neil Marshall has been set to direct the feature for some time now, working off a Bragi F. Schut screenplay adapted from the novels of Bram Stoker. Bloody Disgusting now says that Mortensen is being pursued for the role of Henry Clemens, while Ben Kingsley still is being considered for the role of the ship.s captain. There were even rumors

Supporting Actors: The Overlooked and Underrated (part 5 of 5)

Gary Oldman as Jackie Flannery in State Of Grace (Phil Joanou, 1990, USA):

Long considered one of the most talented actors in cinema, it’s very strange that his outstanding acting as the younger brother of Ed Harris’ local crime boss in this underrated film doesn’t get talked about nearly enough when discussing Oldman’s body of work. This is a must-see performance for all Oldman fans. For the record, State Of Grace is a far better Irish mob film than The Departed (Martin Scorsese, 2006, USA), primarily because it contains much better acting across the board. Oldman was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (Tomas Alfredson, 2011, UK/France).

Other notable Gary Oldman performances: Prick Up Your Ears (Stephen Frears, 1987, USA), Dracula (Francis Ford Coppola, 1992, USA), True Romance (Tony Scott, 1993, USA), Leon: The Professional (Luc Besson, 1994, France), Air Force One (Wolfgang Petersen, 1997, USA), The Contender (Rod Lurie,
