Thank You For Smoking: Lighting Up With Billy Wilder

By Jacob Oller

Smoking kills but Billy Wilder made it look killer. illy Wilder was one of the sharpest film writers of all time. His directing, to say the least, wasn’t half bad either. His films dripped with acid far more potent than that of his contemporaries and delightfully dissolved inside of seemingly standard genres of the time. […]

Exclusive: From 'Undressed' to 'StartUp,' a Career Retrospective With Adam Brody
For better or worse, Adam Brody will always be remembered as Seth Cohen from The O.C. The affable and awkward teen is easy to find inside the weathered and wiser 37-year-old Brody, but the San Diego native might never be able to shake his early-aughts pop culture iconography. Despite that infamous role, Brody has had a pretty consistent career over the last two decades, playing opposite Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in Mr. & Mrs. Smith, being directed by famed playwright Neil Labute and making guest appearances on beloved TV shows like House of Lies and The League. This month, he’s in the buddy comedy Big Bear, where he gets to sport a pretty mean mustache, and returns with the second season of StartUp on Crackle.

With two such diverse roles coming out in the same month and nostalgia for shows like Gilmore Girls and The O.C. at an all-time high, Brody sits down

Hugh Jackman steps into the political world as Gary Hart in The Frontrunner

  • HeyUGuys
Author: Zehra Phelan

Hugh Jackman is shaking off the shackles of his X-Men persona, Logan and re-immersing himself back into Hollywood in a political role as the frontrunner in the 1988 Democratic presidential nomination politician Gary Hart in The Frontrunner.

Jackman only this year hung up his Wolverine claws in what can be seen as Logan’s most emotional and greatest outing, now he will don the cap of a political leader who was rocked by shame when his extramarital affair with Diane Rice saw Hart having to concede his nomination.

Based on the 2014 book from political journalist Matt Bai, All the Truth is Out, the story focuses on Hart’s meteoric rise and dramatic fall as he sought the nation’s highest office. Massachusetts Gov. Mike Dukakis, who had been trailing Hart, wound up landing the Democratic nomination. He eventually lost to George Bush. But the Hart story proved to

Hugh Jackman lands new leading role in The Frontrunner

Hugh Jackman is set to headline Jason Reitman's adaptation of the book The Frontrunner...

American politics. That seems like a nice, calm thing to make a movie about, especially right now. Rarely, er, have things felt so settled.

Enter then Hugh Jackman, who’s set to take the lead in The Frontrunner, the story of Gary Hart’s run for President in the 1988 race. Hart was the leading candidate for the Democratic party presidential nominee in that race, and was set to go head to head with George H W Bush. But then scandals happen, and these were detailed in the book All The Truth Is Out, by Matt Bai.

Bai is one of three writers adapting his book for the screen, with Jay Carson and Jason Reitman also on scribbling duties. And the movie is set to be the next directorial outing for Reitman, who

Newswire: Hugh Jackman to play Frontrunner Gary Hart for Jason Reitman

  • The AV Club
Hugh Jackman is ready to trade in slashing bad guys for shaking hands and kissing babies (and possibly some other, more scandalous stuff), with Variety reporting that the Logan star has signed on for the title role in Jason Reitman’s new film The Frontrunner. Jackman will star as Senator Gary Hart, the 1988 Democratic candidate whose hopes for the presidency were destroyed when allegations arose that he was engaged in an extramarital affair. Although Hart attempted to weather the accusations, his credibility was damaged, leaving opponent Michael Dukakis to get crushed in the ’88 campaign against George H.W. Bush.

The Frontrunner marks a return to more political film-making for Reitman, who made a name for himself with 2005’s Thank You For Smoking. The Oscar-nominated director is currently finishing up work on his latest feature, Tully, with Charlize Theron and Juno writer Diablo Cody.

Hugh Jackman will star as Sen. Gary Hart in Jason Reitman’s political drama “The Frontrunner.”

Hart was the frontrunner during the early stages of the 1988 race for the Democratic presidential nomination when his campaign was rocked by revelations of an extramarital affair with Donna Rice. The Colorado senator then dropped out of the race.

“The Frontrunner” is being produced by Jason Reitman and Helen Estabrook through their Right of Way Films in partnership with Bron StudiosAaron L. Gilbert.

The Best Indie Film Directors are Working on One Hulu Show, and Most Just Happen to be Women
Each year, when “Casual” executive producers Zander Lehmann and Helen Estabrook brainstorm who should direct the new season, it starts with two very simple requirements:

“We sit down and make our list of who we most want to work with, and which good indie movies we’ve seen lately,” said Lehmann, who created the Hulu comedy.

“We’ve always really wanted to match the indie filmmaking aesthetic and perspective with a television show, so a lot of it comes from us sitting down and thinking about, ‘Who are the directors working in this space that we’re really excited about?’” Estabrook said.

Jason Reitman’s newest collaboration with Diablo Cody gets acquired by Focus Features

A few years ago, filmmaker Jason Reitman could do no wrong. The man who made an impressive debut with Thank You For Smoking had followed it up with the Academy Award winning Juno and then the phenomenal Up in the Air, which for a brief moment was the Oscar frontrunner in Best Picture. Since then, Reitman’s movies have gotten a more mixed reception, between Young Adult, Labor Day, and the deeply divisive Men, Women, and Children. His films remain something to look forward to though, and his next one has found a home. Focus Features has announced that they’ve picked it up and will be putting it out next April. We’re less than a year out now from a new Reitman work. Fans should rejoice about that. His new movie is Tully, another collaboration with screenwriter Diablo Cody. Not a whole lot is known about it right now,
