Watch John Oliver Explore Insanity of Standardized Testing

Watch John Oliver Explore Insanity of Standardized Testing
With the school year winding down around the United States, John Oliver dedicated a segment of Sunday's Last Week Tonight to exposing the insanity of standardized tests, "the fastest way to terrify any child with five letters outside of just whispering the word 'clown.'"

The host opens the segment by highlighting schools' absurd methods of pumping up students for the exams – from test-hyping parody songs to pep rallies (like one in Texas that featured the Funky Monkey mascot). But nobody's laughing about standardized tests, which often put unfair pressure on teachers and students.

R.I.P. Taylor Negron & Anita Ekberg

  • Dark Horizons
The world lost two famous supporting screen talents this weekend. Firstly, comedian and famed character actor Taylor Negron died at the age of 57 after a long battle with cancer. You may not recognise the name, but his deadpan delivery and complete lack of fear about tackling all sorts of topics will long be remembered.

Negron is best known for numerous bit roles in various films and TV shows including "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," "The Last Boy Scout," "Easy Money," "River's Edge," "Punchline," "Angels in the Outfield," "Spy Hard," "Bio-Dome," Chairman of the Board," "The Thin Pink Line," "Stuart Little," "The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas ," "The In Crowd," "Loser," "The Hughleys," "So Little Time," "Funky Monkey," "The Aristocrats," "Three Days to Vegas," "Vamps" and more.

Sadly he isn't the only one to have passed on though as screen actress Anita Ekberg also died over the weekend at the age

The Amazing Race Ep. 21.4, “Funky Monkey”: Poor design and an inevitable exit lead to a pretty dull leg

  • SoundOnSight
The Amazing Race Review, Season 21, Episode 4, “Funky Monkey

Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS

A common question among long-time fans of The Amazing Race asks why the later seasons feel so different. Along with a faster-paced editing and more gimmicks, the main changes have involved the casting. The producers look more for characters of a specific type than the “regular people” approach of the early years. These contestants are frequently recruited and don’t always understand the show. This leads to a lot of mistakes and manufactured drama, but that doesn’t mean it’s a better series. Ardent fans usually wish for more applicants who love the show in place of over-the-top characters. The tricky part is that super fans aren’t always more interesting contestants. While the general concept is positive, this move can backfire and lead to inept and dull racers. Viewers may hate a crazy team,

'Rio' Soundtrack: Brazilian Rhythms & Blue Sky

  • NextMovie
We've been begging and pleading with our girlfriends to let us go to Rio de Janeiro, but something about the bounty of thongs and beaches has always thwarted our travel attempts. C'est la vie.

In lieu of a spontaneous vacation, though, the best we could get is the soundtrack to Blue Sky's "Rio," the upcoming animated film about a rare macaw (voiced by Jesse Eisenberg) who travels to South America to find his female counterpart and revitalize his dying species. Man, even the birds think about sex down there.

As you'd expect, the soundtrack leans heavy on the Brazilian theme, melding updated versions of classic songs with new tracks by R&B and pop superstars. Jamie Foxx and will.i.am's "Hot Wings (I Wanna Party)" should – intentionally or not – please any 8-year-old, with Foxx singing "I wanna fly just like a bird" before being reminded, "But you are a bird.

Jamie Foxx, Will.i.am headline “Rio” movie soundtrack

By Sean O’Connell

Hollywoodnews.com: How is it possible the upcoming “Rio” soundtrack doesn’t feature Duran Duran singing their smash hit?

Well, there’s still plenty of talent on deck for the “Rio” record, which will arrive in stores April 5 on Fox Music/Interscope Records. Will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas, Jamie Foxx, Bebel Gilberto, Taio Cruz, Ester Dean, Siedah Garrett, Jemaine Clement (of Flight of the Conchords), and Brazilian sensation Carlinhos Brown collaborate with film composer John Powell to juice up the song track for the anticipated animated hit.

From the release:

From the makers of the hit Ice Age series comes Rio, a comedy adventure about taking a walk on the wild side. Blu (Jesse Eisenberg) is a domesticated Macaw who never learned to fly, living a comfortable life with his owner and best friend Linda (Leslie Mann) in the small town of Moose Lake, Minnesota.
