'The Thousand Faces of Dunjia': Film Review

'The Thousand Faces of Dunjia': Film Review
Members of an ancient clan of do-gooders must retrieve an all-powerful magic orb in order to restore peace and order to the — well, you know the drill — in The Thousand Faces of Dunjia, a lively if very familiar-feeling fantasy adventure from writer/producer Tsui Hark and director Yuen Wo Ping. Those two names will ensure attention in the West to this aspiring franchise-starter; but Americans who know Yuen for his thrilling fight work in Kill Bill, The Grandmaster, Drunken Master and countless other films will not see his signature here. Viewers with a high tolerance for computer-generated fantasy are...

Is Quentin Tarantino Going to Direct a Star Trek Film?

This is one of those blogs that requires an epic Khan-like scream from readers who are devout Trekkies. Based on Tarantino’s stated desire to write for Star Trek from the 1960’s episodes, and getting an apparent serious look from Paramount, there may be cause for concern. But first, we need to ask ourselves why Paramount, J.J. Abrams, or anyone else would consider adding Tarantino to the Director’s List of a Star Trek film. His style is questionable for movie critics and for movie goers alike. Kill Bill was a violent gore fest using thousands of gallons of fake (we hope)

10 awesome martial arts fights in the snow

Craig Lines Dec 6, 2017

Christmas and martial arts movies? They rarely crossover. But amazing fights in the snow? Now we're in business...

I love martial arts movies and I love Christmas so I'm kinda sad that the two have never really come together (Kung Fu Panda Holiday doesn't count). I'd hoped to find at least one good example to write about, as we move into the festive period, but I guess since most martial arts films come from Buddhist countries and Christmas is a Christian holiday, I was destined for disappointment.

I did briefly consider making one up with the aid of Photoshop, but wasn't sure I could get away with it so, alas, The 25th Advent Chamber Of Shaolin is not to be. For what it's worth, I'd got as far as an apprentice monk named Ho, fighting his way through 25 'doors' of a giant temple designed to resemble an advent calendar.

New Star Trek Movie Teams Quentin Tarantino and J.J. Abrams

New Star Trek Movie Teams Quentin Tarantino and J.J. Abrams
Get ready for some incredibly unexpected, but possibly amazing news, sci-fi fans. Quentin Tarantino, the man behind movies like Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill, is developing a Star Trek Movie with J.J. Abrams, the man responsible for the most recent reboot of the beloved franchise. Reportedly, Tarantino came up with a great idea for a new Star Trek movie and Paramount is getting behind it in a big way. What's more is that, if things go well, Tarantino will direct this new Star Trek movie. Here's what Deadline has to say about it.

"Sources said that Tarantino has come up with a great idea for a Star Trek movie at Paramount. After sharing his idea with J.J. Abrams (who himself is busy prepping Star Wars Episode IX), I've heard the plan is to assemble a writers room of scribes who'll hear Tarantino's take and begin to put together a movie.

I'm Your Biggest Fan! - Reeves, Gerwig, and Chance

By Salim Garami

What's good? Apologies because I don't have much to say or talk about this week, except remark on how I'm still in a pretty pleasant mood moving out of Thanksgiving weekend and into the holiday season.

And part of what prolonged my pleasant mood was to find an admittedly 2-year-old video of movie star Keanu Reeves on promotional tour promoting John Wick in Japan discussing his admiration for martial arts film legend Sonny Chiba (of The Street Fighter or Kill Bill fame), influencing his physical choreography and style. Lo and behold, Chiba was in the studio ready to meet with Keanu and the Matrix star is suddenly starstruck to meet him and begins waxing rhapsodic over Chiba's work. Seeing such a household star in the industry be taken aback by the presence of figure that certainly isn't as well-known internationally as Reeves brought a smile to my face.

Why Kesha Really F*cking Deserved to Be Nominated For Album of the Year

Image Source: Getty / Kevin Mazur This week, the Recording Academy announced the nominees for the 2018 Grammy Awards. With so much good music in the past year, it came as no surprise that the competition was as fierce as the categories were packed. And while those who did receive nods absolutely earned their keep, many artists were left out of crucial categories, and others were left off the list altogether. Suffice it to say, many fans are not pleased. And sure, there are many artists who deserved more, but nothing left me more disappointed than the Academy's failure to recognize Kesha's 2017 album, Rainbow, in the album of the year category. Granted, Kesha wasn't completely snubbed by the Grammys this year. The singer received a best pop performance nomination for "Praying," and Rainbow was nominated for best pop vocal album, but it's not enough. I wanted more! From concept to execution to cultural relevance,

Harvey Weinstein and Uma Thurman At the Kill Bill: Volume 2 premier in 2004.

There are no more pleasant words, if there were ever any to begin with, between Harvey Weinstein and Uma Thurman. As you can note from this picture of the two of them at the Kill Bill: Vol. 2 premier in 2004 she appears to be less than thrilled by his touch despite her smile. Sorry folks, you can spin it any way you want to, but a clenched fist such as that when someone’s touching you doesn’t signify that they’re liking it all that much. Plus, Harvey looks like he has a pretty firm grip on her wrists and might

She said she feels it’s important to “take your time, be fair, be exact,” and then wrote “Stay tuned.”

Uma Thurman Breaks Silence on Weinstein: He Doesn't Deserve a Bullet
Uma Thurman has officially broken her silence on Harvey Weinstein. Last month, the actress said that she would say more regarding Weinstein, who worked with her on some of her early big movies, like Pulp Fiction, when she was "less angry." She's still angry, but in a social media post on Thanksgiving, the actress said that she has also been sexually harassed and that Weinstein "doesn't deserve a bullet."

While wishing her Instagram followers a happy Thanksgiving, Uma Thurman decided to finally open up a bit about her experience with sexual misconduct in Hollywood. She made use of the popular #metoo hashtag that many people used in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal to spread awareness of sexual harassment. While she didn't detail her experience, she did not mince words when speaking ill of Weinstein, who she feels is getting the slowly served fate he deserves. Here's what she had to say.

Uma Thurman Lashes Out at Harvey Weinstein: "You Don't Deserve a Bullet"

Uma Thurman Lashes Out at Harvey Weinstein:
Uma Thurman is grateful for a lot of things in 2017—chief among them, the downfall of Harvey Weinstein. She's shared credits with the disgraced producer in seven movies, including her Academy Award-nominated role in Pulp Fiction and Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill, Vols. 1 and 2, and after the first wave of sexual misconduct allegations against him came out in October, Access Hollywood asked Thurman how she felt about them. "I don't have a tidy soundbite for you, because I have learned, I am not a child. And I have learned that when I've spoken in anger, I usually regret the way I express myself," she said at the time, carefully choosing her words. "So, I've been waiting to feel less angry, and...

10 Things About Pulp Fiction You Never Knew

10 Things About Pulp Fiction You Never Knew
It's a certified cinema classic and one of the most quotable movies ever. Two years after Reservoir Dogs, video store clerk turned auteur Quentin Tarantino turned out another masterpiece in Pulp Fiction, the 1994 movie that rescued John Travolta from the pop culture waste bin via a now iconic performance, matched in creative and artistic firepower by Uma Thurman, Bruce Willis, Tim Roth, Harvey Keitel, Christopher Walken, Eric Stoltz, Rosanna Arquette, Amanda Plummer, Ving Rhames, and of course, Samuel L. Jackson as the soul searching hit man Jules. Pulp Fiction still regularly plays in midnight showings at the writer/director's own New Beverly Cinema. Today we look at 10 things you never knew about Pulp Fiction.

Matt Dillon was almost Butch.

Originally Quentin Tarantino conceived of the "palooka" pugilist played by Bruce Willis as a younger up and coming boxer. He envisioned Matt Dillon in the role. But after the actor reportedly took too long to decide,
