Why Freddy Got Fingered Isn't the Bomb Everyone Remembers

Why Freddy Got Fingered Isn't the Bomb Everyone Remembers
At the height of his fame, Tom Green was allowed to make his first standalone movie as a leading man. But by all accounts, 2001's Freddy Got Fingered was a substantial bomb, and decimated his future in film. Case in point, he hasn't been in one for a long while. But as Tom Green sees it, the movie didn't bomb. In fact, according to him, it was a financial success and could have done a lot better in theaters had it not be rated R. He has his own theory on why the numbers weren't bigger. He places the blame on Crocodile Dundee.

People probably haven't been thinking much about Freddy Got Fingered. It enjoys its own limited cult cache, and it made the news in early 2016, when a man was arrested for not returning his VHS rental of the asinine comedy after 14 years. But the movie has pretty much

Robert Rodriguez Says Casting Rose McGowan in ‘Grindhouse’ Was an F-U to Harvey Weinstein (Exclusive)

Robert Rodriguez Says Casting Rose McGowan in ‘Grindhouse’ Was an F-U to Harvey Weinstein (Exclusive)
Robert Rodriguez says he knew about Harvey Weinstein’s alleged sexual assault of Rose McGowan and accuses the mogul of burying the release of “Grindhouse” out of spite. Rodriguez and McGowan were in a relationship from 2006 to 2009, and the director tells Variety in a statement that he was inspired to cast McGowan as a “bad ass” character in the film as a way of getting back at her alleged assailant.

McGowan has accused Weinstein of raping her in 1997 while she was appearing in “Scream,” a horror hit that was released by Miramax, his former company. Dozens of women have accused Weinstein of assault and harassment. His accusers include Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Mira Sorvino, and Cara Delevingne.

Rodriguez worked with Miramax, and later the Weinstein Co. for years, primarily releasing films through Dimension, a genre label run by Harvey’s brother Bob. Films he made for the companies include “From Dusk Til Dawn,” “Spy Kids,” and “The Faculty

The New Golden Age of Studio Science-Fiction is Upon Us

The New Golden Age of Studio Science-Fiction is Upon Us
“Blade Runner 2049” is going to struggle to make it past the $100 million mark at the domestic box office, hardly the response Warner Bros. was looking for given the film’s estimated $300 million production and marketing budget. In a way, the odds were always against “2049” given that its predecessor was also a financial disappointment and only went on to become a cult classic with a very specific demographic of moviegoers. “Blade Runner” is no multi-generational favorite a la “Star Wars” or “Jurassic Park.”

But while the sequel is a box office dud, it’s unquestionably a huge step in the right direction for studio filmmaking.

Robert Rodriguez Calls Harvey Weinstein ‘Truly Disgusting’ and Rose McGowan Has Something to Say About That

Robert Rodriguez Calls Harvey Weinstein ‘Truly Disgusting’ and Rose McGowan Has Something to Say About That
Add pioneering indie filmmaker Robert Rodriguez to the list of former Harvey Weinstein associates now condemning the fallen media mogul. Rodriguez released a statement to Deadline:

“I find the behavior of Harvey Weinstein truly disgusting, both what he did and how he covered his tracks, and it makes me wonder how many others can’t come forward and tell their full story because of legal and personal intimidation. His repulsive behavior was an abuse of power. Thankfully, he’s now discovering what true power is.”

Rodriguez has a long history with Weinstein, starting with 1995’s “Four Rooms,” which was distributed by Miramax, and then franchises such as “From Dusk Till Dawn,” “The Faculty,” “Spy Kids,” and “Sin City,” which came out through the Weinsteins’ Dimension Films label.

However, TWC also released Rodriguez’s “Grindhouse” in 2007. That film starred his then-girlfriend, Rose McGowan, who is among the scores of women who

Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez has spoken out about Harvey Weinstein’s sexual harassment allegations.

Rodriguez has a long history with Weinstein’s company Miramax and was previously in a relationship with Rose McGowan, who said she was assaulted by Weinstein in 1997.

“I find the behavior of Harvey Weinstein truly disgusting, both what he did and how he covered his tracks, and it makes me wonder how many others can’t come forward and tell their full story because of legal and personal intimidation,” Rodriguez said in a statement obtained by Variety. “His repulsive behavior was an abuse of power. Thankfully, he’s now discovering what true power is.”

Rodriguez worked with the Weinstein’s and Miramax on a number of his films, including “The Spy Kids” series, “Roadracers,” “Four Rooms,” “From Dusk Til Dawn,” and “Sin City.”

Bob Weinstein Takes Reins as Embattled Brother Harvey Takes ‘Indefinite Leave’

Bob Weinstein Takes Reins as Embattled Brother Harvey Takes ‘Indefinite Leave’
Bob Weinstein, co-founder and co-chairman of Weinstein Co. and Miramax, has long been overshadowed by his older brother Harvey, even when his Dimension Films label was producing most of the profits through commercial hits such as the “Scream,” “Scary Movie” and “Spy Kids” franchises.

Now, in a sudden turn of events, Bob Weinstein is attempting to wrest control of the Weinstein Co. as his high-profile sibling fights for his professional life amid allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior stretching back decades. A scathing New York Times story published Thursday reported that eight settlements have been paid to alleged victims, including actress Rose McGowan, over the past two decades.

On Friday evening, the TWC board confirmed that Harvey Weinstein has been placed on “indefinite leave” and that a law firm has been hired to investigate the allegations. Bob Weinstein and chief operating officer David Glasser will jointly run the company in the interim. It
