Clint Eastwood Is Returning to Acting
Clint Eastwood is one of those rare Hollywood stars who is a legend both in front of and behind the camera. While he's best known to most audiences as an actor, with decades of iconic performances, but he has also established himself as one of our finest filmmakers as well. In recent years, the multi-hyphenate has focused his energies more on filmmaking and less in acting, with his last on screen performance coming in his 2012 baseball movie entitled Trouble With the Curve, where he played an aging baseball scout. During an appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, the Hollywood icon suggested that he eventually will make his return to acting.

Variety attended a master class being put on by the actor-filmmaker at the Cannes Film Festival, where he discussed a variety of topics. The filmmaker stated that he does miss performing "once in a while but not often," while hinting

Newswire: William Shatner will have a Senior Moment in new rom-com

  • The AV Club
William Shatner is boldly going where only so many actors have gone before: Variety reports the Star Trek stalwart has just boarded an indie rom-com called Senior Moment. In what sounds like an homage to both Top Gun and Space Cowboys, Shatner will play a retired Navy pilot who also happened to test aircraft for Nasa. But retirement can’t clip this maverick’s wings, as he zips around town in a little hot rod (hang on, we’re not at the rom-com part yet.) The film’s being directed by Giorgio Serafini, the helmer of such, um, lighthearted fare as Game Of Death starring Wesley Snipes and the forthcoming The Executioners. We assume there’s a meet-cute nestled somewhere in all that bloody revenge, making Serafini very much the right guy to direct a movie about a twilight-years romance.

Shatner’s character will be busted for speeding as part

Directors' Trademarks: Clint Eastwood

  • Cinelinx
Directors’ trademarks is a series of articles that examines the “signatures” that filmmakers leave behind in their work. This month, we’re examining the trademark style and calling signs of Clint Eastwood as director.

Clint Eastwood became an american film star in the 1960’s thanks to his acting performances in a number of western films. As he began to branch out with new roles in front of the camera, he sought out to have more creative input into the types of film projects that he would be involved in. One way he was able to accomplish this was by creating his own production company which eventually allowed him to work behind the camera as director. His first film as director was 1971’s Play Misty For Me, which was well received by critics and did well at the box office. HIs second film as director was High Plains Drifter (1973), in which he also starred.

The Hollywood Reporter has caught wind of a new, independent Ronald Reagan biopic picking up steam and today, it’s found its director.

According to the report, it is Soul Surfer and The King’s Daughter helmer Sean McNamara that will take point on the political picture, one that’s set to recount the “40th president’s life as chronicled by a Kgb agent who was assigned to follow him during the early days of the Cold War, when the future president was vehemently anti-Communist while running the Screen Actors Guild.”

Simply titled Reagan, THR notes that Howie Klausner (Space Cowboys) is attached to the pen the script – mining material from Paul Kengor’s pair of biographies – and though there’s no mention of who will step into the Oval Office as Ronald Reagan, we understand that Disney breakout David Henrie (Wizard’s of Waverly Place) is on board to

Deep Impact Vs Armageddon is not the only time similar movies have landed around the same time...

Usually, a competing project is poison for a studio. Especially in the era now where a blockbuster costs the national budget of a small country to get out into the world, you don't want to be up against a film with similar subject matter.

Yet this keeps happening, time and time again. Even now, there are two live action Jungle Book movies in various stages of production, for example. And let us not forget when K-9 and Turner And Hooch once did battle...

But how have the movie showdowns of old turned out? And are there any instances where everyone's a winner?

Er, not many as it happens...
