Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s ‘We’re Wolves’ Hasn’t Even Been Written Yet

Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s ‘We’re Wolves’ Hasn’t Even Been Written Yet
Spoof films haven’t been funny since Scary Movie, mostly because they focus too much on pop culture. Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s hysterical What We Do in the Shadows plays a lot of inside baseball, which is why it’s a home run, especially for horror fans. The mockumentary follows a documentary team filming the lives of a group […]

‘Mudbound’ Finally Hits Netflix Next Month, Plus Music and Film Documentaries

‘Mudbound’ Finally Hits Netflix Next Month, Plus Music and Film Documentaries
Fall is upon us, and with it a fresh new crop of Netflix movies to curl up with when the weather starts to turn. Next month’s most exciting addition to the streaming service is “Mudbound,” the Southern World Ward II epic from up-and-comer-turned-force-to-be-reckoned-with Dee Rees. Netflix sealed the biggest deal of this year’s Sundance Film Festival when it paid a whopping $12.5 million for “Mudbound,” setting a high bar for the drama. Balancing out the heavier fare are classic comedies like “Men In Black” and “Scary Movie,” as well as “Field of Dreams” and “42” for the baseball lovers.

The fresh crop also includes a bevy of critically acclaimed documentaries, such as “Eventual Salvation,” “Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary,” and “Cuba and the Cameraman.” Jim Carrey’s creative process gets a deep dive in “Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond,” which includes never-before-seen behind the scenes footage from Milos Forman

‘Get Out’ is a Serious Oscar Contender, and These 5 Scenes Prove It

‘Get Out’ is a Serious Oscar Contender, and These 5 Scenes Prove It
Warning: This story contains spoilers for the movie “Get Out.”

When “Get Out” premiered in a secret midnight slot at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, nobody could have predicted it would become a cultural phenomenon. The $4.5 million Blumhouse production was billed as a satiric horror movie about race, directed by former “Key & Peele” sketch comedian Jordan Peele in his feature-length debut, and a cursory reading of those details suggested a wacky spoof of the “Scary Movie” variety.

Instead, Peele had made a genre-defying look at race relations in America, merging the interracial dynamics of “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?” with an outrageous B-movie premise worthy of George Romero. That premise — which finds wealthy white liberals using hypnosis and brain surgery to turn black people into their slaves — skewered the notion of a post-racial America from multiple directions at once, setting aside more obvious targets to unearth some of the worst

American Vandal: profound, moving & highly recommended

Gabriel Bergmoser Oct 16, 2017

American Vandal, out now on Netflix, is much more than just a true crime TV spoof. Here's why it deserves a place on your to-watch list...

True crime documentaries, for all their popularity, come with controversies. Questions about the bias and ethics of the journalism that underpinned series like Making A Murderer or Serial raged around their releases, the internet swiftly becoming permeated with think pieces arguing for or against the moral merits of the show in question. Earlier this year S-Town, not strictly a true crime series despite taking its cues from the storytelling style of one, starkly divided people about the ethics of how it represented its fascinating central character, John B.Macklemore, whether series host Brian Reed had any right to make public the revelations he unearthed. A couple of years ago, Jay Wilds, the star witness in the case against Serial subject Adnan Syed,

Bob Weinstein Gets Emotional on "Depraved" Harvey, Saving the Company and His "Waking Nightmare" (Exclusive)

Bob Weinstein Gets Emotional on
For nearly 30 years, Bob Weinstein has lived in the shadow of his older brother Harvey Weinstein. While Harvey, 65, was the very public face of Miramax and then The Weinstein Company from Sundance to Cannes to Hollywood, palling around with stars and schmoozing Oscar voters, Bob, 62, has served on TWC’s board and tended to Dimension, their genre label, turning out movies like the Scream and Scary Movie franchises, that routinely made more money than all but Harvey’s biggest hits.

Now, in the wake of the dozens of allegations charging Harvey with three decades of sexual harassment, abuse and...

Bob Weinstein Takes Reins as Embattled Brother Harvey Takes ‘Indefinite Leave’

Bob Weinstein Takes Reins as Embattled Brother Harvey Takes ‘Indefinite Leave’
Bob Weinstein, co-founder and co-chairman of Weinstein Co. and Miramax, has long been overshadowed by his older brother Harvey, even when his Dimension Films label was producing most of the profits through commercial hits such as the “Scream,” “Scary Movie” and “Spy Kids” franchises.

Now, in a sudden turn of events, Bob Weinstein is attempting to wrest control of the Weinstein Co. as his high-profile sibling fights for his professional life amid allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior stretching back decades. A scathing New York Times story published Thursday reported that eight settlements have been paid to alleged victims, including actress Rose McGowan, over the past two decades.

On Friday evening, the TWC board confirmed that Harvey Weinstein has been placed on “indefinite leave” and that a law firm has been hired to investigate the allegations. Bob Weinstein and chief operating officer David Glasser will jointly run the company in the interim. It
