Hollywood’s Below-the-Line Workers Anxious About New Tax Plans

As a professional juggler, Michael Rayner has a lot of work-related tax deductions each year, including $700 for the cheeseburgers he spins atop parasols, 30,000 travel miles and $220 for liability insurance, just in case one of the pins or flaming torches he flips into the air should somehow stray into the audience.

His wife, actress and voiceover artist Moira Quirk, also has a wealth of business-related deductions, the most significant of which is the 10% commission she pays her agent. And they write off 25% of the mortgage and expenses for their North Hollywood house for their respective home offices, which include a recording booth for her and rehearsal and juggling supply storage areas for him.

Now, the massive tax bills passed by the House and the Senate (429 and 479 pages, respectively) earlier this month have thrown the future of these write-offs into question, casting a cloud of fear and uncertainty over the financial fates of Rayner and other workaday entertainment pros. The

75 Years of Golden Globe Best Series Winners

75 Years of Golden Globe Best Series Winners
2018 marks the 75th anniversary of the Golden Globes, and a lot has changed since the original 1943 awards. Take television, for instance. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association didn't even recognize the smaller screen in the beginning. In fact, the first series to be awarded were My Three Sons and What's My Line? in 1962. The television categories continued to evolve after that. In 1963, the HFPA broke out the drama and comedy categories for Best Series. However, the organization went back to selecting a single winner from 1965 to 1969. All in the Family, The Golden Girls and Sex and the City are some of the most awarded series. All in the Family took home the prize four times—winning...

Did Jax Taylor Get Another Woman Pregnant While Cheating on Brittany Cartwright?
Ah, another season at Sur. The rosé is flowing, friendships have fallen apart, Jax Taylor has started a sex scandal and our patron saint Lisa Vanderpump wonders why the bloody hell she’s hired these endlessly entertaining hot messes.

When Monday’s Vanderpump Rules season 6 premiere begins, the battle lines among the witches of WeHO are already redrawn: Scheana Marie isn’t speaking to Katie Maloney or Stassi Schroeder, because apparently it’s 2013 again.

“I had made a comment comparing the amount of friends Katie and I have to someone, and it got back to Katie that I said she has no friends.

She's Gotta Have It Nails Why We Need More Depictions of Black Female Sexuality

  • BuzzSugar
Spike Lee's latest jaunt is an explosive reboot of his 1986 film She's Gotta Have It. In the sexy Netflix update, Lee really dives into the characters he created over 30 years ago in a 10-episode series that soaks in every inch of Brooklyn while telling the stories of the melanin-rich characters who live there. Even so, truly not enough words can be said to describe the show's main character, Nola Darling, whose sexual exploits are just as timely as ever. Nola is a living embodiment of the direct opposition to any negative stereotypes ever spoken about black people and, especially, black women. She's arguably the heroine all women need and an accurate representation of the millennial woman, which is nothing short of refreshing. RelatedBlack Women Are an Integral Part of a New Era of TV, and It's Absolutely F*cking Necessary She shamelessly has four lovers (aspiring rapper Mars Blackmon,

She’s Gotta Have It's DeWanda Wise: ‘Our bodies are being policed'

The star of Netflix’s adaptation of Spike Lee’s groundbreaking film talks about working with the feted director, Sex and the City and the black female gaze

DeWanda Wise has the kind of relaxed self-confidence that is infectious. She feels so good about herself, that she makes everyone else in the vicinity feel good too. As she laughingly tells the story of her first “general” with Netflix – a sort of informal industry chat – it sounds, at first, disastrous. They were scoping her out for a role in She’s Gotta Have It, Spike Lee’s 10-part TV update of his own groundbreaking debut feature film. Wise was well aware of the 1986 film, which tells the story of Nola Darling, a young Brooklynite artist who openly rejects monogamy, choosing to date three different men at once. She knew nothing of the logistics of Netflix’s remake plans, however. “They were

‘Divorce’ Season 2 Trailer: Sarah Jessica Parker Plays The Dating Game

Created by comedic powerhouse Sharon Horgan (Amazon‘s “Catastrophe” — watch it) and starring two long time beloved actors with Sarah Jessica Parker and Thomas Haden Church, the first season of “Divorce” didn’t bring the hype that HBO seemed to be betting on. With Parker back on the channel that brought her to the spotlight with the immeasurably inspiration “Sex and the City” (its legacy somewhat tarnished due to the ill conceived film spin offs), it should’ve been a sure fire bet, drawing in both her older crowd, fans of the series, and newbies who were intrigued in seeing an “American Sweetheart” type play someone with a bit more of a foul tongue.

Blair Underwood Brings Romance to Audible -- Listen Now! (Exclusive)
Blair Underwood has long been heating up the screen with roles on L.A. Law (which featured TV’s original “hunks,” as he puts it) and Sex and the City, when he romanced Miranda (Cynthia Nixon). Now, the actor is lending his voice to Audible Romance, a new subscription service offering unlimited access to steamy stories and performances, including Underwood’s narration of Midnight Untamed by author Lara Adrian. He’s joined by the likes of Jesse Metcalfe and Dermot Mulroney, who perform novels by Nora Roberts, Sylvia Day and more.

“You're actually articulating something that can be very racy, of course, and risqué. But it's actually kind of fun,” Underwood says of narrating Midnight Untamed, the sizzling standalone story of love lost and found. In order to get in the right mood while performing, he prefers to have the recording booth lights dimmed, “so you can use your imagination.”

But the Quantico star’s provocative performance should come as

‘Outlander’ Review: Claire and Jamie Deal With Superstition On the High Seas in Tempestuous Episode
[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for “Outlander” Season 3 Episode 9, “The Doldrums.”]

Unrequited, Requited Love

Blame Fergus and his new “wife,” blame seasickness, blame superstition or blame another twist of fate. Whatever the object of your blame, this week marked another episode of unrequited love — at least in the physical sense — for the show’s two leading characters. As Claire and Jamie headed out to sea in search of young Ian they were forced to sleep in separate quarters, with barely enough privacy for Jamie to puke in peace, let alone get it on with his wife.

Sure, all of that didn’t stop the pair from eventually having (a very literal) quickie during a celebrated rainstorm on deck, but since barely any clothes came off and there was no foreplay to speak of, it doesn’t exactly count. Not when stacked up to some of this season’s more epic love scenes, at any rate. Considering these two will now be
