Quentin Tarantino’s 9 Strangest and Most Surprising Movie Projects
When you think of Quentin Tarantino, classic films like “Reservoir Dogs,” “Pulp Fiction,” and “Django Unchained” certainly come to mind. But what about the critically reviled “Saturday Night Live” sketch adaptation “It’s Pat”? Or the Michael Bay Alcatraz action movie “The Rock”? Tarantino’s fingerprints have been all over the movies ever since his breakout debut in 1992, and some of his projects are way more bizarre than others.

12 Best Films & TV Shows Starring Bruce Campbell

New Line Cinema

Bruce Campbell is the greatest b-movie actor of all time.

Think about it: can you name another indie actor with a CV like his? He has been a regular in some of the lowest-rated television series of the past 20 years. He played “Soap Opera Actor On TV” in the Coen brothers’ Fargo. He stole the show as the voice of Captain Shuggazoom in Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go! He starred in a series of Old Spice adverts in which he performed a spoken word version of Duran Duran’s Hungry Like The Wolf. He even appeared as the Surgeon General Of Beverley Hills in John Carpenter’s epic Escape From… Erm… L.A.

For some reason though, Bruce has never really caught the breaks that his acting ability, comic timing and giant chin should have generated. He remains relatively unknown beyond his solid cult audience, despite

TV Review: From Dusk Till Dawn (Episode 2: Blood Runs Thick)

*As always, these From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series reviews will feature quite a few spoilers, so you’ve been warned*

While the pilot episode of El Rey’s From Dusk Till Dawn TV series did a great job of establishing their version of the Gecko brothers and Earl McGraw (and introduced viewers to the character of Freddie), episode two gave us the new interpretations of the Fuller family. Originally played in the film by Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lewis and Ernest Liu, in the TV series, the roles of Jacob Fuller and his kids Kate and Scott, are now played by Robert Patrick (T2, A Fire In The Sky), Madison Davenport and Brandon Soo Hoo.

Following the death of his wife, former minster Jacob is in the middle of taking his kids on a long due road-trip, and in episode 2, we’re introduced to a new subplot involving Kate’s

15 Nauseating Horror Sequels

The flavor of bile is unmistakable. There just isn’t anything that tastes quite like it. And you know it when it comes on: The belly rumbles, the esophagus lurches within, and you battle back the slimy liquid that threatens to spew forth from your lips.

It’s a nasty experience. We all hate that sensation so we’re taking measures at Dread Central to help prevent such a situation from occurring.

See, there are horror sequels out there that are so horrifically bad they somehow trigger something in our internal systems... and the belly begins to rumble. We wish you no stomach troubles here, and we certainly wish the taste of bile on no man or woman. So we’re going to provide you with a list of sequels to avoid at all costs because if you check these out, you’ll be searching for the toothbrush in no time!

‘T2′s Robert Patrick & More Join ‘From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series’

Having received a press release earlier in the month, we reported on the early casting on the small-screen transition of Robert Rodriguez’s 1996 genre-bending exploitation classic From Dusk Till Dawn. D.J. Cotrona was named as Seth Gecko, the role originally taken by George Clooney. Zane Holtz as his criminal brother Richie Gecko (portrayed by the hit film’s screenwriter Quentin Tarantino). Jesse Garcia and Don Johnson were also named in the recurring roles of Texas Ranger Freddie Gonzalez and Sheriff Earl McGraw respectively.

In addition, we can now confirm Terminator 2 actor Robert Patrick (who previously led the straight-to-dvd sequel From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money), along with Madison Davenport and Brandon Soo Hoo, will play the Fuller family. These were the unlucky trio taken hostage by the criminal Gecko brothers - Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lewis and Ernest Liu in the original - and forced to head to notorious Mexican meeting-point The Titty Twister.

Robert Rodriguez developing From Dusk Till Dawn TV series

It looks like the bloodsuckers of True Blood and The Vampire Diaries will be getting some competition on the small screen. We've already seen the first trailer for NBC's upcoming 10-part Dracula 'retelling' earlier this week, and now Deadline has revealed that Robert Rodriguez's El Ray Network is to partner up with Univision Networks for a TV series based upon From Dusk Till Dawn.

Directed by Rodriguez from a screenplay by Quentin Tarantino, From Dusk Till Dawn was released in 1996 and starred George Clooney and Tarantino as two outlaw brothers who kidnap a family (Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lewis and Ernest Liu) en route to Mexico, where they happen upon a bunch of bloodthirsty vampires at a remote brothel called the Titty Twister. The film also featured Salma Hayek, Cheech Marin, Tom Savini, Danny Trejo and Michael Parks, and went on to spawn two direct-to-video follow-ups, From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money

Robert Rodriguez’s El Rey Network Will Bring From Dusk Till Dawn To TV

Spanish-language network Univision have announced that they intend to bring From Dusk Till Dawn back…as a TV show. The network, which is aimed primarily at Latin Americans, have teamed up with Robert Rodriguez’s El Rey Network to revive the vampire romp.

This won’t be the first spin-off for Rodriguez’s cons-on-the-run caper. The original 1996 film, scripted by Quentin Tarantino, spawned two straight-to-video sequels. From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money and From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman’s Daughter were mediocre successes critically and financially.

Little else was revealed about the direction the series might take or who is being circled to star. The original film starred George Clooney, Harvey Keitel, Quentin Tarantino and Juliette Lewis. Desperate to get over the border into Mexico, Clooney and Tarantino’s criminal brothers, Seth and Richard Gecko, hijack and hide in Keitel’s family Rv. Once over the border,

Review: Hostel: Part III

  • DailyDead
No horror fan is excited to hear that the next installment of their favorite franchise is going to be a direct-to-video release. Most of these films are cheap cash-ins that lack any kind of plot, talented actors, or an experienced director. When it was revealed that Hostel: Part III would be a direct-to-video effort, fans were understandably skeptical, but this film attempts to break mold and succeeds on multiple levels.

To mix things up from the first two films, Hostel: Part III moves the Elite Hunting Club to Las Vegas and why not? Out of all the cities United States, Las Vegas is arguably the best place to set up shop. There are plenty of tourists to kidnap, bored millionaires who need new ways to spend their money, and plenty of open land to hide your establishment.

The film starts out similar to The Hangover and features a group of

'Hostel III' Set Visit - Part One

'Hostel III' Set Visit - Part One
Four years after Hostel: Part II, the franchise that helped to define the torture porn sub-genre returns with direct-to-video Hostel: Part III, hitting stores December 27th, 2011. For anyone sick of that sweet Christmas cheer, the latest Hostel promises some stomach-turning bloodshed to help you get back to the dark side.  Series creator and director of the first two films, Eli Roth, is uninvolved with the latest entry, helmed by longtime Sam Raimi cohort Scott Spiegel (From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money). The locale also shifts from Slovakia to Sin City, though producers probably should have given some consideration to setting the film right where it was being shot, in an economically devastated...

Exclusive Interview: Scott Spiegel talks Hostel: Part III

  • DailyDead
Hostel: Part III will be released on DVD next week and I recently had the opportunity to speak with director Scott Spiegel about the film. For those unfamiliar with Scott’s work, he’s no stranger to horror or the Hostel franchise. He served as producer on both Hostel and Hostel: Part II, was co-writer of Evil Dead 2 and has directed Intruder and From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money.

Scott and I talked about moving the Elite Hunting Club to Las Vegas, Eli Roth’s earlier idea for a new Hostel film, my favorite death scene from the movie, and the possibility of Hostel: Part IV.

**Spoiler Warning- While the interview is mostly spoiler-free, the interview does discuss death scenes and minor plot items**

Was the idea for Hostel: Part III something you pitched to Sony or did they approach you?

Scott Spiegel: They came to me.

Exclusive: Dread Central Visits the Set of Hostel Part III

It was back on Friday, September 17, 2010, that I flew to Detroit, Michigan, for a set visit of director Scott Spiegel’s then-filming Hostel Part III (which releases direct-to-dvd via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on December 27th). As my flight descended toward Detroit Metro and I looked through the plane’s windows at the city below, the metropolis seemed a sadly appropriate location to film the third installment in the historically bleak Hostel series.

The gray skies and dormant smokestacks and brick buildings set beneath it effortlessly communicated the economically ravaged Slovakia in which the preceding films took place, and as I would find, my set visit would touch me deeply, more for the ravaged state of this once great American city than the blood the filmmaker would spill in it, however.

With Michigan then offering a 42% tax rebate (higher at the time than any other state’s film incentive program,

Hostel: Part III and Painting Sin City Red: A Movie Review

Director: Scott Spiegel.

Writers: Michael D. Weiss and Eli Roth.

Hostel: Part III is the latest in a franchise that was labelled "torture porn," by one reviewer. There is less torture in this second sequel and more prostitutes, double-dealings and betting on murder instead. To release on DVD December 27th, Hostel: Part III is a fun time spent in Las Vegas with four friends out to have fun. Well, one friend is out for murder, but three out of four searching for good times is not bad. A tense thriller, this latest picture will satisfy most horror fans while those searching for "torture porn" will be left saying: "where is the bloody beef?"

Mike (Skyler Stone), Justin (John Hensley), Carter (Kip Pardue), and Scott (Brian Hallisay) meet up in Las Vegas after giving their wives or significant others the slip. Soon, they meet two call-girls, Nicki (Zulay Henao) and Kendra

Hey, Where Did All The Gore Go?: A Review of ‘Hostel: Part 3’

There is something to be said about the Hostel series in reference to how and when it came out. Before Hostel, there was nothing quite like it in theaters. Sure, there was Saw a year earlier, but it was not the sex comedy of horror films that Hostel encompassed. Eli Roth has a particular style when it comes to directing. He creates these almost light hearted college films that, at some point derail into the land of insanity. I am not a huge Roth fan, but I appreciate what he has done and continues to do, and that is to make entertaining horror films. There didn’t seem to be a need for a sequel to the original Hostel, but Roth kept a storyline together and did alright in that respect. He didn’t want anything to do with the third installment (except maybe grab a check) and so his friend,

'Hostel III' Trailer Heads To Las Vegas

Director Eli Roth's 'Hostel' was one of the early films after the original 'Saw' that helped to define a horror sub genre that critics would scornfully dub "torture porn." The film and its sequel both featured Americans taking refuge at foreign hostels and coming across unsavory characters who want nothing more than to pull their fingernails off. Because of the name recognition, a third straight-to-video 'Hostel' is on its way. Roth is not involved, not even as producer, and the setting of Las Vegas doesn't look to fall in line with the theme of predators using hostels as their hunting ground. Here's the official synopsis: "High stakes gambling takes on a sinister new meaning in this third chapter of the terrifying Hostel series. While attending a bachelor party in Las Vegas, four friends are enticed by two sexy escorts to join them at a private party way off the Strip.
