‘Early Man’: 25 Things to Know about Aardman’s Stop-Motion Sports Comedy

I’ve always been utterly charmed by the films of Aardman Animation, and I’m always eager to see what they’ll do next. From the Wallace & Gromit films to the sly Chicken Run to even their CGI stuff like Flushed Away and Arthur Christmas, their movies feature a warm blend of comedy and heart that always make for a memorable experience. Their latest film, Early Man, seems to follow in that line, and earlier this year, I got to visit Aardman to see the development of the movie. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Early Man, …

Ferdinand review

From the studio behind the Ice Age films comes Ferdinand, a funny, sensitive film with a good heart. Here’s our review…

Part of the legend surrounding Munro Leaf’s 1936 children’s book The Story of Ferdinand is that it was written, start to finish, in less than 40 minutes. It’s a short story, 30 illustrated pages and maybe 600 words, about a Spanish bull who prefers to smell flowers than to fight.

Blue Sky Studio’s feature-length adaptation has, naturally, taken a great deal longer. The project was first announced in 2011 and originally scheduled for a spring, then summer release this year. (It’s finally opening this month against Star Wars: The Last Jedi, just as its previous non-Ice Age film, The Peanuts Movie, opened against The Force Awakens.)

Why the delay? Story, says Carlos Saldanha, also the director of Rio, who has been with the studio almost from the start.

Man Rents 2 IMAX Theaters for $40K Just to Prove Ex-Girlfriend Wrong
A jealous ex-boyfriend who couldn't afford to buy movie tickets while he was dating his then-girlfriend 7 years ago, recently bought over $40,000 worth of movie tickets to spite her. The man's girlfriend dumped him because he was poor and he decided to take a stand for all of the penniless men all over the world by pulling one of the best lover's revenge stunts in recent memory.

Hu Xiaoyun spoke out through Weibo, which is China's version of Twitter to explain the situation and confirms that he was dumped because he had no money. He said, "I was so poor when we were in our fourth year at college in 2007 that I could not afford just two film tickets," which in turn,

‘Early Man’ Trailer: The Director of ‘Chicken Run’ Takes Us Back in Time
The folks at the British animation studio Aardman are responsible for beloved movies like Chicken Run, Shaun the Sheep, and Wallace and Gromit, and while CG has largely won out as the dominant form of animation for most major movies, Aardman’s sticking with claymation for a decidedly old school look. That’s especially appropriate for their new film Early […]

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie Review

  • HeyUGuys
Author: Hannah Woodhead

Children’s movies are brilliant. They’re the first experiences of cinema that many kids have, introducing you to a world where anything’s possible. I fell in love with going to the cinema after I saw Chicken Run for the first time when I was six, and even now films aimed at younger audiences, from Moana to Ponyo and My Life as a Courgette continue to delight and inspire me. Captain Underpants, well, not so much.

Whilst the film features a who’s who of Hollywood comedy royalty, from Kevin Hart to Ed Helms, they’re wasted on this bland cash-in on the popular book franchise – you can hear them now in interviews, saying how nice it is to be in a movie their kids can watch. Only Nick Kroll really had a chance to shine as the nefarious Professor Poopypants, and he did ham it up magnificently,

Film Review: ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’

Film Review: ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’
In the original “Planet of the Apes” movies, Caesar and his simian co-stars were buried beneath layers of prosthetic makeup, severely limiting their ability to emote. In Fox’s recently rebooted “Apes” trilogy (three and counting), the computer-generated chimps appear more human than the homo sapiens — which is clearly what the series has been working up to. In purely technical terms, director Matt Reeves more than achieves that goal, although it requires rigging the screenplay and reducing the human characters to crass two-dimensional stereotypes in the process.

Dawn has risen, and “War for the Planet of the Apes” picks up at a point where the world has been divided into two camps: those deeply impressed by all that directors Rupert Wyatt and Reeves have done with the franchise, and those who couldn’t care less. If you already find yourself on the side of the “Apes” enthusiasts (a fittingly militant lot), then “War” will likely be a

John Powell interview: scoring Bourne, Hans Zimmer, Face/Off and more

Sean Wilson Jul 6, 2017

Composer John Powell chats to us about scoring Jason Bourne, working with John Woo, his upcoming work and more.

Few contemporary film composers have made an impact quite like John Powell. From animation to drama to his immediately influential, propulsive Bourne soundtracks, Powell's energetic, emotional and heartfelt blend of symphony orchestra, electronics and percussion make him a singular voice.

So 10 years after I saw The Bourne Ultimatum on the big screen and being electrified by your score I'm sat here talking to you, which is a real privilege. I wondered was there a particular film score that inspired you to become a film composer?

5 Secrets Behind Aardman’s Stop-Motion Animation, from ‘Wallace & Gromit’ to ‘Early Man’

5 Secrets Behind Aardman’s Stop-Motion Animation, from ‘Wallace & Gromit’ to ‘Early Man’
Aardman co-founder Peter Lord grabbed a ball of clay before his conversation last week at the Fmx International Conference on Animation, Effects, Vr, Games and Transmedia in Stuttgart, Germany, and slowly molded a puppet of Morph, Aardman’s first creation, while discussing 40 years of stop-motion glory at its animation studio in Bristol, England.

From “Wallace & Gromit” to “Creature Comforts” to “Shaun the Sheep,” Aardman will be firmly dedicated to the hand-crafted technique of stop-motion as long as audiences continue to embrace it. For Lord, who co-founded Aardman with school chum David Sproxton before adding animator-director Nick Park to the creative team, it’s all about the comedy of manners and empathy.

Here are Lord’s five rules for stop-motion animation:

1. Never forget the importance of Ray Harryhausen.

When Lord was ten years old, he saw “Jason and the Argonauts” and was so amazed at the brilliance of stop-motion animator Ray Harryhausen
