Ellen DeGeneres wasn't afraid to put Kourtney Kardashian and Kendall Jenner in the hot seat. Fantastic Fest 2017 Review: Brawl In Cell Block 99 Repeatedly Punched its Way into My Action-Loving Heart

  • DailyDead
When we meet Bradley Thomas (Vince Vaughn) in Brawl in Cell Block 99, things could not be worse for our protagonist. A former boxer who has struggled to turn his life around by making an honest living has just lost his job due to the economy, and as he makes his way home early to lick his wounds, he discovers that his wife, Lauren (Jennifer Carpenter), has been having an affair. Not content with the direction his life is headed, Bradley decides to go back to being a drug runner for his dealer pal, Gil (Marc Blucas), but things go south after a pick-up goes badly, and Mr. Thomas finds himself being incarcerated for his crimes after he refuses to snitch on his boss.

All this seems like a rather run-of-the-mill set-up for a grungy revenge-fueled actioner, but what follows in Cb 99 is anything but predictable, as writer/director S. Craig Zahler

Newswire: The Sandlot director has a new baseball movie ready to go

For people of a certain age or generation, The Sandlot is one of the finest baseball movies ever made (yes, we’ve seen The Natural). The film unfolds over one glorious summer in the suburbs, where a bookish kid (Tom Guiry) befriends a bunch of noisy, baseball-loving boys. There are some cool adults involved, including James Earl Jones, Karen Allen, and Denis Leary, but the movie is mostly about the boys’ friendship, which is solidified when they plot to retrieve a Babe Ruth-signed baseball from their scary neighbor’s yard. It’s super rewatchable and quotable—just stop and think about how often you utter “You’re killin’ me, Smalls” when you’re exasperated—but writer-director David M. Evans is stepping up to the plate with a new feature.

The new film, Junior Americans, will center on “the first, last and only time a National American Little League team

I'm excited about this! The movie is based on a true story and he describes that story on his blog, saying:

Based on a true story about the first, last and only time a National American Little League team was coached by kids the same age as the players - 14 year-olds.

Why I Watch The Ref Every Christmas Eve

Why I Watch The Ref Every Christmas Eve
Every family has their tradition when it comes to the holidays. Ever since I was a kid, we would celebrate with my father's side of the family on Christmas Eve, and then with my mother's side on Christmas Day, a tradition that has remained unchanged to this day. There is one tradition that we added on Christmas Eve night, maybe a decade or so ago, after my younger twin brothers and I would come back to my mom's house after spending the day with our father. We would watch the obscure 1994 R-rated Christmas comedy The Ref. Not It's A Wonderful Life or A Christmas Story or A Miracle of 41st Street, but an underrated and underseen comedy starring Denis Leary, post-Remote Control, Kevin Spacey, pre-Oscar win and Judy Davis, post-Oscar nomination. While The Ref may not be as revered as those aforementioned movies, I will always watch The Ref every Christmas Eve,

Fear, Inc. Review

Fear Inc. introduces an idea that’ll have most horror fans licking their lips, but ultimately fails to stick multiple landings. Director Vincent Masciale attempts to out-meta heavyweights such as Cabin In The Woods, but his self-serving plea to genre lovers comes across as more desperate than inspirational.

Characters talk in dialogue from past genre classics, making Luke Barnett’s screenplay seem poser-ish by incessantly focusing on past classics instead of investing in a righteous fake company. Fun horror appreciation (a Mimesis inspiration) unravels as “reveals” keep on whiffing, until you’re sick and tired of hitting the restart button. Not everyone can be Shyamalan right out the gate, and – unfortunately – when tricks aren’t also treats, everything falls apart.

Lucas Neff stars as Joe Foster, a horror movie buff who has become bored with the predictability of life. Girlfriend Lindsey (Caitlin Stasey) hopes to motivate her slacker lover, but

Kendall Jenner Admits She Once Had a Crush on Justin Bieber: ''Not Anymore, Though!''

Kendall Jenner Admits She Once Had a Crush on Justin Bieber: ''Not Anymore, Though!''
Not even Kendall Jenner was immune to the Bieber Fever. The 20-year-old caught up with W magazine and wasn't shy in admitting she once crushed on Justin Bieber, though he most certainly wasn't her first choice (that goes to Mike Vitar aka Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez from The Sandlot). "I was more into the Disney kids. Like, I think I had a crush on Zack and Cody [Dylan and Cole Sprouse] from Suite Life of Zack and Cody," she explained, before adding, "Justin Bieber was like the pop star of my time. I feel like I must have had a 12-year-old crush on him." Before you get any ideas, however, she quickly noted, "Not anymore though!" Speaking of crushes,...

Your’e Killing Me Smalls! The Sandlot Midnights This Weekend at The Tivoli (and Saturday at Noon)

“Anyone who wants to be a can’t-hack-it pantywaist who wears their mama’s bra, raise your hand!”

The Sandlot (1993) plays this weekend (August 19th and 20th) at The Tivoli at midnight as part of their Reel Late at the Tivoli midnight series. It will also screen at noon on Saturday.

The Sandlot is a beloved film that over the last 23 years has gained quite a cult following thanks its joyous nostalgia that’s along the lines of A Christmas Story. Unlike many movies that claim to be family films, The Sandlot actually is a “family film”. Kids like it for the situations and dialogue, while adults relate to it as well. Young Scotty Smalls (Tom Guidry) moves into a new town and desperately wants to fit in with the rest of the neighborhood boys and in the summer of 1962, a bat and a ball is all it takes. A

Best Baseball Movies

In the midst of March Madness and with the Kentucky Derby around the corner, the first pitch of baseball season is almost here.

A quote from Field Of Dreams best describes America’s national pastime, “The one constant throughout the years has been baseball.”

To mark the start of the 2016 season, here’s our list of the Best Baseball movies.

The Bad News Bears

Considered by some to be the best baseball movie ever, the film celebrates its 40th anniversary this month (April 7, 1976). In an article from the NY Daily News, one line reads, “It is a movie that someone like the late Philip Seymour Hoffman called his favorite, and one which resonates on many levels today, with all different generations.”

Who are we to argue with greatness?

After skewering all-American subjects such as politics (The Candidate) and beauty pageants (Smile), director Michael Ritchie naturally set his sights on the

A Sandlot Reunion? One Cast Member Is In

Well I know what.s going on my Christmas list this year. One of the beloved Sandlot kids is on board for a reunion, and is willing to personally start the Kickstarter Campaign.  In a recent interview with MTV, actor Patrick Renna (our S'mores-pounding buddy Ham from The Sandlot) says he.d be willing to help launch the kickstarter: I.ll meet grandparents with their kids and their kids that all watch it, [so] that would be the one to do on Kickstarter and would probably have a lot of success. Because what we found in doing it is when you have a real fan base or what you.re doing . like Veronica Mars . I think that.s one that.s the most successful. I think a Sandlot one would do pretty darn good, but I don.t know. You want to run it, I.ll do it, how about ...
