Mystery Science Theater 3000: Volume Xxxix Review

Brad Cook reviews Mystery Science Theater 3000 Volume Xxxix…

MST3K Volume Xxxix is a bittersweet release because it marks the end of an era. Yes, this is Shout! Factory’s final new volume of Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes. (They’ll keep re-releasing the old Rhino sets, however.) They say on their site that it’s the “almost certainly, probably definitely, maybe unquestionably final collection of never-before-released episodes,” so maybe there’s still some hope of more volumes in the series. Maybe?

Fittingly, this collection includes the show’s final episode, which skewers the 1968 spy film Diabolik, which was produced by Dino de Laurentiis. That one probably would have been worthy of a retrospective featurette, but the subject was understandably pushed aside in favor of Showdown in Eden Prairie: Their Final Experiment (10 minutes), which looks back on the making of the final episode.

The series finale sees Mike and the

Twitter Disproves Paris Hilton’s Claim that She and Britney Spears Invented the Selfie in 2006

On Sunday, Paris Hilton announced on Twitter that she and Britney Spears invented the selfie back in 2006, but it didn’t take long before Twitter users began to disprove her claim

“11 years ago today, Me & Britney invented the selfie!” Hilton enthusiastically proclaimed alongside two selfies of the two starlets that served as a receipt for her boast.

However, almost immediately, Twitter users started providing some receipts of their own.

“Liar,” one user wrote alongside a Gif of Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon cozying up to take a selfie with a Polaroid camera in 1991’s Thelma and Louise.

11 years ago today,

Reconsidering ‘Arrested Development’: Why Jeffrey Tambor and David Cross Could Ruin the Show — Opinion

Reconsidering ‘Arrested Development’: Why Jeffrey Tambor and David Cross Could Ruin the Show — Opinion
During a Nov. 15 appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” “Arrested Development” star Alia Shawkat revealed that Season 5 of the cult sitcom had just wrapped filming. Unfortunately, that announcement was sandwiched between two dark media scandals featuring members of the show’s ensemble cast.

The first was a series of tweets from comedian Charlyne Yi on Oct. 15, who accused David Cross (who plays eccentric Tobias Fünke) of making racist comments toward her. Cross’ apology was cynical, blaming the incident on playing a “southern redneck character” that she didn’t understand, and lashing out against social media followers who called him out on the incident. Then came two allegations of sexual harassment leveled against Jeffrey Tambor (“Arrested’s” cruel patriarch George Bluth Sr.), one from a former assistant and the other from a fellow “Transparent” actress.

Arrested Development” has always been a gonzo comedic sandbox — even though it’s packaged like a semi-traditional sitcom,

Who doesn't love a private elevator ride? That's what Larry David wants to know when he bumps into Miley Cyrus in the lobby of NBC Studios.

After putting it together that their casual bump-in is because they are both attached to Saturday's show, two elevators open up at once, and instead of getting in Cyrus' elevator, David opts...

Jerry Seinfeld Has His Regrets About The ‘Seinfeld’ Finale

It’s not just the fans of Seinfeld that had major regrets about the ending of the show, but the namesake of the show as well. Jerry Seinfeld actually felt that they shouldn’t have done the show at all, or should have at least found an ending that could work for the cast and the fans in some way. Too many shows have ended on such a sour note simply because the entire program was canceled, the writers went on strike, or the writers couldn’t come up with anything new so they just quit. The issue with comedy is that having
