‘Trolls’ Leaps from TV to Top of DVD Sales Chart

‘Trolls’ Leaps from TV to Top of DVD Sales Chart
The holiday spirit is gripping DVD and Blu-ray Disc buyers.

A half-hour “Trolls” holiday special, produced by DreamWorks Animation, came out on DVD only a few days after its Nov. 24 broadcast on NBC and promptly debuted at No. 1 on the Npd VideoScan overall disc sales chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc sales, for the week ended Dec. 2.

The same week, three classics shot back into the top 10: Warner’s Elf (2003) at No. 8, Universal Pictures’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (2000) at No. 9, and Warner’s “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” (1989) at No. 10.

And several other Christmas favorites also are racking up brisk sales, including 20th Century Fox’s original “Home Alone” (1990), which rose to No. 11 from No. 16 the previous week; Warner’s “The Polar Express” (2004), No. 15; and Warner’s “A Christmas Story” (1984) at No. 25.

Warner’s “Wonder Woman,” Sony Pictures’ “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and Walt Disney’s “Cars 3” held onto the No. 1, No. 2 and

Did You Know A Christmas Story's Ralphie Also Starred in Elf?
You guys, we may have one of the greatest gifts of knowledge to give to you this holiday season... Remember Ralphie from A Christmas Story? We're sure you do—the slightly awkward, blonde-haired, blue-eyed kid has continued to steal our hearts every time we re-watch the 1983 classic flick. But we just found out something that's blowing our minds...He also starred in another one of our all-time favorite holiday movies: 2003's Elf! He was 12-years-old when he played Ralphie, and apparently he just couldn't grow out of the Christmas spirit! He...

Deathdream

Average fans of A Christmas Story likely don’t know that director Bob Clark had once made creepy horror pictures with Alan Ormsby, but this independent shock effort of the early ’70s still casts a spell of dread. Although Vietnam is never mentioned, the war’s shadow strikes deep into the heart of a small-town family. John Marley and Lynn Carlin lead a fine cast.

Watch This Woodworker Carve A Christmas Story Lamp Of His Own Leg

If you can watch this woodworker make a Christmas Story lamp out of his own leg and not be impressed I’m not sure what else to say. Watching this made me wish for a moment that I was a little more industrious and hands-on when it came to certain projects, but sad to say I could live until I was a thousand years old and never make anything this impressive with my own two hands. That’s why writing about this project is where I flex my skills as I’ll try to give the type of credit that’s due to this

According to Google, This Is the Most Popular Christmas Movie

Image Source: Everett Collection When it comes to declaring the best Christmas movie, some people are likely to have a tough time narrowing it down. After all, few movies are as beloved as the ones you grew up watching while huddled on the couch drinking hot cocoa with your family over the holidays. How can you possibly pick just one? Well, Google has apparently done it for us. Based on search-interest data over the last five years put together by the team at Treetopia, the most popular Christmas movie is . . . A Christmas Story! Now, before all of you Home Alone and Love Actually fanatics hunt me down with pitchforks and sharpened candy canes, this data doesn't necessarily mean it's the be-all, end-all best. It just means A Christmas Story - which actually performed worse at the box office than most of the other films on the list - is the

Fearsome Facts: 8 Things You Didn’t Know About Fright Night (1985)

Fright Night (1985) is to All Hallows’ Eve what A Christmas Story (1983) is to X-Mas: an opus which is worthy of its own 24-hour marathon and an ensuing all-night bacchanalia where blood is the life rather than alcohol. Filmmaker Tom Holland’s love letter to vampire films revitalized a subgenre of horror that was sadly […]

NYC Weekend Watch: The Non-Actor, Bertolucci, Aki Kaurismäki & More

Since any New York City cinephile has a nearly suffocating wealth of theatrical options, we figured it’d be best to compile some of the more worthwhile repertory showings into one handy list. Displayed below are a few of the city’s most reliable theaters and links to screenings of their weekend offerings — films you’re not likely to see in a theater again anytime soon, and many of which are, also, on 35mm. If you have a chance to attend any of these, we’re of the mind that it’s time extremely well-spent.

Ana Gasteyer Reveals There’s a New Hanukkah Song in ‘A Christmas Story Live!’ (Exclusive)
Hanukkah will be part of A Christmas Story Live!, Fox’s upcoming live musical event.

“They’ve written a really fun Hanukkah number. The music is fantastic,” Ana Gasteyer told Et at the Double Standards concert in New York City on Sunday benefiting women's rights, health and empowerment. “Even though A Christmas Story is clearly a Christmas story -- it’s fun to have a Hanukkah song join the ranks of the Christmas songs in the musical. I think everybody felt like it can really be a holiday experience.”

The Saturday Night Live alum will play Mrs. Schwartz in the production, inspired by the 1983 holiday classic feature film A Christmas Story and Ben Pasek and Justin Paul’s 2012 Broadway adaptation. It follows the exploits of youngster Ralphie Parker, who spends most of his time dodging a bully and dreaming of his ideal Christmas gift: a "red Ryder air rifle." ‘Krampus Unleashed’ Review

Stars: Amelia Brantley, Bryson Holl, Caroline Lassetter, Taylor Buckley, Tim Sauer, Emily Lynne Aiken, Daniel Link, Tori Osborn, Michael Harrelson, Linda Cushma, Travis Amery, Dujhan Brown, Juliet Rose Serrato, Kerry Keepers, William ‘Bill’ Connor | Written and Directed by Robert Conway

An in-name only sequel to writer/director Robert Conway’s 2015 Dtv flick Krampus: The Reckoning (review here), Krampus Unleashed once again hangs an unrelated story onto the tale of the Christmas anti-Santa which, at the time this film was made and originally released, in 2016, was riding high off the success of Michael Dougherty’s bigger-budgeted Krampus and an appearance in the portmanteau horror A Christmas Story.

But that was two years ago… Now? Krampus is probably best remembered here by a bunch of unsuspecting supermarket shoppers, who picked up the previous two terrible Dtv films (The Reckoning and The Christmas Devil), as a disappointment and something to be avoided. Which
