James Gunn says Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 won’t feature any resurrections

Warning. Spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 follow…

Over the years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has developed a bit of a reputation for fake deaths, with the likes of Agent Coulson, Bucky Barnes, Pepper Potts, Loki and Nick Fury all thought to died at one point or another, before making their triumphant and (mostly) unscathed returns.

As a result, death has become pretty meaningless in the McU – although it seems the trend will stop with Yondu, as Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has confirmed that he’s not a fan of resurrecting characters, and that he has no plans to cheapen Yondu’s sacrifice at the climax of Guardians Vol. 2.

“What bothers me is when a character is given a beautiful or powerful death in popular culture, that fulfills a character arc… and then is brought back in a sequel or comic or later episode through some usually ridiculous means because,

Review: Transformers: The Last Knight

  • Comicmix
The Transformers mythology is an eons-long inter-galactic tale that is rich in its own history. We have the rise of intelligent techno-organic lifeforms, a split between rival points of view, and a struggle for supremacy. All along the way, for reasons that are never spelled out in their history, Earth has been of particular interest to the Autobots and Decepticons.

That much has powered countless comics, animated episodes, and four live-action feature films. Rather than marvel at the wonders of the cosmos or reveal to us why the planet is important, the fifth installment, The Last Knight, retrofit the Knights of the Round Table to an already convoluted and, frankly, boring film series. This film, out now on disc from Paramount Home Entertainment, more or less retreads the first four films, mixing returning humans and Transformers and adding in a few new figures to freshen things, and yet, no one cares.

Blu-ray Review: Goofy ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ is Worth a Look

Chicago – Knock me over with a feather kids, but I enjoyed “Transformers: The Last Knight.” Maybe it was in comparison to the others or maybe director Michael Bay has beaten me into submission, but this one had the right story elements and casting to make it work, with exceptions of course. It’s goofiness is its charm, and it was released on Blu-Ray/DVD on September 26th, 2017 (Digital HD already available).

Rating: 3.5/5.0

The two essential things that made the film more tolerable was Anthony Hopkins and Laura Haddock, two Brits who brought some performance parts that made me laugh in their earnestness – Sir Anthony was particularly bizarre. The story is tied into the Arthurian legend, and begins on a knights-of-the-round-table battlefield, and somehow that gave a bit more understanding to what was going on, which was decidedly lacking in previous films. The rest will be pretty familiar to the Transformers’ universe and fan base,

James Gunn confirms that Glenn Close was cut from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Despite being initially announced as reprising her role as Nova Prime for the sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy’s Glenn Close was absent from this year’s Vol. 2.

However filmmaker James Gunn has revealed during a fan Q&A that Close was originally set return as the head of the Nova Corps, and that “she had a cameo we didn’t use.”

Close’s Nova Prime is the second cameo to have been cut from the film after Nathan Fillion’s Simon Williams; sadly, neither of these appeared on the Blu-ray bonus features.

It is possible we’ll see the return of Glenn Close’s Nova Prime in Avengers: Infinity War, given that the Nova Corps are currently in possession of the Power Stone, which Thanos is going to need to complete his Infinity Gauntlet.

James Gunn suggests Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will arrive in 2020

We’re a little over a year and a half away from the culmination of Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the release of the as-yet-untitled Avengers 4, and as yet, we’ve got very little in the way of an idea as to what comes next for the McU.

We do know that things will get underway in July 2019 with a sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, and there’ll be an increased emphasis on the cosmic side of the universe, spearheaded by James Gunn and the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. (which will reportedly set the stage for the next 10 to 20 years of the McU, according to Gunn)

As yet, there’s been no official word as to when we can expect the next Guardians movie, but posting on his Facebook page, Gunn has told a fan that Vol. 3 will be out “in a little under three
