10 Sitcom Pilots Inspired by Real People: Which Will You Watch?

Last week, in the wake of Eddie Huang's complaints that he felt ABC's "Fresh Off the Boat" was distorting and softening his childhood experiences, this column examined how hard it is for any biographical or autobiographical sitcom to be true to the life of its source and still be a crowd-pleasing primetime network entertainment. You'd think, after decades of trying, TV writers and network programming executives would be aware of this.

Nonetheless, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the networks have no fewer than ten such sitcom pilots in production, as the first episodes of potential 2015-16 primetime series. Some are based on the lives of already famous entertainers, some on the self-referential stand-up comedy routines of not-quite-famous comics, and some on memoirsts who've lived interesting lives.

Here's a rundown of these pilots, with a look at who these shows are about, who's starring in them, what the series might be like,

Battle Creek: Does This Procedural Boast CBS' Better Odd Couple?
If you haven’t been able to catch an episode of CBS’ The Odd Couple reboot yet, fret not: The network uses many of the same elements in its newest procedural crime drama, Battle Creek, which debuted Sunday.

There’s the disheveled curmudgeon — in this case, Detective Russ Agnew (Dean Winters, Law & Order: Svu). There’s the well-dressed know-it-all: Special Agent Milton Chamberlain (Josh Duhamel, Las Vegas). And there’s a series of unfortunate circumstances that bring the unlikely duo together, forcing them to be a team in spite of their differences.

Good Wife Recap: Cash Twenty-Two

Good Wife Recap: Cash Twenty-Two
Alicia Florrick has a gay brother who happens to be one of her closest confidantes — an inconvenient truth my brain struggled mightily to suppress during this week’s installment of The Good Wife.

After all, to acknowledge the Alicia-Owen bond while big sis made not a peep of protest during a homophobic rant by a potential fat-cat campaign donor (a fantastically nasty Ed Asner) raised some painful questions: Has a heated run for state’s attorney cracked Alicia’s moral compass? Has her desire for victory and thirst for power turned her into a “bad person”? Or has Alicia always

“It was a big relief to get it early,” executive producer Lori McCreary says with a laugh.

“Huge,” chimes in fellow Ep Barbara Hall.
