‘Lego Movie’ Builds More Box Office Gold, Sets Date for a Sequel

Everything is still awesome. Even after three weeks of release, Warner Bros. The Lego Movie continues to dominate the counted beans of the movie world. This weekend, the masterfully built CG-animated adventure tale not only had to endure the eruption of Pompeii, it also had to deal with a very motivated action film from Kevin Costner in 3 Days to Kill. Neither were up to the task, leading The Lego Movie to once again reign supreme, building its domestic box office receipts to $183 million in three weeks. And you know what that means: sequel! In response to the good box office news, Warner Bros. is celebrating by announcing a release date for a Lego Movie sequel. As The Hollywood Reporter explains, “the studio announced that the untitled movie will hit theaters on May 26, 2017, the beginning of the long Memorial Day weekend. Warners is being vague in terms of saying whether the film will be a proper sequel, or

DVD Review: 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2'

  • CineVue
★★★☆☆ Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (2013) follows on from the phenomenal success of the surreal 2009 original, which came out of nowhere to challenge animation hotshots Disney Pixar and Dreamworks. Adapted from the beloved children's book by Judi and Ron Barrett of the same name, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs followed inventor Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) and quick-witted weathergirl Sam Sparks (Anna Faris) as they attempted to fix the inexorable shower of food created by Flint's 'Diatomic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator'. However, things are about to get tasty.

The HeyUGuys Interview – Cloudy 2 Directors Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn

‘It’s our bus to drive – it’s not our bus…’

It’s a good start to the interview with Messrs. Cameron and Pearn. I suggested that the success of the first Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs film, and their long history with the series, should have meant more control over the sequel. This causes a big laugh, but it’s evidence of the camaraderie of the vast team behind the film.

If the pull-quotes slapped on the side of buses are to be believed the rule with sequels is ‘bigger and better’, and in creating Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 directors Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn had a whole world to explore.

Stepping into the shoes of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, currently riding high on their latest (Lego) Movie’s success, is no easy trick, however the creative quartet were able to craft a new

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 picks up immediately after the end of the first and we get to see the aftermath of the havoc caused by, Flint Lockwood’s turing water into food invention, the Fldsmdfr. Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 Blu-ray Review

It’s a shame that some still feel like animated films are primarily made for children. The advent of Pixar and films like Shrek and The Fantastic Mr. Fox have more than proved otherwise, and in 2009 directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller delivered a wonderfully goofy animated take on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs that appeals to adults and kids alike. That film reveled in its offbeat sense of humor, and while Lord and Miller stepped back into executive producer roles for the sequel, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is a worthy follow-up that delivers a hefty dose of adorable buoyed by colorfully inspired designs and a heartfelt theme of friendship. Read my review of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 on Blu-ray after the jump. The Film Picking up immediately where the first film left off, directors Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn’s sequel finds

'Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2' - a bland buffet (Ians Movie Review)

'Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2' - a bland buffet (Ians Movie Review)
Film: "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2"; Voiceovers by: Bill Hader, Anna Faris, James Caan, Will Forte, Kristen Schaal, Terry Crews, Andy Samberg, Neil Patrick Harris and Benjamin Bratt; Director: Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn; Rating: **1/2

With its appealing spread of animated "foodimals", animals made entirely of food, in an array of contrasting colours, "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2" is an entertaining tale of recognition, adventure and commitment that would appeal to kids.

The film takes off from where its first edition, released in 2009, left. Nevertheless, it is not a must to view the earlier edition, since the trail of events are explained and the film is clear on its own.

The narration trails an.

This time around, Lockwood discovers that he didn’t actually destroy his machine in the original film. Instead, his invention is now creating animal-food hybrids, “foodimals!” Lockwood and his friends have to embark on a new adventure to save the world again, but this time from hungry tacodiles, shrimpanzees, hippotatomuses, cheesepiders and other foodimals.

The $115 million-grossing sequel got high praise from critics, 71% approval, according to Rotten Tomatoes. As Entertainment Weekly‘s Keith Staskiewicz wrote: “The animation is inventive and elastic, the dialogue zippy and shamelessly punny, and the tone lighthearted and fun,

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs took many by surprise. What everyone expected to be a half-baked pile of forgettable tosh turned out to be among the best computer animated movies ever made with its quick humour, well-written characters, gorgeous designs and an interesting story. So successful was the film in terms of critical and movie-goer praise that Sony decided to push forward a sequel, only this time there isn't a book to be based upon.
