‘Dante’ Review (Image Comics)

Written by Jason Ning, Matt Hawkins | Art by Darick Robertson | Published by Image Comics

Dante is one of the most impressive titles I have read in some time (I feel like i’m saying this a lot lately). The sign of a good book for me is that it has me gripped right from the very first page. Matt Hawkins and Jason Ning’s casual use of phrases like “I have something to confess, sometimes I kill people” and of course a few well placed curse words, really grabbed me. I got a couple pages in and started to feel like I had seen this before, like it was gonna be the hit-man with a heart of gold cliche. All my worries were alleviated when you find that yes, our main character has family but he also has the mind to scram if needed (you know like Dexter).

Comic Book Review: Dante, One-Shot

If Matt Hawkins is writing a book, most likely I am reading it. The one-shot issue of “Dante” (also co-written by Jason Ning) is no exception. As the book beings we are quickly thrown into Dante’s world, where he is a top assassin. But Dante is living a double life, as he also plays the role of a loving husband and father in a “normal” family setting. During the job, he quickly realizes that he has been set up. While attempting to get away he accidently kills a young Asian boy, this ends up having grave consequences as the boy’s grandmother curses him which causes

Image announces supernatural one-shot Dante

Writer and Top Cow COO Matt Hawkins, co-writer Jason Ning and artist Darick Robertson are teaming up for the gritty supernatural thriller one-shot Dante, which is set for release in January.

“When Cryptozoic and Strange Turn asked if I’d be interested in working on a book with Darick Robertson, I had to pinch myself at first to see if I was dreaming it,” said Hawkins. “Darick is one of those artists that writers dream of collaborating with, and working with him was one of my most fulfilling experiences in comics thus far!”

“Working with Matt, Jason, and the whole Cryptozoic team was an excellent experience,” added Robertson. “The script is moody and gritty, which fit nicely into my artistic wheelhouse. The colors are by the ever incredible Diego Rodriguez, and I believe this is some of our best work to date.”

Dante was a family man with a wife
