The six-episode limited series from brothers John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle explores true-life events leading up to and including a 51-day siege in 1993 in Waco, Texas, between the FBI, Atf and the Branch Davidians, a religious sect led by David Koresh.
Friday Night Lights grad Taylor Kitsch plays Koresh, who faced off against FBI negotiator Gary Noesner (Michael Shannon). The standoff culminated in a deadly fire on the sect's compound that killed 76 men, women and children,...
“We are thrilled to have John in this part. The reason this casting is such promising news is not only because the two actors involved are powerhouse performers, but because the nature of the source material lends itself to the delivery of a balanced examination of the tragic events. Written by John and Drew Dowdle (No Escape), with John Dowdle in the director’s chair, the series will be based on a combination of two books: Stalling For Time: My Life As An FBI Hostage Negotiator by Gary Noesener, and A Place Called Waco by former cult member David Thibodeau.
Titled Waco, the miniseries has been written by John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle (No Escape) and will see Kitsch portraying cult leader David Koresh, with Shannon playing FBI negotiator Gary Noesener. It will detail the events from both sides of the 51-day siege, which ultimately left four Atf agents and 82 cult members dead.
“This event series will explore the truth behind this tragedy and speaks directly to the heart of the current issues between citizens, law enforcement, and the media,” said The Weinstein Company as part of the official announcement.
