‘People of Earth,’ ‘Wrecked,’ ‘The Guest Book’ Renewed at TBS
TBS comedies “People of Earth,” “Wrecked,” and “The Guest Book” have all been renewed for new seasons, the network announced Wednesday.

The network’s summer series join TBS’ previous 2017 renewals, including the dysfunctional family comedy “The Detour” and police procedural spoof “Angie Tribeca.”

“Since rebranding this network just two years ago, we have renewed 100% of our scripted originals, which have all generated impressive audience growth in an environment that’s seeing mostly declines,” said Brett Weitz, executive vice president of original programming for TBS. “Our shows are connecting with fans and we’re going to keep making these genuinely funny comedies with the best creators in this business.”

Executive-produced by Conan O’Brien and Greg Daniels along with creator David Jenkins and showrunner Norm Hiscock, “People of Earth” centers on a support group for alien abductees in Beacon, N.Y. In the show’s second season, StarCrossed’s members must reckon with the arrival of FBI Agent

People of Earth,” TBS, Monday, 10:30 p.m. (Critics’ Pick)

[This] year, “People of Earth” smartly expands on the histories of all of the alien “experiencers,” and Jeff and his lovelorn co-worker Don (Bjorn Gustafsson) face new challenges from their superiors as well. There may be one or two too many storylines in Season 2 (Nunez and Tracee Chimo’s romantic storyline feels a little thin, for example), but the cast has gelled extremely well. Ana Gasteyer is consistently razor-sharp as the leader of the support group, and Gustafsson and Michael Cassidy, who

TV Review: ‘People of Earth’ Season 2 on TBS

TV Review: ‘People of Earth’ Season 2 on TBS
There’s nothing large about the satisfying and humane “People of Earth,” except the distance its alien characters have traveled to this planet full of mixed-up humans. It’s not a show that traffics in big moves or over-the-top jokes, but it’s all the more enjoyable for its devotion to dry, character-driven comedy.

And despite being about a bunch of people who think they’re alien abductees — and who found out in Season 1 that they actually have unwillingly spent time with extraterrestrials — the use of the word “humane” isn’t incorrect. Like “Superstore,” “Parks and Recreation,” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” — all shows on the resume of Greg Daniels, one of the TBS comedy’s executive producers — “People of Earth” typically views its characters through a warmly bemused lens. As I noted in my review of the first season, “People of Earth” recalls episodes of “The X-Files” that successfully united comedic and bittersweet modes (without the try-hard flop

Dogs Are Love - Trailer for True Story Film 'The Stray' About a Cute Dog

"One dog can change everything." Purdie Distribution has revealed a trailer for a new dog movie called The Stray, about a stray dog named Pluto who changes the lives of one family. The full cast of mostly unknowns includes Sarah Lancaster, Michael Cassidy, Scott Christopher, Connor Corum, Jacque Gray, Cory Dangerfield and Coral Chambers. I'm a big, big time dog lover, and I'm always on the lookout for films about dogs, but this doesn't look that good. Oddly, the dog barely shows up in the trailer that much. It's all about the people. This looks about as cheesy and mediocre as A Dog's Purpose, the other dog movie this year. At least the doggie looks cute, with his charming different colored eyes. That's about all I can say. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Mitch Davis' The Stray, direct from YouTube: ‪The Stray tells the true story of how a stray dog,

People Of Earth Season 1 Review

Four episodes were provided prior to broadcast.

It doesn’t take long for TBS’s new half-hour sci-fi comedy/drama to get weird. In fact, it’s before the end of the show’s pilot, when one of its alien denizens – which might be a hallucination, or might be an actual reptilian invader bent on humanity’s destruction – appears out of nowhere in the car of series lead Ozzie (Wyatt Cenac) and asks, “don’t get weird, okay?”

That’s one of many played-straight oddities that nets People of Earth its biggest moments of high concept laughs, and more often than not (in the first four episodes made available for review, anyway), the show is far more hit than miss. There’s a straightforward slant to its story – bigwig New Yorker slums it in a small town and quickly becomes invested in its peculiarities – but what People of Earth succeeds

TV Review: ‘People of Earth’

TV Review: ‘People of Earth’
Without any outside help, humans are doing a pretty good job of making a mess of things on this planet, so it’s hard to put alien invasion high on the list of existential threats.

The defanged nature of that premise, long a staple of sci-fi storytelling, accounts for much of the amiability of “People of Earth,” a gentle and modestly pleasing comedy about a support group for alien abductees.

Of course, storytellers have had comedic fun with the premise before, most notably in “The X-Files,” which didn’t always take itself all that seriously. In fact, “People of Earth” could be read as an homage to one of the Fox series’ greatest hours, “Jose Chung’s From Outer Space.” It doesn’t have the poetry of that installment of “The X-Files” — few episodes of television do — but the TBS series also uses alien-abduction scenarios as a vehicle for exploring ideas about connection, loneliness
