Group Nine Media Acquires Production Studio Jash

Group Nine Media, the parent company of popular digital properties Thrillist, NowThis, The Dodo, and Seeker, is bringing a fifth brand into the fold.

Group Nine has acquired Jash, according to The Hollywood Reporter, a comedy production company founded by former Jimmy Kimmel Live! execs Daniel Kellison and Doug DeLuca -- as well as Maker Studios vet Mickey Meyer -- in 2012. Jash was originally conceived as a comedy collective comprising Sarah Silverman, Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim, the actor Michael Cera, and musician Reggie Watts -- and was initially funded through YouTube's now-defunct Original Channels Initiative.

Sex, Drugs & Comedy: How Eric Wareheim Became a Hedonistic Alt-Comic Legend
A few years ago, Eric Wareheim took a photo of his then-girlfriend's naked ass and sent it to an ice sculptor. Wareheim likes to throw raucous house parties "based on different parts of anatomy," he says. "I did one called Black Cock ck light and penis-themed]. Another one was Laser Boobs." The sculptor took Wareheim's photo and used it to carve an enormous ice butt, which became the centerpiece of an ass-focused party called Snow Booty. The sculpture had a canal carved into it that served as a conduit for booze, with its lower opening at the butt hole.

Absurdist comedians Tim and Eric: 'Our show is a trainwreck of a live experience'

The comedy duo recently celebrated the ten-year anniversary of their cult show and talk about finding the funny in the mundane and how they met

For almost two decades now, comedy duo Tim (Heidecker) and Eric (Wareheim) have honed their absurdist and often gross sketch comedy. After a summer of touring and the recent 10th anniversary special of The Awesome Show, they’ve become the kings of out-there alternative comedy, by way of mock infomercials, situational humor, and the occasional song-and-dance routine. The second season of Bedtime Stories, their mock-horror after-hours series on Adult Swim, returns this month to magnify the humdrum tropes of suburban American life, cementing the duo as two of comedy’s most amusing satirists.

The 25 Best TV Comedy Ensembles of the Last 25 Years, Ranked
A great ensemble creates a mysterious bond between a show and its viewers. The chemistry shared on screen brings with it a certain level of comfort.

But to refer to this quality as some kind of supernatural power does a disservice to the men and women who forge it. There is the talent of each individual performer to consider: If any of them falter, the whole dynamic falls apart. It’s a dynamic that requires work, too. Whether it’s bonding in real-life or being a good listener on set, chemistry is a science for these casts; it’s made, not found.

Then there’s the versatility of expanding these connections beyond just one or two cast members, but an entire ensemble of six or so series regulars. The best ensembles work no matter who’s paired up in a scene, and it feels like the TV can barely contain

‘Jon Benjamin Has a Van’: Remembering the News Parody Show That Helped Launch Some of Best Comedies on TV
H. Jon Benjamin is one of the most prolific voice actors working in TV today. As the central character on “Archer” and “Bob’s Burgers,” his growly baritone is as recognizable as it is an instant shot of personality for any character he voices. (Plus, how many actors can claim that their involvement in two shows led to a crossover scene that also doubles as a tribute to David Cronenberg’s “A History of Violence”?)

Six years ago, Benjamin added to his string of title characters, this time playing a fictional version of himself on the criminally short-lived Comedy Central show “Jon Benjamin Has a Van.” Part sketch show, part investigative news team parody, it helped give birth to a wave of comedian-led metashows that yielded some of the best comedies of the decade. It took the “Daily Show” correspondent model familiar to many of the network’s viewers and

During season two, we get to take a short tour of old-school Modena, Italy, with Dev (Aziz Ansari), only to later fall face-first with him onto the concrete of New York City's modern dating world. The season is a bumpy ride, and we are exposed to a range of societal issues; race, religion, the struggles of being gay, and the complexities of dating are just a few that surface. While consuming the 10 bite-size episodes, we are repeatedly urged to take a step back and think about life from other people's perspectives.
