The Television Academy Foundation raised a record breaking $330,000 at the star-studded 18th Annual Emmys Golf Classic on October 30.

Funds raised at the event, co-sponsored by Staples Center Premium Seating, will support the Foundation’s renowned educational programs.

Television stars, entertainment industry executives, Television Academy leadership and corporate partners competed in the day-long golf tournament at the Wilshire Country Club in Los Angeles.

Kino Lorber has acquired the North American rights to Bill Morrison’s “Dawson City: Frozen Time,” about the true history of a collection of 533 reels of film (representing 372 titles) dating from the 1910s to 1920s, which were lost for over 50 years until being discovered buried in a sub-arctic swimming pool deep in the Yukon Territory. The film tells the unique history of a Canadian gold rush town and how cinema, capitalism and history intersect.

“Dawson City” had its world premiere at the 73rd Venice Film Festival and North American premiere at 2016 New York Film Festival. The film also played at the BFI/London Film Festival and the 2017 Rotterdam International Film Festival, and screened Thursday at the TCM

Wesley Snipes, Gene Simmons star in sco-fo thriller. Separately, Open Road dates rom-com Home Again; PBS acquires Steve James doc Abacus: Small Enough To Jail.

Saban Films has acquired North American rights from WWE Studios to John Stockwell’s Armed Response starring Wesley Snipes, Anne Heche, WWE superstar Seth Rollins and Kiss band member Gene Simmons.

The sci-fi thriller, written by Matt Savelloni, follows a team of operatives attempting to discover the fate of a previous unit when they become trapped inside a military compound. Voltage Pictures handles international sales.

The film stars and Dave Annable and is currently in post-production. WWE Studios president Michael Luisi produced with Simmons via their Erebus Pictures banner.

Bill Bromiley, Ness Saban and Jonathan Saba negotiated the deal on behalf of Saban Films.

Saban Films has bought the North American rights to the sci-fi thriller “Armed Response,” starring Wesley Snipes, Anne Heche, Seth Rollins, Gene Simmons, and Dave Annable.

Saban made the deal with WWE Studios, Gene Simmons, and Erebus Pictures. John Stockwell (“Blue Crush”) directed from Matt Savelloni’s script, which follows a team of highly trained operatives who find themselves trapped inside an isolated military compound after its artificial intelligence is suddenly shut down. The crew begins to experience strange and horrific phenomena as they attempt to uncover what killed the previous team.

The film is currently in post-production. It was originally called “Temple” as part of a three-film deal announced in 2015 between WWE and Simmons.

“‘Armed Response’ is a unique story, with the look and feel of a sci-fi epic,” said Saban’s Bill Bromiley. “We’ve been fans of WWE for a long time, and it is great to be partners on this film.

Investigation Discovery Orders ‘The Von Bulow Affair’ Scripted True Crime Series From Ucp

Investigation Discovery is headed deep into scripted territory. The Discovery-owned network has ordered six-part true crime drama “The Von Bulow Affair” from Universal Cable Productions for a 2018 run on ID.

“Von Bulow” is among a whopping 660 hours of original programming that ID has on tap for the 2017-18 frame. The channel that has been the biggest success story in the Discovery family of the past seven years will also offer up its first scripted telepics and a range of docu series.

The channel that thrives on a diet of murder and mayhem has partnered with mystery writer James Patterson on an unusual initiative that will see Patterson write non-fiction books about murder cases covered in ID programming. ID will then turn those books into scripted productions. Patterson’s partnership with ID also includes the “Murder is Forever” true-crime series that debuts later this year.

Investigation Discovery has greenlit a five-part true crime movie series. The first TV film, titled “Final Vision,” will center around the infamous Jeffrey MacDonald murders with Scott Foley starring as the title character.

Foley will portray MacDonald, who was convicted of brutally murdering his pregnant wife and two young daughters in the middle of the night.
