[Note: With the film finally released in the UK, under the new title of Resurrection of Evil, here’s a re-posting of my review of Havenhurst]

Jackie (Benz), a troubled young woman struggling with addiction, is released from rehab and given a second chance with a new job and a furnished apartment at Havenhurst. Guilt-ridden over the loss of her 8-year-old daughter, Jackie is quickly drawn into the mysteries of Havenhurst, in particular the disappearance of apartment 1006′s previous lost soul, a young woman (Harris) she befriended in rehab who vanished without a trace. Aided by a hardened New York police detective (Stamberg) and a lonely foster child (Shouse) who lives under the sadistic shadow of her caretakers, Jackie must not only battle her inner demons… but the very real ones that live within the walls of Havenhurst.

Production wraps on ‘Tales of Frankenstein’

Production has just wrapped in Los Angeles on the horror film Tales of Frankenstein, starring Game of Death’s Mel Novak and Wolverine creator Len Wein in his final film. The movie is based upon four of writer-director Donald F. Glut’s (The Empire Strikes Back novel) short stories published in his book of the same name:

“My Creation, My Beloved,” (a deformed descendant of Victor Frankenstein creates the perfect man and woman), “Crawler from the Grave,” (another Frankenstein descendant’s disembodied, plague-infected arm returns from the grave for revenge), “Madhouse of Death” (a private detective winds up in an old dark house filled with loonies…and a gorilla) and “Dr. Karnstein’s Creation,” (a mad doctor creates a monster in vampire-haunted Transylvania – with gruesomely unexpected results).

Tales of Frankenstein also stars Jerry Lacy (TV’s Dark Shadows), Ann Robinson (War of the Worlds), Beverly Washburn (Old Yeller), John Blyth Barrymore,

Film Review: ‘Havenhurst’

Film Review: ‘Havenhurst’
Recovery just might kill ya in “Havenhurst,” an Ok horror outing with Julie Benz (“Dexter”) as a newly sober woman investigating a friend’s disappearance in the titular rambling Manhattan apartment complex. Ghosts of movies from “The Seventh Victim” to “Rosemary’s Baby” to Tobe Hooper’s “Toolbox Murders” remake haunt the musty halls of a competently crafted meller that never quite finds a distinctive narrative slant or atmosphere of its own. Nonetheless, director-co-scenarist Andrew C. Erin’s film will pass the time tolerably enough for genre fans. Already released in several territories, it opens in eight U.S. cities Feb. 10, simultaneous with its launch on VOD.

Discharged from a rehab facility, Jackie (Benz) is a bit shaky but determined to stay on a straight-and-narrow path, despite lingering guilt over the accidental death of her only daughter, caused by her boozing. She’s even more determined to find out what

Knights of Badassdom (2013)

Written by: Kevin Dreyfuss, Matt Wall

Directed by: Joe Lynch

Cast: Ryan Kwanten (Joe), Steve Zahn (Eric), Peter Dinklage (Hung), Margarita Levieva (Beth), Summer Glau (Gwen), Joshua Malina (Travis), Michael Gladis (King Diamond), W. Earl Brown (Randy), Brian Posehn (Gilberto), Douglas Tait (Abominog)

I’m pretty much going to watch any film called “Knights of Badassdom”. I just am, and probably if you are reading this, you would too. I’m absolutely astounded at how the social stereotypes are melding together little by little, and this film is definitely a testament to that. Remember being the weird kid and only having a handful of equally weird, but loyal friends. That definitely was me, and I couldn’t see it then, but I pretty much had it made. Being weird now is a little more tolerated that it used to be, but

‘Mankind’s Last Stand’ Review

Stars: Adrian Paul, Brandon Auret, Reiley McClendon, Rick Ravanello, Douglas Tait, Joe Reegan, Nic Rasenti, Andy Davoli, Matthew Holmes, Sven Ruygrok, Scott E. Miller, Kenneth Fok, Darron Meyer | Written by Jabbar Raisani, Blake Clifton | Directed by Jabbar Raisani

Jabbar Raisani, a former visual effects maestro, who here turns director – makes his feature debut with a film that mixes a myriad of stereotypes and cliches of the alien invasion genre with the modern war movie (there’s a very good reason the film is described as Independence Day meets Black Hawk Down) in a faux-documentary that sees a camera crew join an elite unit of soldiers at Outpost 37, the most hostile region of what remains of our planet, as they face one of their greatest battles against the “Heavies” alien intruders who, a decade earlier, had invaded Earth with the intention of total annihilation.

Also known as Outpost 37 and Alien Outpost,
