Don’t Expect To See McU Movie Heroes In Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Ever

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was launched in 2013 with much fanfare as a new and vital link in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We were told that the events within would impact upon the films (and vice versa), and most fans anticipated at minimum a couple of cameos from some of the Avengers.

What we actually got, though, were several narrative arcs with little to no connection with the McU. In the end, the connections were limited to the character of Agent Coulson, very brief appearances from Samuel L. Jackson, Jamie Alexander and Cobie Smulders, the consequences of the plots of the Captain America movies and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. locating Loki’s staff in time for the opening of Age of Ultron.

Despite that, the show has been muddling along in its own McU cul-de-sac, having picked up a devoted fanbase that’s seen it recently hit its 100th episode. This is a pretty big milestone,

Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 Review

Two episodes were provided prior to broadcast.

Last season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was its absolute best yet, and for a variety of reasons. The main one being its 10:00 p.m. time slot allowing for darker subject matter ranging from a fully realized Ghost Rider to bloodcurdling androids.

Unfortunately, season 4 ended with a mixed bag of a finale, leaving some of the show’s most loyal fans a bit cold thanks to a lack of resolution for just about every character except for Holden Radcliffe, who did manage to bow out in the best possible way. Aside from a few fun moments, including some thrilling onscreen action with Ghost Rider and Quake tearing through LMDs, “World’s End” didn’t quite live up to its own titular sense of…well, an ending.

Just as the team found its chance to process the aftermath of the Framework, Talbot’s shooting,

With spoilers for season 4, we look at how Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. turned its lengthy run into a good thing instead of a drag...

Warning: this article contains spoilers for Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s season 4 finale, World’s End. It will be re-promoted at a later date for those viewing at UK pace.

22 episodes is a lot to fill, and the first season of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. arguably fell prey to this network-mandated issue. Forgettable filler instalments where the gang investigated a mysterious thing were commonplace, which felt like an excuse to kill time before the main villain of the season – the utterly unmemorable Clairvoyant - showed up.
