In fact, if you were to ask me the highlight of the hour, I’d point not to any pyrotechnics or vexing villain but to Tristin Mays’ performance, as Riley recoiled from shooting The Client at close range, during a struggle for a gun. It added up to just a few moments, but it was a bit of

MacGyver Season 1 Episode 1 Review: The Rising

It was an honest mistake.

I thought CBS’s new MacGyver series was going to be a continuation of the 80s original, as in the new MacGyver would be the old MacGyver’s son/nephew/other relation. But then I saw that dreaded word: reboot.

A reboot means the original deserves a reexamination, so I watched the 1985 pilot (series available on Netflix) to see how much things have changed in MacGvyer-land in 31 years.

The first time we see Angus MacGyver (played by Richard Dean Anderson) in the original, he’s hanging off the side of a cliff “somewhere in Central Asia.”

In the MacGyver Season 1 Episode 1 reboot, a much-younger MacGyver (Lucas Till) is in a tux in Lake Como, using his voice-over to describe sex with his girlfriend, who also happens to be the “analyst” in his ear on his latest mission.

Not exactly the way we are accustomed to

The freshman drama makes clear quite early on that Lucas Till’s Angus “Mac” MacGyver, as an operative for the Division of External Services, is a bit more physical than Richard Dean Anderson’s original mulleted problem-solver, able to handle himself decently in close0quarters combat, nor thinking twice before holding into an airborne jet’s landing gear for dear life. MacGyver Review: With Paper Clips, No Chewing Gum (Yet!), CBS Reboots Mac
When we first laid eyes on Don’t-Call-Me-Angus MacGyver, he was sporting a ridiculous pom-pom hat while scaling a cliff to track down a stolen missile, which he proceeded to defuse using, yes, a paper clip.

Jump ahead almost exactly 31 years, and paper clips prove as handy as ever, as demonstrated multiple times in CBS’ higher-octane reboot (premiering Friday, Sept. 23 at 8/7c).

With Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class) inheriting the role immortalized by Richard Dean Anderson, Mac remains averse to guns, though now he has some pistol-packing muscle at his side,

Which Guest Stars Should Return to Mystic Falls in 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8?
Season 8 of The Vampire Diaries will be the show's last, and speculation about what awaits TV's sexiest supernaturals as they prepare to walk off into an infinite sunset promises to reach fever pitch by the time the series returns for its 16-episode run in October. Executive Producer Julie Plec dropped some hints during San Diego Comic-Con about what fans can expect, and according to the Ep, the series will be returning to some aspects of its season 1 roots.

A whole lot of good and bad guys have come and gone (and come and gone again), so the big question is, who do we hope to see return to Mystic Falls during season 8? Michael Trevino will reprise his role as werewolf Tyler Lockwood, and Tristin Mays, who played Stefan and Damon's great-niece Sarah Salvatore, is scheduled to appear as well. Here are a few other characters who could pop up during
