Social Good Summit Kicks Off Un General Assembly

The Social Good Summit, a unique gathering of world leaders, global activists and influencers in the arts, technology and entertainment, will once again kick off the United Nations General Assembly with a symposium of globally-recognized speakers discussing innovations in media and technology to make the world a better place by 2030.

The summit is Sunday, Sept. 17 from 10 am to 6 pm at 1395 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY and includes:

2017 Athena Film Festival – Report

The 2017 Athena Film Festival premiered from February 9th to 12th at Barnard College in New York. The festival, founded on the idea on seeing more female protagonists in films, celebrated its seventh year by showcasing a town hall meeting with multiple female activists. Along with the highly awaited event, the festival also premiered several female-leading movies, including Little Pink House, Girl Unbound, and Dolores. With such a packed schedule, the festival saw a huge turn out despite the large snowstorm that occurred just hours beforehand.

The festival was founded seven years ago by Kathryn Kolbert (from the Athena Center for Leadership Studies at Barnard College) and Melissa Silverstein (the artistic director of Women and Hollywood) with the original idea of seeing more leading ladies in films. That idea has skyrocketed to showcasing not only films with strong female roles, but also honoring screenplays in the festival’s own Black List,

Actress Carmen Perez joins Lucha Underground

Latin actress Carmen Perez has signed on for a recurring role on Mark Burnett’s Lucha Underground on Robert Rodriguez’s El Rey Network.

The actress, represented by Whitaker Entertainment, is one of the scripted cast members on the hit wrestling TV show now in its second season. Perez’s character is being introduced to the show this week, and is set to be an integral part of the storyline in season 2 and beyond.

“It is such a pleasure to work with such a great cast and crew,” said Perez. “It felt like family. I’m so lucky to be one of the scripted actors on the show.”

Perez, is better known for her role in He’s Just Not That into You and her debut recording album Collective Fantasy.

Ted Turner Talks Getting ‘Fired,’ PBS, CBS Lead News & Documentary Emmy Awards
PBS and CBS led the winners at the 36th annual News and Documentary Awards, held Monday night at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall. But lifetime achievement honoree Ted Turner stole the show with an emotional acceptance speech that recounted his “firing” in 2001 from the company he founded.

“I got phased out,” the CNN founder told the crowd. The management of Time Warner, which acquired Turner Broadcasting in 1996, came to him as his contract was about to end.

“They said your contract is going to be up but we want to give you another one,” Turner said. “They said ‘We’ll give you a million dollars a year.’ I said ‘What will my duties be?’ They said ‘nothing.’ I said ‘you take the million dollars and shove it you know where,’ ” he said.

Turner told the crowd that he misses being part of CNN; “I really enjoyed every moment of it,

Only those scared of being bored to death need fear “Locker 13,” an omnibus of horror stories that could hardly be more tame, talky and tepid, both individually and as a whole. This feature from Arizona collective Brothers’ Ink Prods. — some of its segments originally shot as shorts four to seven years ago — makes its theatrical and VOD bows March 28, with DVD release following April 29. In any format, it’s bound to raise the hackles of any genre fans unlucky enough to pay money in the hopes of some entertainment value.

Cornered with a Full Cast Line-up and Exclusive Stills from the Set

Hunter G. Williams' Cornered has finalized a cast line-up and other participants include Heather McComb (2012: Supernova), Scott Michael Campbell (Stay Cool), and Anya Benton (6 Guns). Principal photography will be ending in the first week of June and now several exclusive movie stills from the production can be seen here which include many of the actors mentioned above.

"The Game: Janette vs. The Stranger - Location - Janettes house. All exits are rigged with explosives, there is only one safe way out. The Stranger will give clues to the correct exit as the fight goes on. The power to the house has been cut. He has given her a gun with two rounds in it, a low powered flashlight, and a knife. The entire house will explode in 45 minutes. The stranger can only try to kill her in the last ten minutes, before that he may only defend himself.
