The Hilarious 40-Year-Old Virgin Reunion You Probably Missed at the Golden Globes

Finally.@kelly_clarkson pic.twitter.com/JeMHwBr7e4 — Steve Carell (@SteveCarell) January 8, 2018 There were quite a few nostalgic reunions at the Golden Globe awards on Sunday night. In addition to the adorable leads from The Fault in Our Stars hugging it out and two unexpected Harry Potter costars sharing the stage, there was also a connection involving the 2005 comedy The 40-Year-Old Virgin. While we wish we could relay a fun story about Jonah Hill reconnecting with those sparkly silver boots, the moment in question actually happened between Steve Carell and Kelly Clarkson. Now before you get all "Um, sorry but Kelly Clarkson wasn't in The 40-Year-Old Virgin!" with me, yes, she was. Well . . . technically. Remember this? Image Source: Universal Pictures All these years Kelly Clarkson has had the infamous scene quoted back to her - in which Carell undergoes an excruciatingly real chest wax on camera and painfully screams out

How TBS Landed on the ‘Cutting Edge’ of Cable Comedy

Kevin Reilly took over as head of TBS just under two years ago and has quickly turned the network into a major cable comedy player. The network recently launched the second season of the Steve and Nancy Carell-produced comedy series “Angie Tribeca,” as well as the plane-crash comedy “Wrecked.” Earlier this year, former “Daily Show” correspondents Samantha Bee and Jason Jones joined TBS with their own high-profile shows, “Full Frontal” and “The Detour.” “We’re in a really cool building cycle as well as repositioning people’s perception of what the network is,” Brett Weitz, TBS’ executive vice president of original programming,

Why 'Angie Tribeca' Is the Absurdist Cult TV Comedy We Need

Why 'Angie Tribeca' Is the Absurdist Cult TV Comedy We Need
Dying is easy, showbiz scripture dictates, and comedy is hard. But slipping into a coma, conceiving and delivering an illegitimate child, ending up in a "love rhombus," and somehow doing all of it with a straight face — that's a different matter entirely. Angie Tribeca burns through all that in the opening minutes of its currently-in-progress second season, compressing a heap of backlogged exposition and harebrained plot twists into approximately 100 seconds.

What's funny is such rapid speed-joking is pretty much typical for this daffy TBS cop comedy produced by Steve and Nancy Carell,

Rashida Jones, Samantha Bee Talk Being at ‘Center of Comedy’ at TBS Panel

Rashida Jones, Samantha Bee Talk Being at ‘Center of Comedy’ at TBS Panel
The new faces of the TBS comedy slate — Samantha Bee, Jason Jones and Rashida Jones — joined Conan O’Brien at an Fyc event on Tuesday at New York City’s New Museum.

Moderated by CNN’s Jake Tapper, the panel highlighted clips from each of the four shows, and hit on topics like gender equality in comedy and handling serious geopolitical issues from a comedic angle. Following the panel, the four stayed to celebrate and socialize at an after-party on the museum’s seventh floor Sky Room.

Since her show “Full Frontal” started airing in February, Bee has already established herself as a leading voice for political satire. On the red carpet before the panel, she told Variety that election coverage will continue full-force, even if it entails unusual living accommodations. “I’m looking forward to going to the conventions,” Bee said. “I’m trying to convince TBS to brand a tour bus for us.

TNT Orders Nail Salon Dramedy Pilot ‘Claws’ from Rashida Jones

TNT Orders Nail Salon Dramedy Pilot ‘Claws’ from Rashida Jones
TNT has ordered a pilot for “Claws,” a nail salon drama from exec producer Rashida Jones, the cable network announced Wednesday.

The project was originally developed at HBO as a half-hour comedy, but with TNT scooping it up, “Claws” has been redeveloped into an hourlong dramedy — a new genre for the network, which has put an emphasis on high-profile drama development lately. Up until now, the cabler’s sister net TBS has been home to comedies for Turner, while TNT has largely branded itself around drama fare.

Jones is a familiar face for the Turner family with her TBS show “Angie Tribeca,” which hails from creators Steve and Nancy Carell. Jones produces and stars in the series, which has landed a second-season renewal.

“Claws” is described as a “midnight-dark, wickedly funny meditation on female badness,” which follows the rise of five diverse Florida manicurists in the traditionally male-dominated world of organized crime.

Review: 'Angie Tribeca' is Surely Best When Binged, But Shirley, You'll Laugh No Matter What

Review: 'Angie Tribeca' is Surely Best When Binged, But Shirley, You'll Laugh No Matter What
Spoofing police procedurals is one thing. Eviscerating them — as the new TBS comedy "Angie Tribeca" does with addictive glee — is another. Shows like "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," "Axe Cop" and even more vicious parodies like "Reno 911" utilize absurd humor to make light of jobs often depicted with the utmost seriousness in TV and movies, but we haven't seen a live action cop comedy as delightfully cartoonish as Steve Carell and Nancy Walls Carell's creation since "Police Squad" went one and done back in 1982. Since then, cop dramas have kept stacking up, making more and more scenarios, lines and characters into cliches — and thus ripe for parody. Rashida Jones and her merry men tackle each and every one of those cliches with such casual acceptance that it would be easy to mistake "Angie Tribeca" as simple. After all, it's only slightly serialized (by today's standards) and extremely consistent in style, tone and presentation.

'Angie Tribeca' and 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia,' Two Tastes of TV's Comfort Food

'Angie Tribeca' and 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia,' Two Tastes of TV's Comfort Food
The measure of "Angie Tribeca" (TBS), a cop-show spoof in the tradition of "Police Squad!," "Sledge Hammer!," and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" (Fox), may be my inexplicable notes on its 10-episode first season, combining — I kid you not — tallies of "smiles," "chuckles," and "LOLs" with choice morsels of the series' manic humor: "That cross-dresser's attacking that baby!" The vomiting man reappears, this time upon seeing a pet ferret. Nice "The Price is Right" joke from the forensic specialist. Read More: "'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' Has Some Weaknesses—and a Secret Weapon" After all, there's no such thing as an "Angie Tribeca" spoiler. Out of context (and, nearly as often, in context), it's nonsense — a gleeful attempt to twist the familiar conventions of the police procedural into comic chaos. Created by Steve Carell and Nancy Walls Carell, ...

Angie Tribeca Season 1 Episode 1 Review: “Pilot”

As an unabashed fan of Hot Shots and the original Naked Gun, it’s safe to say a show like Angie Tribeca falls neatly into my wheelhouse. However, while it’s easy to admire Angie Tribeca‘s first episode for how effortlessly it constructs itself as a parody of police procedurals, it’s not really a surprise there are moments where it feels like the show’s fighting an uphill battle against its own length and style. How much can Angie Tribeca really wring out of a well worn, increasingly niche brand of comedy? Written by Steve and Nancy Walls Carrell (and directed by Steve Carrell), “Pilot” is both a promising introduction

TCA Winter Press Tour 2016: Reboots, Reunions and Steven Avery

Now that a few days have passed since journalists and critics have decamped from Pasadena, Calif. for the annual two-week grind of Television Critics Association winter press tour, Variety‘s TV team has taken stock of the most noteworthy trends.

Sean Penn’s El Chapo interview grabbed headlines, as did his sitdown with Charlie Rose — along with any mention of Donald Trump, “Making A Murderer,” and unintended cast reunions. (No, the “Friends” cast is not getting back together.) But nothing occupied TCA as much as a report on Netflix’s ratings in a presentation by NBC research president Alan Wurtzel — which Netflix chief Ted Sarandos handily dismissed in his exec session as “remarkably inaccurate.”

And then, of course, there was all the usual chatter about “Peak TV,” which has now hit a high of 412 scripted series.

For those who didn’t make it to the Langham Hotel, here’s what
