Oliver Stone Slams Media’s ‘Extremist,’ ‘Anti-Russian Fervor’

Oliver Stone Slams Media’s ‘Extremist,’ ‘Anti-Russian Fervor’
Presenting his latest work, “The Putin Interviews,” at the Sarajevo Film Festival on Monday, Oliver Stone took aim at the U.S. mainstream media for its inability or refusal to look beyond the established image of Russia and President Vladimir Putin.

The festival honored Stone on Sunday with its Honorary Heart of Sarajevo Award for his “exceptional contribution to film art.” As part of the tribute, the fest is screening four of Stone’s films, including “Snowden,” “Natural Born Killers,” and “Platoon.”

At a Q&A session during and after an entire four-hour screening of “The Putin Interviews,” Stone also touched on the powerlessness of Donald Trump in setting U.S policy, claiming the unwavering course of the country was set by the deep state, regardless of the White House occupant, but nevertheless warned of the U.S. president’s recent threats of military action in Asia and South America.

Mindy Newell: Migraines and Mel

  • Comicmix
This may turn out to be a short one, guys.

A lot of us here at ComicMix have written about the agonies of writer’s block, but I don’t think anyone has ever talked about the torture of trying to write when your head is trying to separate itself from the rest of your body.

That’s ‘cause I have the worst tension migraine right now. I’ve been having them all week, on and off. It’s probably because I’m starting to go nuts from being – mostly – stuck in the house. My vision is okay, but there’s a little man with a pick-ax standing on the right side of the crown of my head, and he’s swinging away and my right ear is ringing in response – I feel like Wile E. Coyote after a run-in with the Roadrunner. I’ve taken my Advil, but the

Film Review: ‘The Freedom to Marry’

Film Review: ‘The Freedom to Marry’
The road to the Supreme Court’s 2015 marriage equality ruling gets standard treatment in Eddie Rosenstein’s solid yet unexceptional documentary “The Freedom to Marry.” Largely focused on Evan Wolfson, guiding light behind the movement to legalize same-sex marriage, the film provides a potted history of the struggle, taking it up to the historic moment in June, 2015 when the more civil rights oriented justices, and Justice itself, prevailed.

Whether intentional or not, the doc inclines towards homogenizing the Lgbt community, privileging the argument that marriage is needed to protect the children of same-sex couples — a vital line of reasoning but one that tends to push aside, in a heteronormative way, the emotional bonds of the parents. After traveling the Lgbt fest circuit, “Freedom” comes home to roost with a limited theatrical run.

The first 10 minutes give a compressed history of the gay rights struggle together with Wolfson’s “normal” Pittsburgh upbringing (he’s a mensch!

Third Presidential Debate: How Did Fox News' Chris Wallace Do as Moderator?

Third Presidential Debate: How Did Fox News' Chris Wallace Do as Moderator?
For Wednesday’s third and (thank goodness) final presidential debate, it was Fox News anchor Chris Wallace’s turn to sit in the moderator’s chair. With Election Day less than three weeks away and plenty of hostility on both sides, tensions were running high between candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. (They didn’t even shake hands at the start of the debate.) But did Wallace manage to keep the peace?

After loudly complaining about the bias shown by the last two debates’ moderators — even while the debates were happening — Trump could hardly object to Wallace, who’s been

Final Presidential Debate Throws Spotlight on Chris Wallace, Fox News Channel

Chris Wallace once grilled none other than President Ronald Reagan. While serving as a White House correspondent for NBC News in the 1980s, he got the Chief Executive sometimes known as “The Gipper” riled up by asking a simple question after the U.S. had intercepted an Egyptian airliner.

“Do you have anything to apologize for?” Wallace asked. The President’s response: “Never!”

Wallace will have to tap that reserve of moxie this evening, when he becomes the first Fox News Channel anchor to moderate a general-election presidential debate. The two candidates, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, are not likely to be any easier to crack than President Reagan.

“Trump is Trump, and he runs a campaign much more on personality than on issues. He is just different than anyone I’ve ever covered,” the host of “Fox News Sunday” told Variety in April. Clinton can also be difficult, and has during this campaign been less-than-eager to

‘Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened’ Review: Stephen Sondheim Opens Old Wounds Of Closing A Show — Nyff
“One of the lessons of adulthood is disappointment,” says a bleary-eyed Abigail Pogrebin as she muses on her time in the original Broadway production of “Merrily We Roll Along,” Stephen Sondheim and Hal Prince’s notorious flop that ended their decades-long collaborative friendship and the subject of Lonny Price’s nostalgic documentary, “Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened,” which debuted at the New York Film Festival.

Price, (whom “Dirty Dancing” fans may recognize as the guy who put Baby in the corner), was part of the original cast of the musical. Based on the popular 1934 play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, “Merrily” tells the life stories of its three main characters in reverse order; they start out bitter and jaded adults, and by the show’s end have reverted to hopeful and starry-eyed kids. Prince, the legendary Broadway producer and the first to combine producing with directing,

Big Stars Love TV So Much, They’re Even Hosting Game Shows Now
Remember when big-name stars didn’t want to do TV? Now they’re even clamoring for jobs as game show hosts.

Alec Baldwin (ABC’s “Match Game”), Taye Diggs (Fox’s “Hypnotize Me”), Jane Lynch (NBC’s “Celebrity Game Night”) and Anthony Anderson (ABC’s “To Tell the Truth”) are just some of the actors who now front major primetime game shows, in addition to their regular scripted work.

“You look at game shows from the 1970s and 1980s, they were somewhat cheesy,” Anderson said. “It’s different now. It’s a lot classier. It’s cool.”

Wayne Brady, who has hosted a “Let’s Make a Deal” revival for CBS since 2009, joked that “being a game show host was very much akin to being a local affiliate weatherman – and no offense to local affiliate weathermen, but there’s a stereotype.”
