The reboot of Xena: Warrior Princess is officially dead at NBC.

The project parted ways with writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach a few months back and now NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke has said that the proposed reboot of the show is isn’t happening in its current form.

“Nothing is happening on that right now. We looked at some material; we decided at that point that it didn’t warrant the reboot,” Salke told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’d never say never on that one because it’s such a beloved title, but the current incarnation of it is dead.”

Xena co-creators Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi were on board to oversee the project via Ghost House Pictures, with the reboot looking to cast a new actress in the role made famous by Lucy Lawless.

Grillo-Marxuach revealed that he exited the project in April due to creative differences.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC president Jennifer Salke 100% confirmed that the reboot has been put back on the shelf, although she didn’t rule out more to come from the franchise at some point in the future.

“Nothing is happening on that right now. We looked at some material; we decided at that point that it didn’t warrant the reboot. I’d never say never on that one because it’s such a beloved title, but the current incarnation of it is dead.”

Back in 2015, it was announced that the network were reviving the series. What helped to win fans over to the idea was that Og Xena producers Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi were on board for the project.

The Eyes of My Mother helmer to direct The Grudge remake

Back in March 2014, it was announced that Ghost House Pictures would be rebooting its remake of the Japanese horror The Grudge, and now it seems they are finally ready to move forward with Deadline reporting that Nicolas Pesce (The Eyes of My Mother) has signed on to direct.

The new film is based on a script from Jeff Buhler (Midnight Meat Train) and is being produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Taka Ichise. Plot details are being kept under wraps.

Pesce made his directorial debut with The Eyes of My Mother, and is currently in post-production on his second film, the psychological thriller Piercing, which stars Mia Wasikowska and Christopher Abbott.

Created by Takashi Shimizu, The Grudge has spawned nine feature films in Japan – most recently Sadako vs. Kayako, a crossover with fellow J-horror Ring. The English-language remake was released in 2004, and was followed by sequels in 2006 and 2009.

The Grudge Reboot Recruits Nicolas Pesce To Write And Direct
True to its name, The Grudge is a cult horror franchise that refuses to relent.

Not since the release of 2009’s lacklustre The Grudge 3 have we welcomed a new entry into the supernatural series, but that’s all about to change very soon. According to Deadline, The Eyes of My Mother filmmaker Nicolas Pesce has climbed aboard to write and direct The Grudge for Ghost House Pictures, which will be based on a spec script from Midnight Meat Train writer, Jeff Buhler. Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Taka Ichise are all on board to produce the horror reboot, working in tandem with executive producers Roy Lee, Doug Davison, Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane.

Little is currently known about the plot, but it’s safe to assume that Ghost House Pictures’ reimagining of The Grudge will chronicle the titular entity as it moves from one grief-stricken victim to another, leaving

The Grudge Reboot to be Helmed by The Eyes Of My Mother Director Nicolas Pesce

  • DailyDead
Meowing might become a scary sound again, as a reboot of The Grudge, itself a remake of the Japanese film Ju-on: The Grudge, now has a director.

According to Deadline, the latest film in The Grudge franchise is set to be directed and rewritten by Nicolas Pesce, the filmmaker behind 2016's The Eyes of My Mother, a big hit on the festival circuit and a film that our own Heather Wixson called "a hauntingly provocative slice of gothic cinema" in her review.

Pesce is expected to provide additional work to a previous screenplay written by Jeff Buhler, who adapted Clive Barker's The Midnight Meat Train for the screen and also co-wrote the upcoming Jacob's Ladder remake.

A Ghost House Pictures film, The Grudge reboot will be executive produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Taka Ichise. Roy Lee, Doug Davison, Joe Drake, and Nathan Kahane.

While no production schedule or release date has been announced yet, it seems this horror reboot is finally moving forward in the right direction, after years of languishing in development hell.

Deadline reports that Nicolas Pesce will rewrite the existing script, which was first worked on by Jeff Buhler (Midnight Meat Train), who came aboard to write the script in 2014. No details have been given about the existing script, or Nicolas Pesce's new vision for the project, or how it may diverge from the original Japanese movie, or the American remake. The original Japanese movie, Ju-on: The Grudge

Interview: Ted Raimi Discusses Playing a Possessed Henrietta Once Again on Ash Vs Evil Dead Season 2

  • DailyDead
As Ash's best friend Chet Kaminski, Ted Raimi turned in a scene-stealing performance with equal amounts of humor and heart on the Starz series Ash vs Evil Dead, but the actor also had the epic opportunity to reprise his role as a possessed Henrietta from Evil Dead 2. [Spoiler warning for those who haven't watched the first nine episodes of Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2.]

Thanks for taking the time to talk with me today and congratulations on the second season of Ash vs Evil Dead.
