‘House of Cards,’ ‘Transparent,’ ‘Today Show’ and More: A Complete Guide To TV Rocked By Sexual Harassment Scandals

Hollywood’s sexual harassment scandals have had an immediate effect on the industry — and on TV viewers as well. As networks and studios are confronted with allegations of misconduct and assault by their stars, producers, and even executives, heightened publicity has also prevented them from sweeping such news under the rug.

Instead, from morning to primetime, broadcast, cable and streaming services have been faced with making big moves on some of their biggest properties. In the $1 billion morning show competition, both NBC’s “Today” and CBS’ “This Morning” fired key anchors. Netflix’s and Amazon’s signature, award-winning dramas are expected to return without their lead stars. Paramount Network planned to launch by leveraging the Weinstein brand — but that strategy is dead. And FX must now rebuild its comedy brand without the producer who inspired much of it.

Good Girls Trailer: NBC May Have Another Hit Drama on Its Hands
This February on NBC, the Good Girls will revolt.

NBC on Monday continued its marketing blitz for the new female-powered drama with the release of the show’s first official trailer. And we are really, extremely, very encouraged by what were seeing.

Created by Jenna Bans (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy), the series follows a trio of suburban moms — played by Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), Retta (Parks and Recreation) and Mae Whitman (Parenthood) — who rob a grocery store when they become desperate to make ends meet. But their plan hits a major snag when the manager sees one of their faces.

Will Matthew Weiner’s Sexual Harassment Allegation Sink Amazon’s ‘The Romanoffs’?

Will Matthew Weiner’s Sexual Harassment Allegation Sink Amazon’s ‘The Romanoffs’?
In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, Amazon quickly put a halt to an untitled Weinstein Co. project from David O. Russell. But another Weinstein project, “The Romanoffs,” continued without the now-embattled production company.

Now the fate of “The Romanoffs” may now be called into question as well, following new allegations against series creator Matthew Weiner. In an article for The Information, former “Mad Men” writer Kater Gordon said Weiner, who created the critically acclaimed AMC series, harassed her one night while working on a script.

A spokesperson for Weiner said, “he does not remember saying this comment nor does it reflect a comment he would say to any colleague,” while Amazon did not return a request for comment.

Nonetheless, Amazon now finds itself in a much more complicated position with “The Romanoffs” than it did with the Russell series. The Russell show, set to star Julianne Moore, Robert De Niro and Michael Shannon,

Diane Lane has been cast in one of Amazon’s latest projects, from Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner. Lane will star in The Romanoffs, a one-hour anthology series set around the globe featuring separate stories about people who believe they are descendants of the Russian royal family.

Weiner is set to direct all the episodes in the series as well as writing and producing. The Romanoffs will premiere on Amazon Prime sometime next year. Recently the show became entangled in the ever-growing Harvey Weinstein scandal as The Weinstein Company was also producing the series. Amazon decided to sever its ties with TWC and develop the series on their own rather than as a co-production between studios.

Other actors who will star in the series include Aaron Eckhart (Sully), Isabelle Huppert (Elle), Marthe Keller (Marathon Man), Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), John Slattery (Mad Men), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), Amanda Peet (Togetherness

Churchill

The scope of this slice of wartime history is so small, it’s almost the movie equivalent of a one-man show. There are perhaps only a dozen speaking roles. Brian Cox is impressive as The Man Who Saved England in its Darkest Hour, but the drama reduces both the man and the historical crisis to trivial status, as little more than a personal emotional crisis: “Winston, the Haunted Imperialist.”
