The Hatton Garden Job review – a swift and methodical theft of everyone's time

Matthew Goode and Phil Daniels do their best as toughened crims in a story of the real-life 2015 heist, but they can’t rescue this geezer opera from trite tedium

The Hatton Garden safe deposit burglary in 2015 was the largest in English history, carried out by ageing veterans. When news of this caper broke, I – along with every other film journalist in the country – speculated about what the inevitable film version would look like and, in a spasm of sentimental optimism, I even invoked Jonathan Glazer’s masterpiece Sexy Beast, also about a safe deposit job.

A Working Title production with Michael Caine and Jim Broadbent is in the works. In the meantime here is another film – and it’s a most-expense-spared production, ropey and depressing, which fails to keep faith with the grey power ethos by inventing a sexy young crim leader for the older crew: Matthew Goode roughens up his vowels for the part.

Official Trailer for Matthew Goode’s The Hatton Garden Job breaks out

  • HeyUGuys
Author: Zehra Phelan

Back in 2015, Britain witnessed a robbery that could have been straight out of the movies. It was a throwback crime to the days of the Great Train Robbery of 1963, a crime which made the likes of Buster Edwards and Ronnie Biggs household names. It was only a matter of time before this new story was adapted for the big screen and The Hatton Garden Job is just that film.

The Hatton Garden Job is directed by Tower Block and I Am Soldier writer and director Ronnie Thompson, though looking at the new trailer anyone would think this has a touch of Guy Ritchie about it. The cast is none too shabby either; the gang of aging criminals is lead by Brian Reader who is played by Larry Lamb who may be most recognisable as Gavin’s Dad in Gavin and Stacey. He also had the evil role

Game Of Thrones: Brian Cox turned down a role, regrets it now

Rob Leane Jul 4, 2016

The mighty Brian Cox turned down Game Of Thrones "because they didn't pay enough money"...

Brian Cox (the legendary thesp seen in X-Men 2, Troy and the Bourne franchise; not that star-gazing bloke off the telly) has a varied and mostly-very-good CV. One thing that isn't on it, though, is Game Of Thrones.

As Vodzilla has now found out, HBO did once approach Cox to try and get him on their now-huge bloodbath of a show. Cox now describes himself as a "complete addict" of the show. So why did he turn it down in the first place?

“Stupidly, I turned it down in the early days because they didn’t pay enough money,” Cox told Vodzilla, apparently laughing as he said it. “Now they have more money. And I was silly. I was silly, it was silly, because I’m a complete addict now. But I don

Filming on the The Hatton Garden Job movie underway

You may recall last year that a very odd robbery took place which saw £14 million (though estimated at £200 million) worth of jewels stolen from London’s Hatton Garden Vault, where the collective ages of the four ringleaders came to 278 years. Well, now Signature Entertainment have secured the UK distribution rights for a movie adaptation of the robbery, with filming now underway in and around London.

The Hatton Garden Job picks up with a mysterious thief, who is presented with an opportunity to take down the exclusive Hatton Garden Vault just days after leaving prison. It’s an old school job, requiring old school skills. With real life twists and turns as though written for a movie, The Hatton Garden Job follows our convict recruiting a team of veteran British criminals all eager for one final chance at glory. Together they must stay ahead of the law, dodge hired mercenaries and

Game Of Thrones season 6 episode 7 review: The Broken Man

A siege, enemies forced to cooperate, and a blast from the past arrive in this week's Game Of Thrones season 6 episode, The Broken Man...

This review contains spoilers.

6.7 The Broken Man

Game Of Thrones typically doesn't do cold-openings. The premiere episode had one—remember our introduction to the White Walkers?—and a couple of other episodes have also had them, but when it happens, it's something that you need to pay attention to. This surprise cold opening isn't Tywin Lannister grinning as he forges two Valyrian steel swords, but it's something even better. It's the return of one of the show's most beloved characters, long after he was assumed dead. As if that return isn't enough, he's got a friend with him in the form of Ian McShane playing a septon.

Of course, the returning character (you already know who it is if you're reading this) isn't

Game of Thrones Episode 6.6 Recap: Guess Who Is Back?

Game of Thrones Episode 6.6 Recap: Guess Who Is Back?
Episode 6 of Game of Thrones "Blood of My Blood", does not begin with Hodor miraculously alive. The gentle giant is dead, but did indeed hold the door long enough for Meera (Ellie Kendrick) and Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) to escape into the woods. Bran is still in the trance. He sees a montage of the events that led up to this point. The White Walkers are front and center, but we do get a glimpse of The Mad King and his stockpile of Wildfire in the vision. This has to be an important set up for the eventual showdown with The Night King. He wakes up as they are surrounded by the undead. Meera valiantly covers him; a masked rider swinging a mace of fire comes to their rescue. He pulls them unto his horse and they escape into the forest.

Sam (John Bradley) and Gilly (Hannah Murray) arrive at

Jon Snow Returns in 'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Poster

Spoiler Alert! After the shocking Season 5 finale of HBO's Game of Thrones, one of the many questions left unresolved is whether or not Kit Harington's Jon Snow is really alive or dead. The Night's Watch commander was savagely attacked by his "brothers," who left him for dead during the finale, Mother's Mercy. While we likely won't get any solid confirmation about Jon Snow's fate until next year, the show's official Twitter account has released the first Season 6 poster, featuring a cryptic image of Snow, while teasing that the new season will debut in April.

There has been plenty of evidence that supports http://movieweb.com/game-of-thrones-season-6-kit-harington-jon-snow/Kit Harington's Jon Snow being both alive and dead. Back in September, new photos surfaced that showed Kit Harington on the Northern Ireland set. Some have speculated that the Red Priestess Melissandre (Carice van Houten) could use her supernatural powers

Leaked 'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Script Page Reveals New Details

Leaked 'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Script Page Reveals New Details
It's been a particularly trying off-season for Game of Thrones fans, since the show's producers haven't released nearly as many details as they have in years past. The show eschewed a longtime tradition of revealing the full cast for the upcoming episodes at Comic Con, although we have been getting a number of casting reports and set photos as filming continues on Season 6. Since the show has caught up with George R.R. Martin's books, there isn't much we do know about the season. Last week, new cast member Elie Haddad shared a photo on his Instagram page that featured a page from an upcoming episode's script, which reveals new details from Game of Thrones Season 6. There will be potential Spoilers below, so read on at your own risk.

While we don't know what role Elie Haddad is playing, the scene shown on his script page features dialogue between two Dothraki soldiers.
