Q&A: The Force is With Reader Questions

by Nathaniel R

I got a little verbosely carried away whilst answering reader questions so you get two Q & A columns from your last batch of questions. Thanks for playing. This week I asked for a few Star Wars Questions but that's just three of the six questions answered here. Ready, let's go!

Troy: Within the past year Cynthia Erivo has won a Tony, Grammy, and Daytime Emmy for her work in the recent Broadway revival of The Color Purple, making her only one step away from completing the Egot. Which type of project do you think would giver her her best chance at winning an Oscar?

Nathaniel: I hate to get nitpicky but technically should Daytime Emmys even count with the Egot? If you count any old Emmy as towards the Egot than about 100,000 people you've never heard of who have local Emmies (seriously they give those statues out

Book of Henry Trailer Arrives from the Director of Jurassic World

Book of Henry Trailer Arrives from the Director of Jurassic World
Focus Features has released the first trailer and two new posters for the upcoming drama The Book of Henry, which is set for release on June 16, 2017. This family drama marks just the third film for director Colin Trevorrow, who started his career with the offbeat indie hit Safety Not Guaranteed, which he parlayed into making one of the biggest blockbuster sequels ever with 2015's Jurassic World. The Book of Henry marks another drastic departure for the filmmaker, veering into the family drama genre in what could be one of the sleeper hits of the summer.

Sometimes things are not always what they seem, especially in the small suburban town where the Carpenter family lives. Single suburban mother Susan Carpenter (Naomi Watts) works as a waitress at a diner, alongside feisty family friend Sheila (Sarah Silverman). Her younger son Peter (Jacob Tremblay) is a playful 8-year-old. Taking care of everyone and

Colin Trevorrow’s The Book of Henry gets a new poster

Ahead of its trailer release tomorrow, director Colin Trevorrow has unveiled a new poster for his latest directorial effort, The Book of Henry. Check out the stunning one-sheet below…

The art seems like a cross between a classic Amblin or Drew Struzan-style poster and a family comedy/drama poster, which makes for a winning combo. Featuring the same tagline as the first poster, “Never leave things undone,” the one-sheet teases a fun, heartfelt and nostalgic time at the movies.

The Book of Henry will be Trevorrow’s directorial follow-up to 2015’s Jurassic World, which became a mega-hit at the box office. While, of course, no one is expecting Jurassic World-sized numbers for The Book of Henry, it surely has the potential to become a sleeper hit, performing modestly in its own right.

The film takes place in a small suburban town where a waitress, Susan, raises two children.

‘Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened’ Review: Stephen Sondheim Opens Old Wounds Of Closing A Show — Nyff

‘Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened’ Review: Stephen Sondheim Opens Old Wounds Of Closing A Show — Nyff
“One of the lessons of adulthood is disappointment,” says a bleary-eyed Abigail Pogrebin as she muses on her time in the original Broadway production of “Merrily We Roll Along,” Stephen Sondheim and Hal Prince’s notorious flop that ended their decades-long collaborative friendship and the subject of Lonny Price’s nostalgic documentary, “Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened,” which debuted at the New York Film Festival.

Price, (whom “Dirty Dancing” fans may recognize as the guy who put Baby in the corner), was part of the original cast of the musical. Based on the popular 1934 play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, “Merrily” tells the life stories of its three main characters in reverse order; they start out bitter and jaded adults, and by the show’s end have reverted to hopeful and starry-eyed kids. Prince, the legendary Broadway producer and the first to combine producing with directing,

According To Gotham Season 3 Premiere Synopsis, It’s “Better To Reign In Hell”

With less than three weeks to go until Gotham begins its third season, vital details continue to pour in. The latest comes in the form of the premiere episode’s synopsis that also divulges its foreboding title: “Mad City: Better to Reign in Hell…”

Aside from sharing that name with a great song by Cradle of Filth, fans of classic literature will recognize it from John Milton’s Paradise Lost, with the full quote being, “Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven.” Seeing as how villains will continue to run roughshod over the city until a certain Caped Crusader lays claim to the night, that title seems consistent with recent news regarding the upcoming season’s tone.

Something interesting to note in the synopsis is the absence of Maggie Geha as the aged up Poison Ivy. Clare Foley is the only one listed to be playing that character,

Gotham season 2 episode 20 review: Unleashed

Gotham unleashed the cheesiness this week, for an episode that offers nothing but campy fun...

This review contains spoilers

2.20: Unleashed

Holy bazooka, Batman! Not long ago I was complaining about a tonal imbalance in Gotham, and now season 2’s 20th episode has offered up one solution to the problem – totally embracing the cheesy, campy, Adam-West-would-be-proud side of the show.

That’s essentially what Unleashed gave us, after all. It’s an episode in which the Penguin and Butch show up with a bazooka, blow Azrael/Galavan to kingdom come and then just wander off to the sound of wailing guitars and a sax-heavy woodwind accompaniment. Before this, we’d seen Alfred in a sword fight and Bruce walloping the deranged former mayor with a car.

I don’t have any qualms with this. To my own surprise, I found myself thoroughly entertained by the utterly barmy ending to this episode.
