Rocky Horror Remake: Is It Worth the Revisit?

  • Cinelinx
Fox’s new made-for-tv musical remake of the cult favorite The Rocky Horror Picture Show aired last night and brought us on a second trip to the madcap castle of Dr. Frank N. Furter. The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do The Time Warp Again tries to recapture the wacky magic of the original source material but doesn’t quite succeed. Despite some good moments, this reboot only makes you want to watch the 1975 film again.

When people say “There are some movies that shouldn’t be remade”, they could be talking about The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). Based on the popular play, the bizarre cult favorite written by Richard O'Brien and Jim Sharman was a unique piece of cinematic satire that mixed 1970s sensibilities with edgy humor and nostalgia for old sci-fi and horror films. It was a ‘moment-in-time’ creation that hit all the right notes for

Captain Planet Movie Coming, Leonardo DiCaprio Involved

Mike Cecchini Oct 18, 2016

By your powers combined, or at least the powers of some folks in Hollywood, a Captain Planet movie is in development.

This just in: Paramount is developing a Captain Planet movie. Remember Captain Planet? Captain Planet And The Planeteers was a somewhat preachy cartoon with an environmental message that ran from 1993-1996. Depending on how old you were at the time, you either have fond memories of it (and its brightly designed, but strangely mulleted title character) or found it insufferable (primarily because of his supporting cast of teenage 'planeteers'), but it's unlikely you've forgotten it.

Captain Planet would be summoned "by your powers combined" when the Planeteers would work together with their magic rings to fight villains with names like 'Hoggish Greedly.'

The nostalgia factor aside, there's some interesting talent involved in bringing the Captain Planet movie to life. For starters, Paramount is the studio

Celebrating the UK adventure game TV show

Aaron Birch Jul 13, 2016

The Crystal Maze, Cyber Zone, Fort Boyard... We look back at the UK game shows that dared to ask more than just quiz questions...

If the idea of yet another TV game show with an uninspiring presenter and ever so slight spin on the tried and tested Q&A formula fills you with apathy, you're not alone. Although TV quiz shows often rake in the viewers for a relatively low production budget, hence their popularity with TV studios, the whole genre feels a little stagnant. Perhaps it's the rise of the Internet, a general change in viewer culture, and the changing tastes that come with it. While many shows of the past delighted audiences with images of shiny new appliances, cars, and holidays to far-off destinations, today's shows mostly award cold, hard, and boring cash. Great for the winner, but not too interesting for the viewer. Give

It's hard to believe that it has been 40 years since we first took "a jump to the left" and did the Time Warp, which was at the center of what has become one of the most enduring cult classics in the history of movies. The Rocky Horror Picture Show, directed by Jim Sharman and written by Richard O'Brien (based on his play), introduced us to some of the most bizarre characters to hit the silver screen. There were Brad and Janet, the newly engaged and hopelessly unhip heroes, a...
