Krypton Casts Da Vinci’s Demons’ Blake Ritson As Brainiac

Syfy’s upcoming prequel series Krypton is set to explore the political and social troubles of Superman’s home planet two generations before it was destroyed, with the show following Cameron Cuffe as Seg-El, Kal-El’s grandfather. It’s going to make the most out of having the cosmic side of the DC universe at its disposal, too, as it’s bringing in a few familiar faces. Previously, Shaun Sipos was cast as space-based hero Adam Strange, while another interesting character we were told to expect was Brainiac, a major foe of the Man of Steel’s in the comics.

Now, Deadline is reporting that Krypton has found someone to play the villain: Blake Ritson, most known for his role on Starz’s Da Vinci’s Demons. The site describes Krypton‘s version of Brainiac as “a parasitic, hyper-advanced alien android of immense intelligence.” This should definitely please comic book fans,

Krypton casts Paula Malcomson and Blake Ritson in pivotal roles

Some more casting announcements have been made for SyFy’s upcoming Superman prequel series, Krypton. According to Deadline, the show has cast Ray Donovan’s Paula Malcomson in a pivotal guest-starring role and Da Vinci’s Demons‘ Blake Ritson as a series villainous regular.

Malcomson will portray Charys-El, the matriarch of the House of El and mother to Cameron Cuffe’s Seg-El, who is Superman’s grandfather. This makes Malcomson the Man of Steel’s great-grandmother. After the House of El is shamed and ostracized by the rest of Krypton, she “helps her son Seg navigate the treacherous pitfalls of Kandor City, their Kryptonian home embattled with oppression and revolt.”

Meanwhile, Ritson will portray a familiar antagonist to Superman fans. He was been cast as the intelligent and evil Brainiac, a “parasitic, hyper-advanced alien android of immense intelligence” who travels across the universe collecting cities to add to his ship

Although Superman, born Kal-El, is a hero to us mere humans, his family didn’t enjoy that kind of appreciation. The House of El was ostracized and shamed, and it was up to Seyg-El to fight to redeem his family’s honor and save his world.

That isn’t the only house name we may recognize. Among the cast are also Georgina Campbell (“Broadchurch”) and Ann Ogbomo, who play Lyta Zod and Alura Zod, respectively.

Syfy Debuts First Trailer For Krypton At Comic-Con

When you take a moment to combine the current roster of Marvel and DC-related TV shows – both on air and in the pipeline – you’ll no doubt uncover a treasure trove of costumed crusaders. On the one hand, Marvel has made serious headway through its collaboration with Netflix, resulting in four standalone series in the form of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Mike Colter’s Hero for Hire, Luke Cage. With four solo shows now under their belt though, all eyes are beginning to turn toward The Defenders ahead of its bow in August.

DC, meanwhile, has found great success within the Arrowverse – an umbrella that encompasses The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, Vixen and Legends of Tomorrow. But there’s another show looming on the horizon, and its name is Krypton. Set to debut on Syfy at some point next year, we’d seen a leaked trailer and a brief
