Dynasty's Liz Gillies on Playing 'Bad Girl' Fallon Carrington and Why the Reboot Is 'Not Your Mother's Dynasty'
The Carringtons are back, and the drama looks juicier than ever.

Ahead of the premiere of The CW’s Dynasty remake, People Now caught up with actress Liz Gillies, who plays Fallon Carrington in the revival of the ’80s classic primetime soap opera chronicling the ongoing feud between two wealthy families, the Carringtons and the Colbys.

Executive-produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (who helmed Gossip Girl and The O.C.), the revival is somewhat of a departure from the original — which Gillies, 24, applauds.

“We had to make a lot of changes, because if you go back and watch the original Dynasty,

Dynasty: revisiting an 80s soap cheese-fest

Catherine Pearson Oct 11, 2017

With the remake of the 1980s soap opera arriving today, what better time to take a nostalgia-filled lookback at Dynasty?

Cast your mind back, if you can, to the year of 1981. Bucks Fizz, Adam and the Ants and Soft Cell were storming the charts, Only Fools And Horses aired its first series on BBC One and Gregory’s Girl was playing in a cinema near you. Meanwhile, stateside, ABC had cooked up a suitably glamorous and scandalous competitor to Dallas, the CBS drama packed full of Stetsons and suspense. The world may have recently discovered who shot J.R., but there was still plenty of room for the Carringtons.

Enter Dynasty, a show based around the business and family of oil tycoon Blake Carrington (John Forsythe) whose recent marriage to his former secretary Krystle (Linda Evans) was making waves within the family mansion. With the Colby family

Break out the mud (but get rid of the shoulder pads): The CW is prepping a new, modern remake of the classic primetime soap “Dynasty.”

Among the changes: In this version, Krystle (originally played by Linda Evans) is now Cristal, a Latina woman marrying into the Carrington clan.

Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are developing the new show, along with Sallie Patrick (“Revenge”). The husband-wife duo who originally created “Dynasty,” Esther Shapiro and Richard Shapiro, are also attached as executive producers.

To Find a Man

A sweet, poignant little movie that hasn't been on anybody's radar since it sank from view in 1972. Notable for its frank treatment of teen sexuality and abortion, this is the kind of studio movie they stopped making a few years later. Pamela Sue Martin's film debut and a Us entry in the Cannes Film Festival. The movie's in color but this trailer, taken from a substandard vhs source, is black-and-white and bears the exploitation title Sex and the Teenager.

Dynasty's Most Infamous Cliffhanger Aired 30 Years Ago

Dynasty's Most Infamous Cliffhanger Aired 30 Years Ago
On May 18, 1985, Dynasty concluded its fifth and highest-ever-rated season with a cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers: the Moldavian wedding massacre.

Amanda (Catherine Oxenberg), long-lost daughter to Alexis (Joan Collins) and Blake (John Forsythe), is marching down the aisle, soon to wed Prince Michael (Michael Praed), of the European nation of Moldavia. But before the ceremony can conclude, terrorists spray the chapel with bullets, and the season's final moments show the cast lying bloodied and lifeless – but still looking glamorous, of course.

The episode sparked viewer concern for the Carrington clan and their associates. Who could possibly survive? In September, the sixth-season premiere revealed that,

These Ratchet Republicans Are Too Much To Handle

Republican ratchetness is a serious ailment that affects dozens of politicians each year. It’s currently hitting Gov. Mike Pence (Indiana) hard, given his state’s controversial religious freedom law that basically means business owners can turn away Lgbt customers because the Bible tells them so. It’s also taking a toll on embattled Rep. Aaron Schock (Illinois) who resigned from his House seat over an ethics scandal. Texas Senator Ted Cruz recently announced his presidential bid, which means his ratchetness is just beginning — he did call climate change activists “flat-Earthers” after all. However, this stuff is just child’s play compared to what other right-winged suits have done in the past. (We’re looking at you, Mark Sanford.)

From sex scandals to homophobic comments, these politicians represent the essence of Republican ratchetry: ignorance, stupidity, and just a bad moral compass. Isn’t it ironic these conservatives are engaging in some very un-conservative behavior?

The Original 'Too Many Cooks': These Fake 'Dynasty' Credits

  • Hitfix
Like you, I lapped up every uproarious actor name and dada plot twist of "Too Many Cooks," Adult Swim's bizarre parody of '80s TV opening credits. But that video also reminded me of one of the internet's true lost gems: these fake opening titles to "Dynasty." The comedy outfit Fatal Farm made a number of these parodies, including a "Golden Girls" edition and a "Doogie Howser" riff featuring, like "Too Many Cooks," a knife-wielding credits killer. Enjoy this incredible YouTube moment. Pamela Sue Martin, we love you.
