Amazon Studios drops Chris Carter’s The After

Chris Carter’s The After is no longer being pursued at Amazon Studios. The company dropped the series, according to Variety, providing little information as to the sudden change of direction. “We have decided to not move forward with ‘The After,’ ” said Amazon Studios VP Roy Price. “We would like to thank Chris Carter, the phenomenal cast, crew and producers for all their efforts.”

The pilot for The After was produced last year, featured a fairly large ensemble cast including Jamie Kennedy, Adrian Pasdar, Sharon Lawrence, Arielle Kebbel, Aldis Hodge, Andrew Howard, Louise Monot, Sam Littlefield, and Jaina Lee Ortiz and was subsequently released on Amazon Prime the following February. The then-hopeful drama series centered on eight strangers brought together by mysterious forces, who must rely upon one another to survive in a violent world that defies explanation.

Amazon Studios began creating original content two year ago and and has

Garry Trudeau Talks Alpha House, Bringing the Show to Amazon, His Writing Process, Choosing to Maintain a Low Personal Profile and More

From show creator/executive producer Garry Trudeau, the Amazon original series Alpha House is a hilarious comedy about four misfit senators – Gil John Biggs (John Goodman), Robert Bettencourt (Clark Johnson), Louis Laffer Jr. (Matt Malloy) and Andy Guzman (Mark Consuelos) – who rent a house together in Washington, D.C. and deal with all of the outrageousness that comes with a life in politics. Having watched Season 1, I can vouch for the fact that the writing is smart, the acting is great, and the stories are sometimes all-too-real, and Season 2 is sure to be that much stronger. During this exclusive interview with Collider, Pulitzer Prize-winner Garry Trudeau talked about why a TV show and why Amazon, at this point in his career, what John Goodman brings to the show, why he’s turned down so many offers over the years, his previous TV experience, why he’s maintained such a low personal profile,

Cartoonist Garry Trudeau on Season 2 of Alpha House and Binge-Watching

  • Vulture
Cartoonist Garry Trudeau on Season 2 of Alpha House and Binge-Watching
Did Garry Trudeau feel the need to change anything for season two of his Capitol Hill satire Alpha House, all ten episode of which roll out on Amazon Prime today? “We just tried to do it better,” the Doonesbury cartoonist tells Vulture of the series, which stars John Goodman, Mark Consuelos, Clark Johnson, and Matt Malloy as a quartet of Gop congressmen sharing a D.C. townhouse. “We tried to make the stories faster, funnier, and edgier — all that good stuff.”What’s the biggest difference in writing a comedy series and a comic strip? I’ve never had a single full-time employee in the last 40 years, and now I have 120-some-odd teammates. But it’s a wonderful group of collaborators. I wonder why it took me so long to realize the joy of working with other people. It’s been thrilling. You’ve got cameos in season two from

Garry Trudeau leaving 'Doonesbury' to focus on 'Alpha House'

  • Pop2it
"Doonesbury" fans may have less to laugh about soon: Cartoonist Garry Trudeau has announced he is taking a hiatus from the long-running political comic in order to focus on "Alpha House," an Amazon web series he co-created.

"It's now become common -- even necessary -- for my colleagues in art and journalism to move laterally as the media landscape changes," Trudeau writes in an e-mail quoted by the Boston Globe. "The comics were once an enormously influential part of the cultural conversation, but now it's streaming video that's a leading edge. We all have to adapt. I do plan to return to the strip -- I see myself as a lifer -- but the field obviously isn't as robust as it was when I was starting out."

This doesn't mean that "Doonesbury" will disappear altogether. Syndicated to about 1400 newspapers, the Sunday strip will continue to appear, while weekday editions will
