How ‘X-Men’ Became One of TV’s Best Animated Series (Flashback)

How ‘X-Men’ Became One of TV’s Best Animated Series (Flashback)
“Mankind has always feared what it doesn’t understand.”

Spoken by Ian McKellen’s Magneto in the first X-Men feature film adaptation in 2000, that pivotal theme has always illuminated a character’s stance in every medium of this particular Marvel universe. In 1992, an approximate version of the line was uttered by Storm (voiced by Iona Morris) in the pilot of the X-Men animated series, which premiered 25 years ago in October.

The Fox series’ influence also included pushing comic book stories into mainstream pop culture, as well as preparing future audiences with a story structure that challenged growing minds. As if pulling this off wasn’t a large enough challenge, X-Men concurrently offered hope and emotional refuge from the adolescent anxieties of its young viewers, which we all know (now) simply turn out to be simply less advanced versions of later adult anxieties.

The X-Men comics, originally created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1963, were a part of

‘Get Down’ Star Justice Smith Lands Lead in Live-Action ‘Pokemon’ Movie for Legendary (Exclusive)
Legendary has tapped breakout talent Justice Smith to star in the first-ever live-action “Pokemon” film titled “Detective Pikachu,” based on the titular character, sources tell Variety.

Rob Letterman is on board to direct from a script by Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch.

First introduced in Japan in 1996, Pokemon has spawned more than 295 million video games sold worldwide, 23.6 billion Tcg cards shipped to 74 countries, and an animated series spanning 20 seasons. The hugely popular “Pokemon Go” app saw the pocket monsters surge back into the pop culture consciousnesses last year.

Universal Pictures will handle distribution of the live-action film outside Japan, as it has done with Legendary’s other films for years. The Pokémon Company’s long time movie collaborator, Toho, will handle distribution of the film franchise in Japan, as it had similarly done in its partnership with Legendary on “Godzilla.”

Smith recently broke out on the Netflix musical drama series “The Get Down” after director Baz Luhrmann handpicked

Morbius the Living Vampire Is Sony's Next Spider-Man Spin-Off
It looks like Sony has even more projects on the burner for their Spider-Man spin-off movie universe than we previously thought. Developed in secret, it's come to light that the studio is moving forward with a movie based on Morbius the Living Vampire. According to a new report, the script has been submitted and the studio is ready to get it in front of a camera, which likely means finding a director to tackle the project. No director's names were brought up in this initial report about the next Spider-Man spin-off for Sony's standalone Marvel Universe.

The movie, simply titled Morbius, was written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, who most recently wrote the live-action Power Rangers movie for Saban and Lionsgate. Their other credits include God's of Egypt, Dracula Untold and The Last Witch Hunter. So this seems to be in their wheelhouse. While no specific plot details have been provided,

Kevin Feige Says McU Phase Four Announcements Are A Long Way Off

Though we haven’t even seen Avengers: Infinity War yet, fans are already eager to find out what the future of the McU holds once Avengers 4 wraps up Phase Three. Unfortunately, though, Marvel Studios has refused to cough up much information on it. Does this mean that they don’t have a plan in place then and will just make the next lot of movies as they go?

While chatting with Collider in a recent interview, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige revealed that he does know when the long-awaited news about Phase Four will finally arrive, but it’s not going to be for at least another two years, as the studio is committed to the next few films at the moment.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie needed to make at least $400 million globally in order to break even, which means Alcon Entertainment and the film’s investors are looking at a loss of around $80 million. Stan Lee says a Black Widow movie will happen one day

It’s long been requested by fans, and if Stan Lee is to be believed, it’s only a matter of time before we get to see the Black Widow headlining her own solo Marvel movie.

According to Comic Book, Lee was taking part in a panel at the Supanova Comic Con in Brisbane, where he stated that: “One day there will be a Black Widow movie.”

Now, of course, this isn’t exactly confirmation that a Black Widow movie is incoming from Marvel Studios, and most likely is just Lee sharing his personal opinion, rather than insider information.

Stan Lee Says We’re Getting A Black Widow Solo Movie

Black Widow is a name with a notable legacy within Marvel comic book lore. Many women have carried that moniker, including Claire Voyant – one of the earliest costumed, super-powered women to appear in comics. While cinema audiences today associate the name with a cat-suited Scarlett Johansson, Black Widow has also been the name of not only a mystical being possessed by Satan, but also a Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. who was the ex-wife of Nick Fury. She’s even been a serial killer with cannibalistic tendencies.

But, for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – and indeed, comic book movie fans everywhere – the version of Black Widow we see on the big screen today has come to be a symbol of female determination and capability. Within that movie franchise, through films of varying quality, she’s evolved into a complex character, whose loyalty and choices can determine

Did Stan Lee Predict Disney/Fox Deal Back In September?

21st Century Fox is keen to shed its entertainment divisions, and has reportedly been in talks with Disney about a landmark deal.

That’s the news that almost brought the Internet to a standstill earlier this morning, though The Wall Street Journal has since warned that the companies are no longer actively discussing the deal. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s off the table, merely that the acquisition is a long, long way from being signed, sealed and delivered.

And though the X-Men and/or Fantastic Four crossing over into Marvel’s cinematic universe is the stuff comic book dreams are made of, it would seem industry legend Stan Lee was already one step ahead of us all – how very fitting. As reported by Digital Spy, during his appearance at Wizard World Nashville back in September, Lee told those in attendance that it’s only a matter of time

Box Office: ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Rules With $121 Million Weekend

Box Office: ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Rules With $121 Million Weekend
Disney-Marvel’s “Thor: Ragnarok” is heading for a stellar opening weekend with $121 million at 4,080 North American locations — the fourth best launch of 2017.

The third Thor movie is also putting an emphatic end to the month-long box office slump that saw the worst October in a decade. Among 2017 titles, its debut weekend trails only “Beauty and the Beast” at $174.8 million, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” at $146.5 million and “It” at $123.4 million.

Thor: Ragnarok” also officially launches the holiday season with a major bang. Moviegoing has been battered this year by a subpar second half that’s pulled down 2017 grosses by 5%, but it should rebound somewhat, thanks to “Thor: Ragnorak” — which already cut the decline to 4.8% as of Sunday with $8.93 billion. Warner Bros.-DC Entertainment’s “Justice League” (which opens Nov. 17) and Disney-Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” (opening Dec. 15) should keep the positive momentum going.

“November has been a hotbed for blockbusters and is

The film is certified “fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes at a 93%, the seventh Marvel film to receive the “fresh” rating.

Taika Waititi directed “Thor: Ragnarok” from a screenplay by Eric Pearson and the writing team of Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost. It stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo, and Anthony Hopkins.
