“Pretty Little Liars” Spinoff on the Way, Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish to Star

Parrish in“Pretty Little Liars

We haven’t seen the last of Alison Dilaurentis and Mona Vanderwaal just yet. The reformed Rosewood mean girls are leading an expansion of the “Pretty Little Liars” universe. According to Deadline, Freeform has given a pilot order to “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists,” a spinoff of the network’s flagship series. Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish will reprise their respective roles as Alison and Mona.

Based on the book series by “Pll” author Sara Shepard, “The Perfectionists” is set in the seemingly-perfect town of Beacon Heights, home to a top-tier college and overachieving residents. “But nothing in Beacon Heights is as it appears to be,” the source hints. “The stress of needing to be perfect leads to the town’s first murder. Behind every Perfectionist is a secret, a lie, and a needed alibi.”

The project hails from the same team that brought “Pll” to the small screen: writer/executive producer I. Marlene King, Alloy Entertainment, and Warner Horizon Scripted Television. King penned the pilot and serves as executive producer alongside Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo.

Pll” ran on Freeform/ABC Family from 2010 to 2017. The hugely popular teen drama followed a group of best friends targeted by a mysterious bully.

“‘Pretty Little Liars’ was a cultural phenomenon so it’s no wonder fans wanted more,” said Karey Burke, Evp, programming and development, Freeform. “We can’t wait to continue Marlene King’s rich and revolutionary storytelling with a new crop of leading ladies from Beacon Heights who will hold just as many secrets and lies as Rosewood did.”

“I’m beyond excited to continue my collaboration with Sara Shepard, Alloy, Freeform, and Warner Horizon,” added King. “I can’t wait to introduce our fans — and Sasha and Janel — to a new world of thrills and chills in Beacon Heights.”

Pll” previously spawned spinoff “Ravenswood.” The supernatural series debuted on Freeform in 2013 and was cancelled after one season.

King co-created Freeform’s “Famous in Love” with Rebecca Serle, the author behind the books that inspired the show. The Bella Thorne-starrer centers on an average college student whose life changes overnight when she’s cast to star in a Hollywood blockbuster. The final episode of the show’s freshman season aired in June. A second season of the soapy drama has been confirmed, but a premiere date hasn’t been announced just yet.

Pretty Little Liars” Spinoff on the Way, Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish to Star was originally published in Women and Hollywood on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.
