‘Drunk History’: Derek Waters Previews Season 5 and Acknowledges the Insanity of Getting Oscar-Winning Guest Stars
Ten years after the invention of the “Drunk History” format, comedian Derek Waters is reconsidering how to describe the performers who get wasted, then narrate their take on a pivotal moment in history. “I want to start calling them ‘storytellers,'” he said. “It sounds more important. I think ‘narrator’ sounds like a voiceover actor.”

Indeed, the term “narrator” doesn’t quite do justice to what intoxicated celebrities bring to the series, which returned to television Tuesday night after nearly 13 months off the air.

Tuesday’s “Drunk History Christmas Special” will be followed by the show’s full return on January 23. It’s been a long time since new “Drunk History” episodes premiered, something Waters (who co-created the show with Jeremy Konner) acknowledged. “If I was a fan, I’m thinking the show’s over,” he said. “‘I thought you were dead.’ But that’s better like that than people going,

The cast and crew have assembled to look back and celebrate the 15th anniversary while also sharing stories and secrets from the set. As the show became outrageously popular, more lawyers got involved and kids started to try and replicate the zany stunts that the Jackass crew pulled off, which led to MTV placing restrictions on the show. At the height of the success, the crew decided to call it quits. The cast and crew including Spike Jonze, Jeff Tremaine, Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Chris Pontius, Steve-o, Wee Man, Ehren McGhehey, and Dave England spoke to Vice

Paramount First Looks: Garland’s ‘Annihilation,’ Payne’s ‘Downsizing,’ and Bay’s ‘Transformers’
Paramount is going through an awkward moment. Looking back, the studio’s CinemaCon presentation could only highlight 18 Oscar nominations; looking forward, the release slate is skimpy and Nickelodeon division’s is woeful, anchored by “SpongeBob SquarePants” and designed to make the studio look like they have exploitable IP.

That said, change is coming: Genial ex-Fox chairman Jim Gianopulos replaces outgoing 12-year veteran Brad Grey. One production candidate, Scott Stuber, skipped to Netflix, while Oscar producer Michael DeLuca kept his lucrative deal at Universal.

The studio does have two franchises it can still exploit. “Mi 6: Mission Impossible” starts shooting April 8 in London, India, Paris, and New Zealand, for
