'Roman J. Israel, Esq' Review: 'Great' Denzel Washington Breaks New Ground

'Roman J. Israel, Esq' Review: 'Great' Denzel Washington Breaks New Ground
Whatever faults you find in Roman J. Israel, Esq as a movie – it tends to meander – there is no disputing the start-to-finish excellence of Denzel Washington in the title role. You may think you know Washington as an actor, but you've never seen him like this. He is riveting as Roman J. Israel, Esq. – he likes the formality of the name – a Los Angeles-based lawyer whose ideals (and three-inch Afro) are stuck in the social-activist 1960s that formed him. A silent partner in a law firm specializing in pro bono cases,

Tough Mother and Rookies Make Up Supporting Actress Oscar Race

Tough Mother and Rookies Make Up Supporting Actress Oscar Race
Motherhood is a common theme for supporting actresses this year, from Emmy winners Laurie Metcalf and Allison Janney parenting lead actress potentials Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie in “Lady Bird” and “I, Tonya,” respectively. Then there’s Mary J. Blige’s tough matriarch in “Mudbound,” a commanding performance by the singer. Matriarch Catherine Keener is not to be trusted in “Get Out” while Holly Hunter is loving parent to a sick daughter in “The Big Sick.” And there’s a mother of a different kind with Melissa Leo in “Novitiate,” playing a Mother Reverend grappling with change. Other potential nominees include previous winner Octavia Spencer, standing out in the strong ensemble of “The Shape of Water,” previous nominee Kristen Scott Thomas bringing grace to the wife of Winston Churchill in “Darkest Hour,” and newcomer Hong Chau, stealing scenes as a political activist in “Downsizing.” Buzz is also high on Lesley Manville, though “[link

Denzel Washington crusades for justice in “Roman J. Israel, Esq.”

When you’re as big a star as Denzel Washington is, you pretty much have your pick of the litter, project wise. As such, when a curveball is thrown by the actor, it’s worth noting. This week, Washington tackles something very different with Roman J. Israel, Esq. The film itself struggles, but Washington will be the focus. In fact, it wouldn’t be a surprise at all if Oscar decides that it’s worth yet another Best Actor nomination for the man. That will be the main curiosity here, as Washington always finds himself in contention, especially when it’s a showcase for his acting like this one seeks to be. This movie combines elements of a character study with elements of a legal thriller. In short, it follows title character Roman J. Israel (Washington) as he attempts to crusade for what’s right. A relic of the past to most,

What Is Seraphina Doing in Fantastic Beasts 2?

What Is Seraphina Doing in Fantastic Beasts 2?
Director David Yates, who arguably knows the Harry Potter universe better than anyone, save for J.K. Rowling, is currently filming Fantastic Beasts 2. The movie serves as a follow-up to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and looks to change things up a bit. While the first movie takes place in New York City, it looks like the sequel will mostly take place in Paris, France, according to star Carmen Ejogo, who reprises her role as Seraphina.

The actress is currently promoting her new movie, Roman J. Israel, Esq. During a recent interview, she was asked about the upcoming Fantastic Beasts sequel. While she's going to reprise her role as the President of the American Wizard Association, she reveals that she won't have a prominent role in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2. According to her, that has to do with the fact that the movie primarily takes place in Paris.

Fantastic Beasts 2 Will Largely Take Place In Paris; Carmen Ejogo Teases Seraphina’s Return

With New York City still reeling from the events of the first film, Carmen Ejogo (Seraphina) has confirmed to Collider that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 will largely take place in Paris.

As acting President of the American Wizard Association, Ejogo stressed that her on-screen character won’t be all that involved in the David Yates sequel, which is somewhat disappointing when you consider that Seraphina really brought a sense of drama to the otherwise whimsical Harry Potter spinoff.

Still, with a slew of sequels cramming up the pipeline – Warner has reportedly carved out enough room so that Fantastic Beasts can grow into a five-film franchise – there will be plenty of opportunities to explore Seraphina in the future.

Here’s confirmation of that Parisian setting, courtesy of Collider:

Well in this one – maybe not so [prominent a role], but Seraphina is the President of the American Wizard Association so whenever we return to the Us,

‘The Girlfriend Experience’ Actresses and Creators on Making Their Sex Scenes Safe, but ‘Luxurious’ and ‘Liberating’ Too
Ask the nearest critic what “The Girlfriend Experience” is about and you’ll likely get a handful of different answers: power, money, sex, America, human nature, control.

But for the people involved in making the half-hour Starz drama about the world of high-end escorts, much of the show revolves around comfort.

Season 2 of “The Girlfriend Experience” follows a pair of storylines, each written and directed by one of the show’s two co-creators, Amy Seimetz and Lodge Kerrigan. Kerrigan’s half follows two women’s romance set in the middle of a midterm election backroom battle in D.C., while Seimetz’s tracks one woman’s unconventional revenge story living under witness protection in New Mexico.

Co-creator Lodge Kerrigan made sure there was an understanding between actress and director that started at the very beginning of the casting process. He met with both of the show’s lead performers, Anna Friel and Louisa Krause,
