Gringo

He might have a background in back breaking stunt man work (more than two decades worth), but in our books, this Aussie’s true vocation should be filmmaking as a full time gig. Nash Edgerton broke out big in our books well before his feature length film The Square (our interview with him); it’s his short films with the Blue-Tongue films collective in Spider (2007) and Bear (2011) that impressive, sharp, witty and perfectly tuned. Production on Gringo began in March of 2016 with a rather impressive name cast.

Starring his brother Joel Edgerton, this shuffles the deck David Oyelowo, Amanda Seyfried, Charlize Theron, Yul Vazquez, Thandie Newton, and Sharlto Copley, this pits a mild-mannered American businessman Harold Soyinka (David Oyelowo) against the elements. Crossing the line from citizen to criminal, Harold tangles with duplicitous business partners, Mexican drug lords, international mercenaries, and the DEA. Hopefully Edgerton’s knack for great timing,

What We Want to See in ‘Bright 2’: More Mythology, Less Fairy-Bashing

Netflix's Bright is not a good movie, but it is a popular one and, against all odds, a profitable one. How do we know? Because despite Netflix's apparently bottomless pit of money, even they aren't likely to drop another $100+ million on a gamble that didn't pay off. Case in point, the news that a sequel to Bright is in the works with Will Smith and Joel Edgerton expected to return for David Ayer as writer and director. (Notice we didn't mention the idea's original architect Max Landis, whose involvement in the sequel, if …

Jennifer Lawrence Transforms into a Deadly Assassin in New Trailer Red Sparrow

20th Century Fox has released an intense full trailer for Jennifer Lawrence's upcoming Russian assassin spy thriller Red Sparrow. The new trailer is loaded with new footage, some of which shows some of the intense training that her character has to go through in the process of being transformed into a deadly killing machine. It also offers some new insight into the story.

A lot of people are talking about how much this movie reminds them of Black Widow's origin story. It's definitely not hard to see the similarities. We may not be getting a Black Widow film from Marvel anytime soon, but we are getting this and I think it looks really good. I've always enjoyed spy thrillers and I can't wait to check this one out.

The film is based on the book by Jason Matthews and here's the synopsis:

Dominika Egorova is many things. A

Trailer Watch: Jennifer Lawrence Is a Master of Deception in “Red Sparrow”

“Red Sparrow”

Jennifer Lawrence finds herself being used as a weapon in a global struggle for power in a new trailer for “Red Sparrow.” The Oscar winner plays Dominika, a Russian ballerina who suffers a career-ending injury and is manipulated into becoming a recruit for a secret intelligence service. She’s given a choice: she can join the Sparrow School — where she’ll be taught to use her body and mind as weapons — or die. Not much of a choice, especially when you realize that becoming a Sparrow is predicated on losing her identity.

“When we are finished with you the person you were will no longer exist,” Dominika and the other recruits are told by a trainer (Charlotte Rampling). They “must learn to push [themselves] beyond all limitation,” and are forced to endure torture.

Dominka excels as a Sparrow, but she doesn’t seem to embrace her new role as

That’s followed by her committing multiple murders in several disguises. She also begins a relationship with a CIA agent played by Joel Edgerton, who tries to convince her to become a double agent. “You belong to them. They’ll never let you go,” he warns her. “I’ll find a way,

Tensions Run High in the New Trailer for Red Sparrow

  • Cinelinx
20th Century Fox has released a new trailer and poster (pictured) for Jennifer Lawrence's spy film, Red Sparrow, giving us some much needed context for the femme fatale film.

A few months ago (last year), we got our first look at Jennifer Lawrence as a Russian spy in Francis Lawrence's Red Sparrow.  What we saw was a series of scenes that told the story of a secret program of spies/assassins called Sparrows of which Lawrence is a part of.  However, that's not the whole story.  Today, 20th Century Fox shows us Lawrence's side of the story in the brutal new trailer for Red Sparrow.

Dominika Egorova is many things. A devoted daughter determined to protect her mother at all costs. A prima ballerina whose ferocity has pushed her body and mind to the absolute limit. A master of seductive and manipulative combat. When she suffers a career-ending injury,

The movie looks far more brutal than I previously expected, and I like the look Francis Lawrence is going for. That being said, I’m curious to see …

“One of the things that drew me into the story, is that it really is a personal story for a character, which I think is pretty rare in terms of the spy genre,” Lawrence tells IGN. “They tend to be much more political, or tend to be much more, kind of, plot-driven, and less personal and personal dilemma driven.
